Enough GS zerker Warriors
Have you extensively tested this or was it a theory you just put into practice?
I’m a little confused because my GS build is greater in all areas except for crit damage and power with perma fury that isn’t shown and this is for w3 not fractals.
Have you really infused every single ascended item with 5/5 though? That just seems like a crazy waste of money.

What does it mean by “effective”? Effective health and effective power? The numbers don’t seem to add up in that link.
is good at penitent , and shelter, and grenth
Whats the point of so much precision. Warriors can keep up a constant fury buff, so increasing vit and toughness over precision would help out alot more in the long run. Power should always be that high, so I agree with that at least.
HoD Commander
Warrior
In order to increase effective power, have you considered changing sigil to force instead of accuracy and move 10 points from discipline to strength (for axe mastery and +100 power and stick/move 3%) or tactics (for empowered, probably at least 6% damage with perma swiftness/might/fury and occasional stability/retaliation/aegis/regen/vigor/protection boons for +2% each with buffs from teammates).
tired of people preaching the same old full berserker 916 toughness builds, even in PvE so this is good to see.
I think his precision is fine where it is, the critical chance includes the trait heightened focus. I probably would like at least 21k HP in my build but that is just me, but for me my build is mostly built for PvP.
He probably could go 30 into strength, but I think he was looking more for the uptime on his signets and fast hands (at least in my case) is something I cannot imagine myself not having.
Although expensive, and provides slightly less DPS than ruby orbs, runes of divinity are a great way to round out a build imo, although probably not necessary for PvE

Yes and with major success, it revived the class for me, now I can do things I couldn’t before without Endure Pain.
It’s only possible since the introduction of Cavalier gear, before we didn’t really have a choice (Valkyrie sucks on Warrior).
You basically trade a little DPS (very little really, still hitting 10-11k evis, 14k killshot etc) for more than doubling your damage reduction.
Plus A/A healing is OP, on 1 mob you heal about 3k with WA on multiple ones you refill your health completely.
Let alone that most times your WA will be frenzied by Last Chance so it lasts 1.75s only while 100B isn’t affected by haste that triggers during the channel; same goes for other A/A attacks.
Admittedly, it takes some time to get geared for this.
Cavalier amulet is only from laurel/fractal I think, Cavalier earrings 42k karma each from Temple of Balthazar NPC, rings are Rurik/Adelbern rings from Fractals, as for the back I use ascended capacitator (1800 frac relics).
But it’s definitely a major step up from classic zerker.
I’m a little confused because my GS build is greater in all areas except for crit damage and power with perma fury that isn’t shown and this is for w3 not fractals.

So far I’m 3/5 with that, still working on it.
I’m about 10 power away from the build shown in the builder – but honestly versatile infusions aren’t really needed, 10 power is nothing on a char with 5500 effective power.
It’s just a min/max “ultimate” template.

I tried 30 str but it’s a DPS and Effective Power loss – even if you get the 10% crit dmg trait.
It’s probably because of Attack of Opportunity being a major DPS increase (let alone last stand / furious).
I agree with fast hands btw.
Once you go FH you can’t go back :p even H.Focus is great due to major crit increase.

Changing the trait “Mobile Strikes” on that build seems to drop the “effective power” by a fair number when using that calculator, which is a bit puzzling. I’m a bit unsure of how this is actually calculated?
Changing the trait “Mobile Strikes” on that build seems to drop the “effective power” by a fair number when using that calculator, which is a bit puzzling. I’m a bit unsure of how this is actually calculated?
Effective Power is calculated taking into account your crit rate and crit damage as well.
It’s your total power considering crits, non crits and crit dmg, much like Effective Health Points calc.
And since Heightened Focus adds 9% crit rate, if you dump it you’re getting a DPS loss.
HFocus equals to about 200 Precision worth of points, pretty much like 20 points into arms.
Changing Heightened Focus to Mobile Strikes on the 1st link seems to increase the effective power, because the calculator is adding an extra 13% to the “damage” stat with mobile strikes :/
What the Axe/Axe build doesn’t factor in on the builder, is the might stacks you build up with a greatsword. I have no idea what you have designed this build for but for myself I mostly play WvW, and Whirlwind with that trait can easily get me to 25 stacks of might which is an extra 875 power.
I’ve been avoiding using greatsword for a very long time because I simply don’t like it, but honestly it just feels more and more like you are just holding yourself back to not do :/ I finally gave in about 2 days ago, swapping my hammer/SwordShield for Rifle/GS full zerker and sadly finding it to actually be more useful than a balanced build … and it sucks

