What makes the Thief the most fun to play?
Why Thief is the most fun
0. D/D. A Zerg passes by, takes you by surprise, you got 1/4 of your hp left, but you Cloak and Dagger your way out of the mess, 1 by 1, slowly but surely.
1 . Outnumbered situations : when you know you are about to die, but Improvisation (a Deadly Arts GM) just saves the day.
2. Finishers in Stealth… a beautiful thing.
3. Shadow Escape to the level above… ( Downed Skill #2). worthy of lols.
4. Rallying from Shadow Refuge, while your ennemies are on a manhunt. #MetalGearSolid
5. the Jukeception = S/D – with Infiltrator’s Signet and Shadowstep
6. When that well timed Withdraw let you evades about 50 things that would have sent you dead… without a downed state lol.
7. a well timed Headshot to prevent a heal and a smooth Round about+ Withdraw it’s action movie like. ( still have a very hard time pulling this off.)
8. Playing in WvW with other thieves, Roaming. When your boy’s Shadow Refuge saves your noob kitten .
9. Emergency Nurse sessions. Ressing somebody in the middle of a huge mess, especially when you 7 seconds of stealth left.
10. this one is definitely nothing to be proud of but when a D/D celestial ele tries to kill you, but you barely make it out.
I swear this profession is the best

No, you have every reason to be proud.

I only play it in PvE (a few pug dungeons / day) but I like the gameplay / fluidity.
It’s pretty straight forward and easy to find a party (unlike with ranger/necro).
I like thief cause ppl afraid of it xD they see thief in wvw they say “A THIEF becareful!”
initiative and just steal in general
Steal doesn’t get a lot of love from a lot of people, but I really like the way it instantly flows in to attack patterns. The other class mechanics seems like a thing that they have in addition to their skills, but steal really feels like this cohesive thing that is part of the skills because of the way to teleports and applies whatever trait’s you’ve got on, but doesn’t require precasting or other recource building.
The stolen items are fun as well, especially with improvisation, and learning what they do and how to use them was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the thief in both pvP and PvE, it’s like a little secret lexicon of knowledge that you have to build up and it can change the way you approach some fights. So yeah, init and steal feel more peanut butter and jelly than the other class mechanics I think, and I prefer having a resource to manage rather than having everything dictated by cooldowns.
I was considering rolling a support ele or guardian for my non-thief play until I played around with revnant and I like the revnant for the same reason, it’s got a resource to manage rather than just plain telling me “no you can’t do that for practically forever” with lengthy cooldowns like other classes.

Fast Paced Gameplay that requires you to be fast on the controls. Being in control of my skills and using the proper skills per situation and breaking down my opponents defenses to kill them.

The one time I really agree with you ;)
I agree that Initiative points are fun and probably what makes this Thief the one class that best projects what my brain is doing while I’m playing in real time.
NSP
1) the fluidity of the gameplay.
1.1) the abillity to shadowstep as in gw1 but in even better.
1.2) try hard sword/dagger even if it is not competitive.
2) the feeling to be the one to turn the tide when +1 or interrupt a stomp & rez
3) the high learning curve and the feeling ofr accomplishment when you succed a good move.
4) this moment when this question pops into your head before every duels: will I be able to fight more than 10 sec without fleeing or dying?
5) beeing part of a community that is crying, begging, bleeding, complaining, whinning about thief, but is still playing it nevertheless because we love it.

shadowsteps….. im addicted to shadowsteps >_>
Bedroom Knights. [Sock]
Sea of Sorrows
For me it was two fold. The first is knifes edge style gameplay. Thieves are not allowed many mistakes in a fight and so fights feel more intense. I also enjoyed the ability to roam freely far from a waypoint since avoiding mobs or escaping a significantly out numbered situation was possible.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
The mobility is addicting. Other classes just feel so slow without teleports.
Also, someone already talked about that, but Steal, especially when traited fully, is probably the most rewarding ability to land in this game. It does so many things for you and doesn’t interrupt your flow, it speed it up.
Nooctae ( Thief ) / Encelya ( Engineer ) / Jane Crimson ( Elementalist ) / Kowywr ( Revenant )
Europe, Vizunah.
I played Mesmer for 30 levels at release. Couldn’t mesh the VO with the actual character so I rerolled a thief.
By level 4 I knew I found it.
1) mobility and initiative. I’m fine with cooldowns, but the ability to toss two dancing daggers, or headshot a dp thief in black powder a few times? Great feeling.
2) mentioned but shadow refuge ressing from down with 1-15 people swinging around for you.
3) cool factor.
4) the flow of everything. (Misc. Teleport)>cnd>bs, 3k range engages. Triangle porting stomps. Makes you feel like you’re awesome and you have style all at the same time.
