If you think that’s great mobility then you have never played a thief or mesmer they don’t have to sacrifice that much to get great mobility and battlefield presence.

You mean when using a specific weapon (greatsword) as well as using specific food (lemongrass) as well as having a specific trait (dogged march) as well as having specific runes (melandru) as well as having at least 20 points in Discipline for movement skills break immobilize?

Other classes with mobility don’t have to make their entire build and even food they eat centered around mobility just to be okay at it. Now, if doing all that made us the best at mobility in the game, you may have a point, but you sacrifice a lot and are still not even on the same level.

Because I don’t see Warriors running Greatsword,Lemongrass,Dogged March,Melandru…

no one runs melandru runes anymore since dogged march gave us slightly more runes choices.

I don’t run either, and I don’t have trouble with mobility impairing conditions. I could use a little more condi removal for damaging condis though.

Greatsword and shake it off, yes. The rest, no. I do use signet of stamina though, because why wouldn’t you? I also take mobile strikes and restorative strength on the way up trees I would use anyway.

If you just wanted to be completely ridiculous,you could take war horn with quick breathing, but that’s overkill against most opponents.

Why do warriors think they should have everything without having to spec for it?

Eles go 30 up their healing tree and 30 up their support tree (even most DPS oriented eles) to get good condi removal. They have to take zephyr’s boon and elemental attunement with boon duration to keep perma swiftness. They have to take D/D to have mobility skills and their best one is on a stupidly long 40 second cooldown. Thief has to take shortbow to be mobile.

I see glass cannon warriors with 0 points in their toughness or healing trees bawling their precious little eyes out about how fragile they are and talking about how other classes have this that and the other thing. Hint: they have it because they specced for it.

I would kill 5 people of the dev’s choice to have signet of stamina, shake it off, mobile strikes and signet of fury on an ele.

But thank you for derailing a thread which should be about how 2 of the most played and powerful proffs in the game are getting another free mechanic when other classes have been in the trash heap for the past 8 months.

I simply corrected a wildly inaccurate statement. Then all of the terribles who don’t know how to play jumped up and down screaming.

As far as being in the trash heap for 8 months, Java and Xeph(?) called warrior the most balanced profession in game a few months ago during the SoTG. The only major negative change since then was to quickness, and most good warriors didn’t rely on that to begin with.

It is truly sad that mesmers and thieves are getting something new for the fake reason of build diversity when there are classes in this game that literally have no strong builds atm and no presence in spvp.

I agree it’s dumber than a Dane Cook comedy special to give the two most obnoxious classes in the game an obnoxious condition that punished people for moving. I never said otherwise. If you look on page one, I mentioned thinking that this would be a good condi for necros and staff eles to help deal specifically with the troll classes ANet ended up giving it to.

Ohh and btw are you guys gingers? Because I can’t fathom a person bringing up warriors as a scapegoat or used in the fashion you’re talking about unless you’re a ginger.

Don’t really have any clue why you would bring up eles. You really have no idea how warriors are played and why.

What would someone who plays a mesmer know about balance. When ppl use the term balance to describe warriors it used in the context that they pose no threat to the class they play and are fine with the broken meta that we are currently left with.

Like alot of ppl on these forums you type alot and say nothing. You could really condense your thoughts down quite a bit.

I love how people cry about Thieves getting Torment, even though the only known source they will get it is from a utility skill, Skale Venom.

Like most companies that make mistakes and or create bad / useless skills (and traits) … instead of simply removing it or scraping it entirely, they simply work their new mechanic into it. Which is like being too prideful to realize that their current garbage is just that, freakin’ garbage that belongs in the trash heap along with the other 70% of useless traits / sigils / runesets / skills / utility skills. Can’t admit to their mistakes, so they just cover it up with a simple and under-done reworking of a worthless utility.

Realistically … if Skale Venom is the ONLY source that thieves get Torment from, this will be a negligible joke at best. Are you really going to be so afraid of 3 -potential- stacks of torment that last for 5 seconds? 3 stacks out of 15?

No one uses Skale Venom now, because it’s a useless, crappy venom and just a poorly designed “utility” all around. Even with Torment, it will remain almost the same level of useless trash that it is now.

Torment isn’t even released and people are crying up and down about Thieves. And realistically, I can’t see an immediate damage / burst / spike thief wanting to rely on a damage over time component. No one’s going to give a flying kitten about 3 stacks of negligible damage compared to the RIDICULOUS damage that pure damage thieves push out with little effort involved.

The game needs work … and polishing … and we need new traits and builds, if not a rebalance to the levels of instant damage being dealt. So what does Arenanet do?