Outside CoF (which is easy and stationary), GS zerking isn’t really good let’s face it.
Most fights won’t be stationary, most fights won’t be just 180 degrees, most fights can’t be done safely with a measly 13% damage reduction.
You might do 5% more damage than the following build, but only in a perfect situation where all mobs sit in your cone all the time and you somehow never need to roll away.
In other situations you’re just losing DPS to this and have half the damage reduction/healing of this. This build has 5500 effective power which is extreme crazy damage, but 30% damage reduction instead of 13% and insane amounts of life stealing through lifesteal (WA can heal up to 15k health in 3 seconds) and more DPS than cookie-cutter GS due to continuous Evis spamming, adren coming back to full in a second plus 360 degree DPS that doesn’t lock you in place.
In high fractals such as colossus double seal you could slowly HB 2-3 mobs or kill the whole lot of 8 while regaining health from all the damage they’re doing and thus covering your team from such damage.
Vs bosses you have a lot more lasting power in melee due to lifesteal and damage reduction, therefore more DPS and more covering of your team.I converted to this and I’m not looking back to my old pure zerker.
The addition of Cavalier gear made full melee a lot more viable especially when combined with lifesteal stacking, it’s really not worth it anymore to go full zerker imo.Have fun.

He utilizes Greatsword/X while you utilize AA/X.
Now, I understand that the overall DPS of the Axe/Axe is greater than that of a Greatsword, but how do you make up for the loss of might?
That’s like 600 (random number, since 25 full stacks is 875 power but FGJ is used regardless and other sources of a bit of might). Does the axe’s superior DPS make up for that?
How far have you gone in Fractals? (Can you screenshot please?)
I want to know because I honestly like this build, but I want to make sure that it is, in fact, better than the GS before I choose to store my Eternity and redo all my gear.
I think by answering these questions, you will convince a LOT more people which will really help the warrior community to look past the GS as the only option.

Outside of CoF, my zerker warrior is still able to perform incredible feats. Not only do I provide the highest DPS in the game, but I bring 3 different versions of a Might buff to my team, provides team wide fury, provides a fire field for blast finishers, removes conditions of allies, and has even tanked bosses.
It’s fine that you don’t like GS zerker warriors, but don’t disregard the fact that zerker warriors are some of the highest and most efficient DPS in the game right now that still provides great group buffs.
Your opinion is probably skewed because you’ve ran into players who can’t manage to stop being tunnel vision, not because they are zerker warriors.
Also… why 50% more bleed over 33% chance to cause vulnerability…?
You’re target is always bleeding as it is.

I personally use a GS over Axe (I like ranged best lol…) but I must say, it seems that you are the one with skewed opinions. Axe/Axe has better DPS than GS.
Unless you meant burst damage instead of DPS.

No I played zerker GS to the death.
Simply put, dealing 5% more DPS in a situational stationary fight using the most boring skillset in the game and 13% damage reduction stopped being fun or interesting and I found a more effective setup.
GS full zerker is one setup.
There are other ways to play that are as or more effective, simple as that.
I made this for those who are tired or don’t like GS zerking boredom
There isn’t one build or setup that is best in every situation, this one has different purposes and goals than GS zerking, while still being a classic fully offensive megaDPS machine of death.

I think your build has a lot of potential. You could probably swap out the Crack shot trait for something more orientated towards damage as standard and swap in Crack Shot for fights that you need to range.
Axes would be a nice change of pace.

