Exact Rank / Rankpoints to be 80 at 15.4
Lol, the more cynical part of me is reading that as: “How many more bars until I’m finished the last possible reason to PvP before April 15th?”

I’ll still be PvPing even after I hit rank 80, I never expected to hit rank 80 ever in the lifetime of GW2 since I only play like 2 hours a day, so whats the difference now? If your only incentive for playing PvP was the ridiculous rank grind, then perhaps you should play a game like Aion

^- This!
BTT: The most accurate information we have on this topic is the following:
Ranks 39?54 got rebalanced to be linear 39?80.
Therefore I expect that it is enough to hit rank 54.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Most accurate i heard was 53.3333smth, so rank 80 after playing 583 days for me, will i say “thx for free rank 80” nope all i can say is “about kitten time”
im 56 and i wont play that much pvp until update as well
just because ill farm pve gold to unlock stuff to buy skins etc
doing pvp now gives minor gold and a bi rank points what would only give me a bit pve levels….
doing pve i get more gold..
also testing some things even if a lot will change
once the update is there ill keep on playing pvp a lot because then i get reward tracks and feel a bit rewarded…
ofc if i want to play pvp i will do so or f a freind calls for a tpvp +1 or something alike
but other than that
i doubt ill have that much fun playing something that doesnt really rewards me at all..^^
and if my speculations are correct and the super adventure box opends tomorrow
ill have something to play around
during the time i have to wait for the reward tracks : DD
to answer your question
(even if some guys might hate me for posting this)
271.500 rank points till 38 then u will need 20.000 for each rank u got 825.000 more than that so you will get 41.25 levels more than 38 which means ull need 3/4 new level or 15.000 rank points to hit the dragon isntantly when the update will bring destruction and death .. or at least A FEW DRAGONS .. aw my god its goin to be soo many.. xDD
( pls dont hate me if its wrong… http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pvp_rank
if u want to you can correct me.. D : )

It’s an MMO. That means grind. It’s not some MOBA.

Here’s a new quest for grinding for you then.
Grind out 10,000 gold SOLELY through PvP Matches.

Give me a title/mini/visible rank and I’ll do it. The idea is for everyone to be able to see the achievement. Personal satisfaction is not enough.
Getting to level 80 in PvE takes only a few days. That has not stopped people from continuing to play the game, and neither will getting to glory rank 80. It will still take as much time to get to glory rank 80 as it does to level 8 characters to level 80 in PvE (probably way longer). It’s a great move.

Ooh, bad example. PvE players have other ways of showing off time spent. Gold. Legendaries. Achievement points. Loot. Take away all that, I can assure you GW2 will be a desert. No one plays “just for fun” in an MMO.
So far ranks have been the only marker of our time spent in PvP. Taking that away is akin to confiscating everyone’s loot, legendaries and gold in PvE.

Uh, after the patch PvPers will be able to work toward legendaries, can make gold, dungeon loot from reward tracks, and various max level rewards from glory rank chests. Have you even looked at the blog posts or watched the Ready-Up episodes? GW2 youtube/twitch channel is your friend.

After, after, after. What about time already spent? Means nothing?
Let’s revamp PvE and start over. Take away everyone’s legendaries. Because hey! They surely farmed the mats and gold via CoF runs and champ trains right? Right?

Keep the cynical kitten going, maybe the increasing post count makes a dev aware to give me a real answer!
Give me a title/mini/visible rank and I’ll do it. The idea is for everyone to be able to see the achievement. Personal satisfaction is not enough.
^Ever considered that you might be a minority and that people actually do want to play an MMO with ridiculous amounts of grind?
The fact is that what you see as prestige, others just see as a grind. Do you really think people are going to respect you because you played ten thousand games of conquest? Just because you think you look cool with a shiny finisher, doesn’t mean other people give two kittens about it.
Anyone can go get a high rank very fast now simply by forcing autobalance in hotjoin and farming 100% wins while semi-AFK.
I respect the people who are actually good at this game and who work together well on teams. Not people who have a lot of games played, and even less for people who have lots of games played and nothing to show for it other than a finisher.

