I’m assuming it’s charge+frenzy+Hb issue.

It’s funny you know, when I play spvp I get alot of tells complaining how i’m a HB noob etc from thieves mostly.

The same thieves who land 10 backstabs, 5k c+d’s and 5k steals all in a few seconds whilst remaining invisible 80 percent of the time.

Or mesmers who shatter me for 10-15k every 15 seconds or moa me and remove 50 percent of my life whilst i sit helpless?

Or elementalists who are almost bullet proof yet lay down damage.

They seem to think the only thing I do with my GS is that combo. A combo which is only available every 60 seconds. They fail to appreciate the use of blade trail, dodging at keypoints with whirlwind, getting out of range/closing range with rush, pre-emptive hbs!

The fact that GS 1 is low damage and you have to stay on top of someone to land it. No one appreciates the level of finesse a greatsword takes to work well.

What exactly would they prefer me to run? Two swords and do 0 damage? Mace for 0 damage? rifle and fdall over at the slightest breeze? longbow?

The long and short of it is in spvp/tpvp you need the burst to counter the amount of BS op’d abilities other classes have access to, and on alot shorter cooldowns than your burst.

So it’s a rod of your own making chaps.

BR, frenzy… hammer! lol. I’ve no idea what that would do, but it would look funny knocking someone down and seeing the hammer’s final auto-attack land on their head.

Myabe it’s just the rifle warriors i find, but they just fall over. I’ve never seen one and thought, wow, he was a challenge to me.

There are essentially 0 competitive rifle warriors.

I <3 my greatsword: a shot of adrenaline, attack with 100 blades, and I’m effectively a highly lethal 1-charr AOE.

This is a human nature issue. Do not take it to heart. People will complain because they cannot beat it everytime.
If you ran a build that got you destroyed everytime, I am sure you would not see any of those messages.

Lol people will always complain about everything. I like the greatsword in pve and WvW, in spvp I rarely use it but my current build deals very good damage with it. So over all is just normal Q to dah Q.

I like to respond to ignorance with equal ignorance. Pick the power ability(ies) of the QQer class and ask if they will agree not to use it you won’t use HB. I’ve asked a number of mesmers if they would agree not to use illusions I wouldn’t use HB.

It’s sad because in SPvP atm wars have very few options. You basically can run 100b or you run healing shouts to counter burst. I’m trying to come up with some other viable builds like a condition warrior. Help in developing the build is appreciated.

I don’t think 100b builds are viable for spvp or tpvp.. all it takes is a dodge or a stun break and you can’t do anything for a full minute waiting for frenzy to recharge. You’re not exactly much value to your team that way.

Even if you down someone that way, you’re helpless for another minute, while a hammer build for example is far more helpful to lock down players so your team can down them easiier.

I don’t think greatsword is a weapon that should be used in spvp or tpvp.. at most for group play (not roaming) in wvw along with the longbow or rifle. It’s just not useful in any situation where you have to down someone on your own, even with a friend few skills hold someone down for the time it takes your hundred blades to finish.

Hundred blades is a pve skill, to destroy structures and npcs.

Zsymon it doesn’t matter what you think tho. Greatsword is the only viable weapon for tpvp.

and greatsword is not only 100b, it also has rush (which can hit glass cannons for over 5k dmg) and whirlwind which is absolutely amazing and much better than 100b. WW does huge damage while giving you evasion and actually requires a skill to make it hit with all its hits

They see a problem with thieves BS and invis but don’t see the prob with there virtual insta kill every 60 sec problem. A warrior can tear off my 28K necro HP’s in a mere few seconds. After doing Wv WvW for a few weeks it was enought for me to abandon my other chars and make a war. After playing a war now, all I can say is everything I thought was true. I get to see it first hand every time I log in and play. Its a joke and I almost feel guilty.

My favorite thing to do is pop endure pain when another Warrior knocks me down, then whack him in the head with my hammer and knock him down when I get up.

I remember when instakilling every 20 seconds was too slow to make assassins viable.

100% not true. If you have a team that can do the burst then hammer CC is amazing. GS is good for damage, but it in no way is the ONLY viable weapon.

First, if a warrior is burning through your 28k hp before you can use a break stun move then you need to rethink your build. (plus necros need some serious work, rangers too)
2nd I do agree that the frenzy Bullrush+100blades is garbage and takes very little skill to do. But considering how it is INCREDIBLY easy to counter it is very much a high risk high reward combo.

I’ve actually been running a GS/Hammer build in tPvP and having a lot of success. Pretty sure for now on my stream is going to be featuring this style of PvP.

I’m finding GS is the only viable weapon in pvp also due to the sheer number of bunkers out there.

Everything else just doesn’t have the killing power/utility GS has.

Sword/sword – no damage
Mace- no damage
Axe – So easily avoidable/no utility
Warhorn – useless (honestly it is)

Hammer is nice for the CC, but I run sword/shield 2nd set as I need the mobility/escape. I encounter so much stability in other classes now though..(elementalists……)

The only way to kill these bunkers is whittle their health down to sub 50 percent, and try and get the burst in before they can simply regen themselves back to 100 in the next few seconds.