Grinded for Eternity just to put it away cause it may slightly be poorer in PvE? Not entirely sure how to respond to that.
On a side note I use my build for everything. Fractals and W3 alike and I can TELL when a subpar warrior joins the group in full berserker gear because he doesn’t know how to dodge, read fights and the fact that I have to pick him up off the ground so many times that I give up and just leave him there. Thanks man, Not many people enjoy my build so much since i try to stray away from common builds like HB frenzy/Shout/axe-shield. Healing surge/Balance stance/Bull rush/Signet of stamina/Signet of rage. I feel the give the most for me. Stun breaker + stability, Gap closer + CC, Endurance regen + Full condition clean, perma signet of rage, and Healing surge works great with adrenaline gain and hp.
Balance stance + signet of stamina = instant get out of the way + sword-shield for savage leap + shield block.
I feel all those utilities compliment each other well for both offensive and defensive.
I designed my build based on 30% crit chance from gear, 20% from fury, and 50% from when earthshaker hits since stun is applied before dmg which means you get 12% from berserkers power, 25% from hammer trait, and 10% from sigil of impact, and its a guaranteed crit = 5-7k crits on 5 targets + since they stunned, you can do some extra attacks that guarantee 100% crit chance. With 89% crit dmg, you hit like a truck, and with 20 in defense, and 400 or so toughness gain from trinkets = 32-34% dmg reduction. I chose the 70 to vit cause i already can hit 50% crit chance easy with fury+gear, that the extra 70 prec = 3.5% crit chance is less important to me than 700 hp which could mean life or death half the time i noticed in WvW when condition is ticking >.>
Only down side is blind/block/aegis/dodge really hurt hammer, but with this more tanky set up, I can sustain long enough to try and pull out all their escape mechanisms for the Earthshaker Burst + other attacks finish them off. Its very reliable in terms of dmg, cause you know you will crit with it, and That it will hit very hard.

Yeah, I find that’s one of the hardest challenge of finding a good build; making sure it is balanced. Most builds end up like this:
You excel in one area, but are completely vulnerable elsewhere. Yours seems to do a really, really good job of covering your rear end while providing exceptional damage and control. Love it.
Only down side is blind/block/aegis/dodge really hurt hammer, but with this more tanky set up, I can sustain long enough to try and pull out all their escape mechanisms for the Earthshaker Burst + other attacks finish them off. Yeah, unfortunately a hammer warrior’s tells are really obvious and generally follow a burst pattern for stuns. Everyone seems to run some form of stability as standard but your build would be nothing short of beautiful in a 5-10man group where you aren’t overly focused on with everyone paying attention to said tells.

Yea it really wrecks havoc in WvW, and in sPvP its great at controlling points while pushing heavy dps + CC. It doesnt shine too well in PvE, but I like more dynamic combat since im not looking to go nuts doing dungeons/fractals with this build. I found that using sword-shield as your starting set and reserving hammer for a surprise earthshaker is far easier to pull off than running around with the hammer as everyone is waiting for earthshaker when they see the hammer out. Sword-shield is far better dueling set to set up for the big dps from Hammer burst + CC chain. Sometimes i have fun and drop balance stance for Frenzy, and I have hit some crazy dps with Earthshaker, into 3-4 auto attacks + backbreaker + staggering blow for a good 25k+ dmg.

An excellent build for Hammer lovers, although the crazy E.Power is just vs stunned foes, against non-stunneds it would go down to 4.700 (which is not low but not 5500+ like mine or zerkers either).
Damage reduction makes up for it completely tho.
Most builds end up like this:
You excel in one area, but are completely vulnerable elsewhere.
That’s exactly my point!
Sacrifices are ok if they are worth it, i.e. a 50/50 trade.
But when it comes down to it a full Zerker only got a very little damage bonus over a Cavalier trinkets one, while having less than half its damage reduction.
It’s a bad trade really, but understandable because we didn’t have Cavalier gear before.
Now we do, and perhaps it’s a good idea to slowly shift toward a better min/maxed route.
Grinded for Eternity just to put it away cause it may slightly be poorer in PvE? Not entirely sure how to respond to that.

It has a bit more power, but a bit lacking in the healing/360 departments compared to Axe.
You’ll get the most out of damage but you won’t have the staying power of megahealing axes (unless you use Axe/Axe as your swap hehe), but as long as you keep mobile it should be no problem.

Red Falcon, do you have an answer or are you going to ignore again?
Axe + Axe with that life steal frequency DOES look promising. This build would’ve been better if ANET was on the right mindset with Whirling Axe though.

