What to pair staff with weapon wise ?
Shortbow. The only weapon worth to use after devs destroyed every other choice.
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!
Choose a weapon slot, apply shortbow, promptly weld it into place, and never look back.
I am might main D/D – Staff. I saw a WvW video of it where the player was really smooth, and there is a good amount of synergy between the two.
S/D – Staff doe I tried that in the beta and the cohesion between the two were not as nice. Actually, there wasn’t any cohesion.
Thief – Raiden Hayabusa
Thief – Gouki Kurokawa
I am going double pistols and shortbow. Eles can keep the staff.
Crystal Desert
Nothing, staff is terrible
No matter what weapon set you chose add a shortbow.
At this point it would be better if they just put shortbow’s #5 as our F3 skill so that we weren’t forced to use shortbow for 100% of the game’s content.
Shortbow /15char
Well we can get longbow as a new elite.
1- shadow shot #2 – (copy inf arrow description)
2- infiltrators pretend arrow – use a plastic arrow to(copy inf arrow description)
3- shadow’s step -(copy inf arrow description)
4- stepping shadows -(copy inf arrow description)
5- quick retreat – use an arrow to cause 100% hp damage to yourself, granting loot bags to everyone in a 3600 unit radius.
New utilities – " shouts "
“I can’t do anything!” – yell about being useless and instantly take the farthest waypoint from your target at no cost.
“Lost cause” – shout about balance, shadowstepping you and all thieves on the map to lions arch if in pve, to spawn in spvp, and to Garrison in wvw.
Elite: “no quarter” – that trait in CS? Yeah. Same thing. Just gives it to your opponents.
Shortbow worked really well with Staff for me. However, I am gonna be trying out S/D+Staff next BWE. I came up with an Acrobatics/Trickery/Daredevil build using Assassin’s Reward which combined with D/D’s heal on evade minor trait should provide some pretty nice sustained healing.
The idea is that I can use Staff offensively and for mobility while S/D I can use defensively. It sounds pretty good on paper at the moment but we’ll see how it performs in the next BWE.

I actually thought he was pretty terrible. :P
jk lol But to answer OP’s question I’m gonna run D/D Staff probably. Most definitely in WvW, might not work as well in PvP but I’m gonna theorycraft because you never know. D/D Staff is surprisingly pretty synergetic, because they complement each other.
If I don’t run D/D staff in PvP I’ll probably run S/D Staff, because that’s really good as well.

Lol Rito hire this man

Port to garri is OP doe and makes thieves useful. Sorry, but that use just doesn’t fit thematically and goes against purity of thief.
Elite: “no quarter” – that trait in CS? Yeah. Same thing. Just gives it to your opponents.
Oh, I understand it now! There’s a reason it’s a Thief trait!
Thieves are supposed to give their enemies no quarter! Instead, Thieves were given no quarter by the devs! Well played, sirs, well played! :’-(
Nothing, staff is terrible
Only realistic answer so far.
Staff was such an awful choice over rifle for our specialization because it was exactly what we didn’t need. we lost the opportunity for a new weapon to fill a role we have no access to (good single target ranged damage), and instead we got a terrible weapon that overlaps with our current capabilities but isn’t worth using because Staff is essentially what would happen if you took the worst of s/d and the worst of shortbow and put them together.
as it stands, s/d completely overshadows staff in almost every way imaginable. unless they majorly overhaul staff, it’ll be the next p/p.
You kind of can’t, since it’s a 2-handed weapon. The other slot is permanently used by SB.
