Shield for warrior feels lackluster
I rock Shield all the time. Shield is Awesome.
We get constant reflect with traits.
my only problem is the Skill Delay, and lack of range of Shield#4… make it longer range, and its awesome’er and maybe add a condition-to-boon swap effect to it on hit.
Add Swiftness to Shield#5 while blocking could also be cool, with an AoE damage at the end of block to nearby enemies or a AoE knockdown would be cool.
But I like my Charge and Block…

Of course. Im not saying things should be dramatically changed. The core idea of the skills are fine…they just seem, like i said, lackluster. I like your ideas!
I especially like the increased range on shield bash.
I manage to make mine work with a few adjustments.
I use the Defenders rune. Not so great considering it boosts heal power, but consider the fact that not many, if at all, classes can block so many hits at once like the warrior’s shield. In a tough spot, that heal per block is a given. Not to mention you get Aegis every time you use a heal skill, so that’s more health.
The defense trait is almost maxed, with two majors that reduces shield recharge and increases stance time. Yes, there are supposedly better options, but I run a sword and all the good stuff for that are in a different trait.
Speaking of which, the Arms trait’s major, major improves crit when enemy is stunned, and there’s one in Strength that applies confusion if you interupt, though I admit it’s pretty kitten hard to pull off.
Also to supplement my shield tactics I have Defiant Stance that pretty much helps me stay alive even longer in tough fights.
So yeah, if put together right, you can be a hard tower to knock down. Only problem I have is those kitten poisons. Especially in areas in PvE where they just get spammed on you no matter what they do. I’ve yet to figure out on how to fix that. It does narrow your choices a lot, but I figured that’s how it’s like in GW2 anyway.

Really, Anet? You replace the word that resembles the Hoover d-word with kitten? I have a pretty good idea what I’m expecting in the future…

Thats awesome but it didnt really match the thread haha. Do you think shield needs a bit of buffing?

It seems like shield wielding warriors get boring skills.
Guards have AoE protection + push back / absorb projectiles + heal detonate
Engineers have reflect projectiles+ detonate push back / AoE Stun or double daze
Now of course warrior does have a 1 second stun and a 3 second block…. It just doesn’t FEEL as good as it should. A warrior, the master of close range combat, and it seems like all the other shield wielders get way more out of it.
All the cool downs are very comparable with engineer having slightly longer ones, but they do get a lot of different mechanics with their shield so it makes sense.
Do you guys think warriors should have their shield skills buffed in some way? Perhaps a reduced cooldown or a better effect? Heck even more damage on shield bash would be nice.
Heh. Guard shield is underwhelming in any situation. Warrior has so many blocks on there when you combine with endure pain x2 and greatsword for running.
Nononono please don’t change shield, it’s awesome and it’s going to get better with the trait updates.
Shield has low CD, 3 second invuln that reflects projectiles, quick 1 second stun that breaks immob and sets up for combos, and grants might on blocking. Not to mention it actually feels like a shield. Blocking and shield bashing are the essential shield techniques, Guardian shield skills are terrible and feel terrible. Engineers are OK but Warrior does everything better on a lower CD.

Of course I wouldn’t mind my preferred equipment buffed and wreck everything else. Doesn’t mean that’s a good thing.
Only thing I feel that really needs support is the shield bash, because it’s very situational where everything else isn’t.
Shield #4 is lackluster. Give it a much longer charge, an evade or block during the charge animation, or just a shorter cooldown. That would make it feel more worthwhile imho.
Currently, shield #5 is like the best block skill in the game though, and when you trait it it reflects to boot. I’m very happy with my shield #5. Although if Arenanet keeps throwing annoying unblockable skills to everyone maybe it won’t cut it in the future.