Agreed, but I think it could still be viable, but it is so expensive to try.
Red Falcon hasn’t responded to my post yet, so I’m still waiting.
Although… from past experiences, he has been prone to ignore anything that may go against what he believes.
This is my first encounter with him so let’s hope I’m wrong and he responds.

With Consumables 6.7k effective power , and 6.0k without. (when target is stunned, which is caused by earthshaker/shield bash)
When not stunned, effective power is 5k.
34% dmg reduction, and 20k hp.
60% boon duration means, perma signet of rageThis is my build currently.
This, is nearly identical to my “standard” build and built on the exact same principle. The only difference is I use knights armor/weapons and run 30 defense instead of 10 Tactics, built for the exact same purpose as well of the earthshaker smashes and 30% crit gear/20% fury/50% trait. Even the sigils are the same. I will try the swap to Zerker/Cavalier now it is available but need to get it first.
In the past 2 days I’ve started using GS instead of Sword/Shield though and moved 10 points from defense into the Greatsword trait. I’m still deciding on which I prefer, as the mobility is better but also more vulnerable (takes longer but goes further), but the might stacking from the GS is an added bonus and of course 100b/whirlwind on a stunned target with 100% crit chance. The GS provides a nice alternative for when the enemy gets stability too (really hurts the hammer damage)
For the fights I need to escape from, the Sword/Shield is better, for fights I can stay in I’d say the GS wins out – especially when someone goes to res a downed player … I wish this wasn’t the case though cos I just don’t enjoy the GS as much even if I find it more effective :/
RE: Axe/Axe. I’ve not used it much since the start of the game but I have occasionally run hammer+axe/axe, the lack of mobility is horrible and I find myself using the Axe more as my “main” weapon (same with the GS) but I did enjoy it. I would however never play it without omnomberry pie’s. To get maximum potential you really do need to adjust your build/gear for maximum precision.
What I find all my builds suffer of though is condition removal. I use signet of stamina and usually the -40% food, but due to the abundance of condi’s around in WvW it doesnt tend to be long before they are back on.

Wait… Daoshi, are you Red Falcon?
If you are, I’m asking you to compare the builds that I posted.
The guy that posted the build originally asked the same.
The GS seems to win out, and the GS can do so much more damage with higher stacks of might that the axe won’t reach.
How does dual axe make up for it?
I Love the lifesteal aspect, but what else makes it better?
Just curious because I"m really thinking of doing this build.
No… i’m not. -.-

I find it mildly funny when people try to push the lifesteal into making something viable. I’m just waiting for those foods to be adjusted and ruin every single situation in which they’re necessary.
Do people not realize that they are the only consumable, chance on crit effects in the game that do not have an internal cooldown?

Agreed that putting down the pros and cons of either sword-shield vs GS is tough, I think its more preference and place of usage.
GS wins out on dps versus sword-shield, But I love the escape/utility of Sword-Shield and I use Hammer mostly for the DPS. I had a fun time with this system of skills for a theorize opener and it works quite well if all lands
Bull Rush -> Hamstring(1 sec Immob) -> Shield Bash -> BackBreaker -> Staggering Blow -> Earthshaker.
You get 10 strikes of adrenaline from that combo prior to earthshaker (5 attacks + 5 from weapon swap) and earthshaker’s damage doesn’t change from different adrenaline levels. I felt it was similar to a hundred blade/frenzy/bull rush, but I love how awesome it looked =D, Could even add hammer shock between the staggering blow and earthshaker for the 1 sec immobilize and dps.
Anyways, Since the release of Cavalier Gear, I felt that zerk/cavalier was best combination for DPS warriors since Its so easy to get crit chance for warriors through fury and traits. The extra 400~ toughness is alot considering you lose only a small portion of precision and we stand in the front lines constantly. Combine that with 20 in defense, and its almost like having perma Protection on a naked zerk warrior which somehow is tankier than a fully armored zerk warrior with nothing in defense =P.

