What If?: Thief and Dragonhunter Traps
Even though the question doesn’t really makes sense, I’ll answer. All thieves would play perma stealth Trapper builds. Probably condi based and annoy everyone in pvp to a massive degree. It would be broken af and probably only fun for a day because of immidiate nerf.
Condi based for power traps? You aint makin any sense.
However, I dont think the dh traps fit thief even remotely. Big, flashy aoe effects.
But if our current traps would simply work with some more direct damage and maybe a little better cc than a 3 sec knockdown that gets broken right away…who knows.
Yeah, I don’t believe perma-stealth would be possible with the direct damage of Dragonhunter traps. One could lay the trap from Stealth, but that isn’t much different than laying one without Stealth… seeing that the trap is invisible until triggered. And Trapper runes would go to waste with the self-Revealing nature of the traps.
Indeed, flashy graphics may not be too Thief-like, but the effects and capabilities of the traps could work. Traps that heal the Thief. Traps that pack a punch if not avoided. Traps that pull targets into them. Traps that do not allow targets to run away.
Seeing a lone Thief sitting on a point would give one hesitation whether they should actually engage or not… unlike now.
As it stands now, our traps are little more effective than this Bang Gun… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZV8LhhxP5s
Personally, I would be willing to replace my Assassin’s Signet with Test of Faith/Procession of Blades or Basilisk Venom with Dragon’s Maw ;-)
I’d love to play a trapper build that’s worth the slots, the issue is when HoT was released there was no balance between utility skills across the game. While not every utility skill should always be useful for a given scenario, there are generally a set amount used in different game modes and everything else becomes useless.
The other issue is that DH traps > thief/ranger traps due to CD difference and no secondary bonuses. The same goes for countless other utility skills that came along with HoT. While I don’t expect a serious patch focusing on balance, I think it should be a serious consideration of theirs by time, or just before, they release the next expansion.
