Defektive's "New Meta": New Patch? New Build.
How about Axe off-hand instead for burning bolts?
https://twitter.com/TalathionEQ2
There’s a trait missing in Defense, master tier… Which I’m guessing you picked Cleansing Ire. This build is quite similar to what i’ve been playing arround with lately, except for a few details… Mainly in utility skills (i was leaning towards berserker), and also I’ve been trying out runes of lyssa (remove all conditions when you use an elite).
I’ll give your version a try once i get home.
I love this build! I run a similar build although I play a more Condition Damage focused build instead.

Updated with Cleansing Ire.

It still doesn’t do enough damage. The concept you’re referring to is so bad.
Lets think this through.
I’m going to lay down a strong AoE burn field.
Then get in the middle of it where presumably my enemies are.
And then spin in circles and hope no one touches me.
While also doing sub-par DPS.
Edit:
If it did more damage or had projectile reflect or something like that, then it would be viable for more things than longbow.
(edited by Defektive.7283)
The problem is your using a longbow and the longbow follows a trend similar to the other classes. The reliability is just too high to foster an interactive game. Warrior has better not join the ranks of the other classes, then this is truly a casual game.

Let’s be honest. We aren’t doing great in tPvP. Most of it is because the game right now revolves around less single target, more AoE.
The sooner we come to that conclusion, the faster we can create builds and concepts designed to take advantage of it.
Otherwise we’re bringing a hammer to a blind fight. Which hasn’t worked out for us so far.
You should run lyssa runes and ditch valk gem.
You should run lyssa runes and ditch valk gem.
To much of a DPS decrease and you lose -% condi duration.
Lyssa isn’t great right now due to the influx of necros, one corrupt boon and it’s GG.
For the record however, I have tried the following:
Lyssa
Scholar
Melandru
Ranger
Forgive me for not watching the whole vid, can’t at the moment, but does cleansing ire also activate for each pulse of the burning fire field? That would be awesome indeed, and have some great implications for wvw. Would be OP though…

Negative it does not (I wish), but if you’re having a good fight you should be able to cast 2 or 3 adren bars worth of F1’s every 8 seconds. It’s a good deal of condi cleanse.
getting there to one day maybe be viable, but its still not on par with other professions. I’ve tried cleansing ire I think it probably works the best with your use of it longbow, becasue the aoe field increase your chances you will hit something. But I think the trait doesn’t work how it should work. Sword is the new axe its probably the best thing that we got in that update.

Got a question, why do you use runes of hoelberk? and wait, the AoE flame blast… stays, and gives burning?
Got a question, why do you use runes of hoelberk? and wait, the AoE flame blast… stays, and gives burning?
\
Combustive Shot (F1) stays for i believe 6 seconds and deals damage on pulse that scales with power…and it burns people for a second each pulse too i think.
Not to mention that these pulses can crit, and trigger another flame blast sigil proc
And the hoelbrak has more power + offensive stats to it, while still having a bit of the melandru effect of condition removal

Got a question, why do you use runes of hoelberk? and wait, the AoE flame blast… stays, and gives burning?
Ok so I’ll kind of explain more:
Longbow benefits more from +Power and +Crit Damage than it does +Condition Damage.
Longbow F1 at 3/3 Adren, lasts 8 seconds, it’s cooldown is 8 seconds as well.
Each second it ticks for 1 attack of Burn, and 1 Attack of ‘Ignite’
-Burn is standard condi damage, expect 400-500 dmg tick.
-Ignite is affected by Power and Crit Damage. Expect around 1k crits.
Factor in 30pts in Percision – Crits give you Adren. And suddenly a Longbow F1 pays for itself in 3-4 seconds of being on the field, giving you full adren again. Allowing you to place it immediately afterwards.
Hoelberk:
I don’t care about the +Might as much as I care about the +Power and -20% Condition Duration.
That’s duration applied to YOU, as in, a 1second burning on you lasts .8 seconds.
When playing with Scholar I found that I lacked enough condition mitigation.
When playing with Lyssa I found I was to easily punished for gaining every boon (necros slapped me around).
If i went Melandru then my damage felt underpowered.
Hoelberk hit that nice sweet spot right in the middle, maintaining my damage and providing more condition mitigation.
I see, thanks for explaining I am currently thinking on another build I have in mind, so it is good to know that ignite is based on power and crit damage.
If you’re serious about bow dps, you need the 1200 bow trait to convert your basic shots into 100% finishers ( that you do, of course, thru combushot. Don’t forget you can also drop combushot on yourself and keep the firepewpews going while kiting classes do their dance.
With the setup you’re going for, maybe try 0/25/20/10/15 dropping boonhate+furious but gaining stronger bowstrings and keeping bleed damage bonus and fast hands for those quick switches.
Beware, for Commander Kaga farms j00, ktrainer!