If it means nothing, then let those of us who want it, have it! According to you it doesn’t matter anyway so everyone’s happy. Is there a downside to this?

The whole point of my post is this: because rank doesn’t have anything to do with how good you are as a player, it doesn’t need to be exclusive or reserved for only 10 players out of a playerbase of thousands. Leaderboard/ ladder placement based on performance should be the basis for exclusive rewards.
On the flip side, a more attainable ranking system is also nice for new people entering PvP and gives them a sense of progression. Right now the current ranking system encourages absolute nolifing in a game touted for no grinding. This change brings it more in line with the rest of the game, and makes PvP more accessible for average players
If you want to grind, perhaps you should go to Runescape and level up your cooking experience to 200M. Maybe people will be jealous of your ‘achievement’ there.

Since you agree that a sense of progression is important, what about progression after we hit 80? Do we just stop playing then? What incentive is there?

Since your goal is to flaunt your achievement toward other players and not just a personal incentive, you would then use the leaderboards or the upcoming league system.
Before you say the leaderboards are flawed and terrible, that’s not a valid excuse.

Leaderboards are temporary. After I quit for six months and come back, what is there for all my past work? It’s like quitting for six months and all your legendaries and achievement points have been reset.
Why is this so difficult to understand? Is this so unreasonable?

uh jeah youre right HELL YEAH
party everyone after 1.5years working for skins and ranks
we can finally build and do all that what pve lers could do … 1.5years already…
we can start building elgendarys while in pve and as soon as the updates hit also pve lers that start with pvp will walk around with legendarys…. great.. so we can look just like them once we have made enough money an stuff…-.-
if they dont give more than just the bathasar backpiece uniqe to pvp
pvp is going to die
we need a long term goal
like legendarys for pve were…
like these crazy titles for wvw
or.. like dragon rank right now in pvp is
if they really scale the pvp titles down as well and we got nothing from playing pvp other than pve loot …..
great : ( …
but hey we can build our legedarys….
now… we can start doing that..
when a TON of legendarys are out there …
awesome..^^

Except your MMR is frozen, it is only changed when you win or lose a match. Your rating on the leaderboard is always changing if you do not play. You can quit for 6 months, come back and win one match and be back in the top 1000 again.
It’s actually possible to lose 3 matches and gain rank because of this.

So if I repeatedly lose a match (100 times in a row), my rank goes? What if I try new builds constantly and die a lot?
Do PvE’ers lose their legendaries when they die a lot in PvE or try out a new class, or take a break? I just..I can’t…why can’t people get this?
I’m pretty sure I saw that they are leveling it out to be 20k/rank from 39-80. If that is true, then:
39-80 = 820k glory (20k x 41 ranks)
Right now, from 39
450k to hit 49 (45k from 39-49). 75k a rank after that. Hitting 54 is 825k.
So it looks like 53 with 70k/75k is the mark. This is assuming my quick math was correct, and it is 20k a rank from 39-80.

sorry but skyfarmer or hj farmer dont deserve anything in pvp, i think its quite clear here.
a) The “skyhammer” myth continues. Those who’re r70 now were already well above 55 at the time.
b) You don’t get to decide who’s worthy or a “true” PvP’er. This is quickly becoming the “No true Scotsman” fallacy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman
I hate rank cause I’m actually bad and don’t want ppl to see how much time I’ve spent pvping pls hide ranks Ty
Rabbit 5ever
I’ll still be PvPing even after I hit rank 80, I never expected to hit rank 80 ever in the lifetime of GW2 since I only play like 2 hours a day, so whats the difference now? If your only incentive for playing PvP was the ridiculous rank grind, then perhaps you should play a game like Aion
^^^^^ this………………….
It’s an MMO. That means grind. It’s not some MOBA.
Go grind your brains out in PvE. Nobody is stopping youuuu.
I still think that ranks should not be capped at 80. Let people progress as high as they want, and start introducing new rewards the higher someone goes. For example, 80 can be dragon, 100 can be elder dragon, etc. There is no good reason not to do this.
Except your MMR is frozen, it is only changed when you win or lose a match. Your rating on the leaderboard is always changing if you do not play. You can quit for 6 months, come back and win one match and be back in the top 1000 again.
It’s actually possible to lose 3 matches and gain rank because of this.
So if I repeatedly lose a match (100 times in a row), my rank goes? What if I try new builds constantly and die a lot?