(btw, i love facing Hb warriors, as soon as they burst me, I hit endure pain and burst them back for 50 percent+ damage).

Don’t understand why the OP is shunning Mace. Clearly doesn’t know how to compliment GS with a stun that’s better than bulls charge ever will be. Simple-minded maybe? Or you just don’t know how Mace works? I mean if you’re using Sword + Shield and GS and you’re saying Mace has no damage then why the hell are you using Sword + Shield? Mace has utility (Forcing stun breaks out) like Flurry too you know lol. :\

Whats funny though? Thieves should be complaining about 7k-9k Whirlwind attacks and not Frenzy HB. And even then you don’t have to get Whirlwind attacked in the first place as a Thief anyways.

Ok, let’s assume you start the fight with the greatsword. You build up adrenaline to the 3 bars and switch to mace. You have to wait 5-10 seconds before you can use the adrenal stun to switch back to HB or you end up following the stun with mace 1, which is poor dps.

So that’s 5-10 seconds spent of not really damaging your target. Pretty much any weapon is better than mace as your GS compliment.

The reason I go sword is because I find I need the leap and snare to keep on my target/get away from opponents. Mace gives you no options to close people down.

Sword flurry is a 4 sec root, that is an eternity. Sword 1 actually does pretty good damage and bleeds allowing you to fire off any sigils on your sword moreso than a mace.

In spvp it’s just far more zergy so I prefer to have escape options open, same as in WvW. In Tpvp axe is better than sword just to get bunkers down.

I’ve tried every weapon combo, and certain ones just don’t cut it. Stability kills the mace line i’m afraid, and I see alot of stability in matches.

Can we instead assume positively, such that the Warrior would have the wherewithall to go Mace/Whatever (let’s say shield), build up the rest of the necessary Adrenaline over 5-10 seconds, stun-combo right at 3 bars and appropriately springboard into 100B from there?

Your analysis of the Mace as a GS compliment hinges on a situation where the Warrior performs poorly.

How so?

How did you build up the adrenaline?

If it’s with mace then your dps just dropped a shed load.

So you have your 3 bars built, hit mace adrenal and switch to Hb, the time to switch over and hit Hb is still 0.5 secs, so you end up with 1.5 secs to execute HB. Maybe a few swings at most?

There has to be good reason to spend adrenaline. You lose your 10 percent crit bonus, 12 percent extra damage and adrenal heals (in my case anyway), all that for a 2 sec stun?…

Least with hammer its Aoe and has a closer.

You could potentially snare with the GS, then Mace/Axe would give you Counter Blow (auto-adren regardless), Dual Strike, and Whirling Axe.

For example, you could Whirlwind through, throw Bladetrail, swap to Mace/Axe, Fear Me!, Whirling Axe on top of them, Dual Chop (if there’s time, maybe cut Whirling Axe short), Counter-Blow, Skull Crack and then if you have Fast Hands, 100B.

Of course there are all sorts of things you’re probably prepping to say that would nullify that combo (many of which boil down to “x is so easy to dodge” or “just use stability”), but it’s plausible anyway.

Then again, this is probably another situation where one person is trying to argue tPvP/top tier play (mostly irrelevant for the majority of people), another is trying to argue sPvP/WvWvW/general viability, and miscommunication leads to frustration.

Either way, if someone can get a weapon to work, more power to him/her. We need innovators working this weapons into the ground instead of just ruling them out until devs make changes, otherwise the class will stagnate.

I do see where you’re coming from. I wonder if it would be OP if the MH Mace/OH Sword abilities were 1.5 seconds of block, followed by an attack if a single block triggered over the duration. Blocking one instance of damage is OK in certain situations (Guardian GS leap, Warrior burst abilities, Thief Backstab, I’m sure there are a few others), but it does feel like a lackluster mechanic.

All this talk has me interested in playing around with them though. Also, Longbow + 3 Banners = 15 stacks of Might for about 25 seconds in an AoE. If you switch to Berserker Stance before the match starts, you could stack kittenloads of might before you’re out the gate.

Well thief is getting a nerf soon for the stuff you talk about. Burst damage/backstab isn’t going to be a lazy kill switch. So I expect warriors to have similiar treatment soon. They have similar easy mode combos. There are way to many combos floating around that let people eat through someone with 2200+ toughness in a few seconds. Its absurd and its not very fun in the long run.

Ofcourse there are rifle warriors attempting to be competitive. But in all my time doing paids i have only seen one rifle warrior. We stomped him first.

the reality on warrior is greatsword or reroll. Hammer, rifle x + shield are ok as secondary weapons, but overall lackluster. weapon sets, trait trees feel half done

Playing greatsword well takes coordination and timing to kill and get out.

We are playing a game with 5 buttons per weapon set, people cry about what ever hits hard.

Greatsword is all we warriors have, without it were nothing.