I have been using your exact setup of weapons with a condition focused build. It works fairly well now with the sword buffs/longbow buffs.

hey defektive i have a question, i see that most of the “famous” warriors like to use sword main hand, but i just cant figure out where is the strenght of the weapon…
is it just a control weapon? because i dont see any dmg output, i almost always prefer axe in every situation

Does stronger bowstrings still have the autos do 10% less damage? Didn’t catch that one in the update.
If I read correctly you have Sigil of Fire and Sigil of Energy in one weapon-set. One of those sigils won’t proc. because they have both an ICD in its description. Mabye I missed a secret patch. . . But in my knowledge this won’t work hand in hand.
Edit: (Source: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil)
""All sigils that have a cooldown share the same cooldown timer; while the timer is active, no other sigil with a cooldown can trigger. For example, if you are using a Sigil of Fire (flame burst on critical) and a Sigil of Battle (might stacks on swap), you will have to wait after swapping weapons (Sigil of Battle activated) before the flame burst can trigger on critical.
Sigils will enter cooldown even if you do not gain any benefit. For example, a Sigil of Purity will trigger and enter the 10s cooldown even when the wearer has no conditions.
All things equal, the mainhand cooldown sigil will trigger before the offhand cooldown sigil.""
So basically when you swap to sword/shield you have to wait 9 seconds before the flame-blast can trigger. In my opinion there are better sigil options out there instead of this one.

Sigil of Energy isn’t a proc and, therefore, doesn’t follow the same rules.
The Longbow is the kitten of legends right now. It has been for some time, actually. The game revolves around people throwing random AoE crap around and then dodging and dancing, going invulnerable and invisible every 3 seconds. We can’t go invulnerable or invisible, but we can throw our own AoE crap, so that tumbling Thief or teleporting cloning Mesmer will still get their feet burned and we won’t be running around, guessing where they are, swathing at empty space, missing because of blinds and blocks.
This build also has a condition damage element, allowing to better combat bunkers and other Protection stackers, as well as the new Weakness.
Besides, this build has its hilarious moments too. I fought a Necro, who prepared to set up show with wells and marks to do his usual anti-Warrior business, but instead got Pin Down+Arcing Shot for 1/3 of his health and it all was downhill for the poor kitten from there. A lot of people actually aren’t ready to face a Warrior like that. For once, the Warrior class can actually make people play by his own rules, forcing enemies to retreat or suffer great punishment.
So yeah, try it, folks. The Longbow is quite nice.
sounds good to me. ill rebuild your spec for my wvw purpose

Sigil of Energy is for sure a proc. It procs on weapon-switch and behaves like sigil of Battle (see eg from GW2-Wiki above).

LoL, somehow in GW2 you cant find sigil “on proc”.
FYI there is 5 type of sigils:
1) Passive efect,
2) Stack on Kill,
3) Effect on critical,
4) Effect on weapon swap,
5) Effect on kill.
And now?
I just gonna test this on my own though.

Read link on reddit. You dont need to test, according to reddit type 3 and 4 do share cooldowns.

Just tested to be 100% sure, IT DOES SHARE CD like it’s supposed to…
Why are you taking sword instead of axe? Considering that you are still in a heavy power build the axe burst is superior to the sword bleeds.
So you’re saying Cleansing Ire made us tPvP viable? Because aside from that trait, this build was already capable of existing.
Forgive my ignorance, but if right now I was to create a warrior I would do something like this;

Can you explain to me what is wrong with it? From what I understand these are the advantages I see;
1.Dealing 20% damage when below 50% health.
2.Apply 1 second of immobilize every time you cripple a foe (every 8 seconds from Sword #2).
3.Opportunist – Always gaining fury for 10 seconds every time you immobilize someone (from triggering Leg Specialist trait; see point 2, or from F1 Flurry).
4. Cleansing Ire – Gain adrenaline when hit – remove a condition for every bar of adrenaline spent
5.Adrenaline refill – Signet of Fury + Signet of Rage + Furious trait (critical hits grant triple adrenaline) + Cleansing Ire.
Maybe even applying different runes and sigils for more boon removal or more boons.

Yes and no.
Before this patch, going 20 pts into defense while running longbow didnt make sense, there were choices that were stronger overall (Berserkers Power for example).
No one had an incentive to try it or to use it because the numbers showed that going into a more damage focused build resulted in better results.
In steps the patch
—————-
Longbow base range increased to 1000 (this is pretty solid so far).
Cleansing ire proccing every 8 seconds (yay Longbow F1).
Movement of Shield Mastery to adept trait.
The bottom two points indicated that going into Defense in order to gain 290 toughness (when using a Shield + 200 from the trait line) as well as 3 condi removal every 8 seconds (more if you use sword F1) could be a profitable endeavor.
Once you commit to 20 points in defense you have only one direction you can go, build a little more toughness so that you have more staying power (hey, you’re investing 20pts into it already right?). In comes Dolyak Signet, Valk jewel.
My base toughness with shield sits around 1500.
So while yes the build had the potential to exist before hand, there was no reason to try it, thus it never occurred. New patch however opened up some possibilities.