PvP is intended to be competitive, if you can’t keep up with your position in the leaderboard and you complain that when you lose and you fall out of it because you took a break; its working as intended. There have been suggestions of an unranked queue, perhaps in your 6 month break it would be added by then.
As compared to legendaries, they are so common now that they have literally lost its value to others. It’s not like Thunderfury in World of Warcraft where only 10 people at max have it.
If your goal is to show off your progress to other players in the game, you are really not going to get much of a response with a legendary because so many have it.

The whole goal of rebalancing the ranks was to make sure that max rank is actually obtainable. Adding more ranks after 80 makes no sense because the problem with new pvpers never reaching rank 100 (in your example) would still exist.
Did everyone forget that it still takes over 300 hours in PvP to reach rank 80?
Give me a title/mini/visible rank and I’ll do it. The idea is for everyone to be able to see the achievement. Personal satisfaction is not enough.

@bhag: I think worrying about what other people have is a slippery slope. You can’t do that. Do the Achievement for yourself. Don’t worry about what others have.
That little purple bar that goes up when you play PvP is just the PvP XP bar. That’s all it is and all it ever was. They just made it easier for us to earn PvP XP. Play PvP because you have a good time doing it. It makes the game so much better when you aren’t slowly watching a bar go up. Try it. It might shock you at how fun the game can be when you play just for the sake of playing.

Sure the game is fun. But that’s not why I play. And isn’t it wrong to tell other people why they should play? I’m not harming anyone else. And this is an MMO. A halmark of the genre is character progression.

Competitiveness cannot come at the cost of progression. You must always remember that this is an MMO. People play to get better skins, titles, etc for prestige. There is no reason in the world why it can’t be competitive and progressive. People seem to be forgetting that this is not an either/or situation.
For example give those of us who have a high rank right now a one time mini. See how easy it is? Can anyone possibly object to it?
Legendaries may not mean much, but does that mean Anet just destroys all legendaries? The fact remains that it means a person did work. And legendaries are a testament to it. You can’t just rob a person of the token of their work.
Wrt to your objection to ranks after 80, you’ve said that ranks don’t mean anything. So who cares if it goes above 80 right? Everyone’s happy!

While you might be okay with receiving a mini, I doubt the others would. You can’t really speak on behalf on the entire elitist population.
Also, making a mini is a bit extreme and takes to much resources. A better option would be to include a title which could only be obtained during this period much like the paid tournament titles.

I am not really understanding what exactly you want, do you want a title to signify that you went through the grind before the patch? That is perfectly reasonable and should be done.
But your other posts suggest that after the patch, there is no incentive after you hit rank 80, but if we were to add a mini or a patch specific title there is still no incentive which conflicts with your previous posts.

Well, you’re right. I’d still like some progression because I find PvP more exciting and superior to PvE, but unless PvP has some progression I won’t find any reason to play it. But even without further progression in PvP, beggars can’t be choosers. I’ll take the title. Or a mini. Or an achievement even if it’s zero points, or some special piece of armor. Anything really…anything.
As you said, I just want something to show that I went through the grind.
I would really love more progression in some way or the other though. That would be ideal. I want to keep playing PvP!! But no progression makes it a big no-no.
Arenanet, please give Bhagwad a “Hotjoin Hero” title!
Then give him, “I Grind So Hard” at 15 million rank points!
That way, he will stop spamming the forum, and contentedly grind his way until he reaches 15m rank pts for his title.
