Doing what I can for DB during EU primetime
(edited by Eviator.9746)
I’d like to know so I can learn first hand how it works and thus how to counter it. Often utilizes mug, cloak and dagger, and backstabs, finishing off with heartseekers. I’m guessing berserker’s gear, D/D, hide in shadows, and basalisk venom. What are the runes, sigils, the other utility, traits, and the other weapon set?

i bookmarked this page in case i wanted to make one

i haven’t tested any of the post, just bookmarked it for reference. it’s d/p though, not d/d
you dont get fight able permastealth ie a gc attacking you while completely stealthed thats just what people like to whine about, if you mean the “kittenurnevatakethissupplypointlewl” build then its just D/P hsing thru smoke field and using ur stealth moves when u need to
Any build can have stealth
I guess I’m really talking about the “downedbeforeIcouldseehim” burst build with basalisk venom. The one where the thief burns through all his initiative trying to down you before culling zones him in, and one or two dodges is enough to negate the entire attack, but only if you know it’s coming.
I’ll change my topic title accordingly.

25 DA (or 30)
30 CS
15 TR (or 10)
Non-optional traits:
Mug, Thrill of the Crime.
Everything else is your personal preference.
Enjoy the gimmick for awhile and then build your thief into something useful. LOL.

Go full Beserker in everything. If you want a little more health put Beryl Orbs in armor but everything needs to be zerker.

I notice there are PvP Jewels in that build. Are you able to use them outside of PvP?
So I tried it out and have learned some things. First it’s a very specialized build. It’s good for picking off unwary stragglers, but that’s about it. Outside of that I found myself stealthing away for safety often, and I certainly died more than I usually do in WvW if I over-extended.
It got me thinking “So what?” It’s definitely a troll build designed to enrage a handful of individuals, but it’s not really enough to turn the tide of a battle unless you get a bunch of thieves doing it, which is true of any profession. So other than the perma-stealth culling, you can’t cap my supply camp issue, I don’t see what the hubbub is all about, at least in WvW. The build is good at what it’s desgined for, and no other profession can pull it off in similar style, but I don’t see it as game-breaking in the grand scheme of things. Is it game-breaking in sPvP, tPvP?
The ultimate counter to these builds is to slot a stun breaker and run over 3k armor rating and 16k+ hp. Will prevent them from being capable of bursting you down so long as you are aware of surroundings.
Actually I found that most WvW Backstabbers go with at least a few points into Shadow Arts for extended Stealth duration and possibly other beneficial side-effects.
I assume something like 15/30/15/0/10 is actually far more common than the “pure” glass cannon. I’ve certainly seen Last Refuge procc a lot when going after glass-cannon WvW Thieves.