I’m not a fan of Leg Specialist anymore. It used to be my fave trait. The ‘randomness’ to it makes it unappealing to me. I try to stick to traits, weapons etc. that will perform on the spot as I require them to. There may be an instance where I need an immobolize but Leg Specialist is on CD. Moments like those give me a bad vibe.
Desperate Power is ok, I was testing it on patch day. I don’t like the concept of gaining more damage for being under a certain HP%. It forces me to save my heals so I gain that 20% but in reality, doing just that will probably cause me to lose the fight if I take a sudden burst.
Opportunist is good, synergizes well with Leg Spec.
I think without the +Crit damage from Discipline your damage may be sub par. And all you’re really gainign for that is an immob and more fury. But with Sig of Rage we already have Fury uptime near 100%. And longbow / Sword already provide Immobs. Not sure if the trade off is worth it.
Utilities are solid but I wouldn’t use Sig of Fury, you already have a ton of +crit chance and methods to gain adren.
Your build may be better suited for Hammer.
My 2c.

Meaning the old warrior mindset has forcibly been removed. I think this build shows the problem didn’t just propagate from the slightly lacking class design. It was also a combination of team comp and a groupthink community. So shame on us because, although, yes, I agree the devs have created some new synergies, those things hardly took us from 0 to hero… if anything, from Shyla Labeouf(Transformers kid) to Matt Damon, and I’m a huge Bourne fan.
(edited by Veritas.6071)
I think the trait movements and Cleansing Ire is allowing us to get more toughness and consistent Condi removal, these are two things we couldn’t have done in the previous patch.
I’m sure it was partly ignorance towards other concepts. But the trait changes did greatly enhance atleast my own confidence that there are more balanced but dangerous builds out there.
I’d love to see a great Mace build, but it’s unfortunately my worst weapon, it just feels so awkward to use (mainhand).
I’ve been playing the class from day 1, but I’m no warrior specialist so I usually lurk the forums for good advice/builds.
Do you think this build could translate into PvE? I’m not looking to excel at PvE using a PvP build, just to avoid having to respect for roaming PvP (Causal PvPer here) or to learn the playstile before joining sPvP matches. I’m very monotask (stay home mom) so I’d rather have one build going for playstile.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Yes and No, I’m no PvE machine so maybe that advice is best left to someone else.
Longbow damage could get pretty crazy in PvE, im sure in multi-mob fights it could compete if not do better than some zerker builds. But in a single target I’m unsure of the numbers.

Sweet merciful Omnissiah, the AoE size of the Longbow F1 is enormous now. Was it always that big, or has been for a while? I haven’t longbow’d in quite some time, and it seemed… normal before.

I’m very monotask (stay home mom) so I’d rather have one build going for playstile.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!Respect for stay at home moms.
Yes and No, I’m no PvE machine so maybe that advice is best left to someone else.
Longbow damage could get pretty crazy in PvE, im sure in multi-mob fights it could compete if not do better than some zerker builds. But in a single target I’m unsure of the numbers.
Teach your kids Excel and basic math, force them into theorycrafting.
Make a margarita and reap the rewards while simultaneously touting your childrens adept mathematics skill.
PS:
I hope my fiance doesn’t see this.
LOL
Thanks, Defektive! As soon as the kids grow a bit more (2 years old and 6 months old) I’ll get them into grinding/farming/theoricrafting me into awesomeness!
I’m going to take your build out there and see how it goes, temple zergs and events is all I’ve been doing lately, probably going to be better than my old GS build due to the AoE capability!
And get your fiance in gaming, we need more girls around

So, what armor are you guys using with this build? Straight up zerker or you’re going for Rampager/Carrion for more condition dmg?
I don’t recommend going Condition damage.
Honestly, with this much in arms you’ve already got some respectable condition damage, why not use it? Hence my suggestion for 1200 bow.
Beware, for Commander Kaga farms j00, ktrainer!

I see Warrior conditions as a side thing, not a primary thing. (reason: There’s wide spread condi cleanse against good players, putting all your eggs in that basket results in lower overall damage output.)
Based burst damage (straight up attacks using power and +crit) scale and land on targets for a much higher effect.
If I take 1200 Longbow, all Longbow base damage decreases. Sure I may gain an additional fire tick here and there, but is it worth it since I have an AoE fire field? not really.
200 Range increase for a nominal combo field proc doesn’t outweigh losing overall damage and having to go 10 points in vitality just to grab it. Traits are better spent elseware.

She doesn’t mind me gaming but the most she ever does is Angry Birds. But she’ll do that for hours. I’ll be picking up a PS4 when it comes out, hopefully she’ll enjoy Knack because ‘that looks cute!’.
I’m lucky enough, when we got a place together she ‘allowed’ me to have a man cave. Can’t rock the boat to hard!
Why are you taking sword instead of axe? Considering that you are still in a heavy power build the axe burst is superior to the sword bleeds.
If you’re serious about bow dps, you need the 1200 bow trait to convert your basic shots into 100% finishers ( that you do, of course, thru combushot.)
This build is not cased on condition damage, it’s based on AoE burst (longbow) and mobility (sword.)
If we are talking mobility wouldn’t the GS be a better fit then sword?