Sigh, well it seems that Red Falcon is once again shying away from explaining something that may be potentially damaging to his build.
That being said, does anyone run the build that he is suggesting here? (Dual Axe, Life-steal, etc.) If so, do you find that it is as good as he says it is?
How does it compare to your experience with a great sword?
Spending money to try out a good build? No problem, got plenty.
Spending money to try out some theorycrafted crap that isn’t used? Annoying.
Spending money to try out something that the creator may not even be doing? No.
He could just be asleep…..

this…
the same problem with some traits like arms number X (in one master trait you get cd reduction, might on every crit without icd ? it’s best trait in whole game)
I know what Heightened Focus does, but I was talking about changing Mobile Strikes into something else, neither of which actually boosts an offensive stat.

As I said in a perfect situation where mobs never move, never rupt, and can be all hit within a 180 degree cone, GS version gets a bit more DPS due to might stacked.
In all other situations Axe/Axe is going to unload more DPS.
There just isn’t a weapon that is just better in all situations, I choose Axe because it’s going to unload full DPS in a much broader variety of situations, plus eviscerate 11k dmg spam and full adren back, and because of lifestealing with WA.
I find it mildly funny when people try to push the lifesteal into making something viable. I’m just waiting for those foods to be adjusted and ruin every single situation in which they’re necessary.

Lifestealing is just the cherry on top of this build, not it’s fundament.
Also lifesteal food has been discussed to death and Anet decided not to nerf.
I just talked about Axe because I’m tired of seeing people using GS in EVERY freakin situation, even those where you can 360 degree kill 8 mobs with WA while absorbing all damage, but they choose to kill 3 with 100B and die.

What level Fractals have you achieved?
How do you make up for the loss of GS #3 and #5 as I find those skills invaluable in Fractals.
Would you say the lifesteal of the off-hand axe is better than the skills of a shield?
Sorry, last couple questions. Just want to make sure before I role this build as I find it a refreshing change.
What level Fractals have you achieved?
30++ on 2 chars so far (War and Thief).
My Guardian is still sitting on low fracts I think 18 or so.
How do you make up for the loss of GS #3 and #5 as I find those skills invaluable in Fractals.
I could ask you how do you make up for the loss of WA, Cyclone and Eviscerate? I find those skills invaluable in Fractals.
I can understand GS#3, it’s good as the only GS 360 skill and evade but I feel WA is much better ( +dmg +healing and 3.5s of tanking all damage) plus Cyclone is again major healing, 360 and vuln stacking.
If you pay attention to it most times in Fractals fights are 360 AoE and/or mobile therefore Axe will deal more DPS / heal more.
Examples:
- Dredge fract is almost entirely 360.
- Colossus fract, the fight vs 2 sigils you can hit 8 mobs with Axe, 2-3 with GS.
- Charr fract, all fights are 360 AoE plus mobs are mobile.
- Volcano initial fight is 360 and mobile.
- Mossman crazy tagging of wolves for rally plus healing up Mossman megadamages; you can’t just HB this boss he’s too mobile but you can Axe it.
- Asura fract vs 4 bots is 360, WA+Cyclone tear down all bots.
- Snowblind is 360 vs svanirs and elemental.
- Even the boss fractal has most mobs placed in ways you can only get them all with 360
Take away all the aforementioned situations, plus the others where you can’t stand still and HB all the time (either mobs are mobile or you take too much dmg to stand still), and you have a pretty good indicator of where GS is effective and where it is not.
Just swap weps/traits according to the situation ahead of you.
Would you say the lifesteal of the off-hand axe is better than the skills of a shield?
By miles.
Shield block won’t deal 10k dmg on a 360 degree like WA, nor heal you for 3k to 20k health.
WA basically fulfills the same purpose but also deals big damage/heals on top of it.
As I said in a perfect situation where mobs never move, never rupt, and can be all hit within a 180 degree cone, GS version gets a bit more DPS due to might stacked.
In all other situations…
…it’s a learn to play issue. Last time I checked skills had a target cap which is usually 3 or 5. and if you can’t position yourself to hit as many as you can then 360° won’t help you either. Mobs won’t run away if you pop hundred blades unless you make them. If someone else has aggro and is kiting them then you are fool to chase them with a melee weapon.
You can either work towards a functional build suited for you or copy/paste the average Joe Warrior.