KITTEN GUIZ … WE’RE FAILING AT DOING A GUD JERB … UH … NEW CONDITION, LOL THAT WILL SOLVE EVERYTHING! =D

… I have no faith in Arenanet, at all, and for good reason. Also, clam the eff down about Thieves. They’re getting another bowl full of nerfs to the only good weapon set they have that’s truly useful in SPvP, S/D.

So seriously, I’ll say it again, whining morons. Clam the eff down.

Datamining has been a thing for a long time … after enough years of experience with people who do that sort of thing it’s actually quite believable, whether it’s released or not.

Really the only thing up in the air is what they do to tweak it before it’s released. Honestly, I’d give a lot of props to data mining players. Why? Because Arenanet doesn’t want to ask for feedback on their trash until AFTER they’ve patched it into the game.

This way, we can have at least one tiny ray of hope that Arenanet might get something right with something called feedback.

Besides … Powerr being QA doesn’t bring me ANY peace of mind if HE is the guy who’s testing / giving feedback as his “Quality Assurance” job considering he’s just some average player who abuses everything he possibly can to get to the top, non legitimately.

Zero respect for him, and zero respect for Arenanet. (‘Cause neither of them deserve it) And Arenanet definitely doesn’t deserve the money they made off of the hype they created blabbing their meatholes about esports when they don’t even know the first thing about creating a fun system in which players can fight evenly matched players and work their way to the top.

They’re too stuck up their own catsmeowkittenkittenkitten (sigh, this language filter) to acknowledge anything that’s TRIED AND TRUE.

I don’t get it, why would it be bad if torment is damage based on movement and not distance traveled?
If it is on distance traveled, it will pretty much make thieves,mesmers and elementalists useless.
If it is on stepping, your enemy thief-mesmer etc. will just teleport away, but still won’t be able to move far if he knows he is going to take a lot of damage.
The second case is like a new immobilize.

Enemy teleports away, and if he doesn’t want to die, he will have to stay in place for a few seconds, that gives you the opportunity to chase him down and kill him.

Simply:
It’s a teleport counter.

I guess you’re a bit newer to MMO’s in general … not talking down, just stating what I’m seeing through your response to that.

Realistically, time will tell and we’ll see how much of those leaked patch notes are true. Obviously they’re up in the air to be tweaked before release but … I truthfully wouldn’t imagine that 100% of that information is false.

No … I purely bought this game pre-launch so I could come here on the forums and make people angry instead of getting in on stress tests because I was excited about this game. I don’t have any interest in playing the game I payed 60$ and some change for, and I didn’t come specifically to the SPvP forums because I want to see if they’re making good changes or not. No interest in the game, just forums and the ramblings they have on them.

In case you can’t tell, that entire bit was complete sarcasm. And I’m pretty certain at this point that I had to spell it out for you, otherwise you PROBABLY would have believed me.

Yes, I think there’s plenty wrong with those patch notes. I disagree with a lot on there, but do I question as to whether or not Arenanet made those notes? Not really, because after seeing Arenanet do enough silly and or stupid things, I’d honestly believe that they would think it’s a smart idea to introduce a new condition to the game when CLEARLY that is NOT what this game needs right now.

It needs a HELL of a lot of things changed, fixed, rebalanced, reworked, and have many things added to the game to improve quality of life for players – especially those who play this game because they were interested in a quality PvP game, not something that quite literally feels like a side project sold purely by hype of this game being esports material.

Of which, it is not, and has been quite a disappointment for me since about 2-3 months after release once I learned that build diversity doesn’t really exist.

Their idea that adding a new condition and changing a worthless skill for thief (skale venom) is going to open up new builds for them makes me want to laugh. It’s like they don’t even honestly care about PvP being esports. Otherwise they’d probably dedicate more than two people to balancing it, and furthermore, it wouldn’t take them months to fix gamebreaking bugs (block bug, for example) while they maintain any form of a leaderboard.

Their method of fixing / balancing / running their game is quite honestly, a sad joke.

Edit: When I say things need to be added, I’m more or less talking about more than just conquest mode, which has contributed to PvP feeling stale. Or a TRUE solo queue … or maybe a possible solo/duo queue, that is NOT linked up with full premades. I really think that would be quite enjoyable for many. :/

If you wanted to have an actual discussion about what you asked me, then perhaps you should’ve actually read a bit before having some petty asinine response.

p/d thieves are the bane of all existence in WvW. Its almost impossible to catch them and equally difficult to get away from them. And they are a condition build, Torment is exactly what they would use.

So, what now? ANet found that some Thieves were still getting caugth, or lose their target? They attempted to fix it before when they buffed the trait to increase speed in stealth to a whooping 50%. And now this.

Yeah this is going to be real fun. Cannot ever catch a p/d thief, and cannot ever escape a p/d thief.
Also, what the hell is up with all these boons/conditions that punish players for just playing the game? Retaliation if you hit me, Confusion if you use any skill and now Torment for just moving. Seems kinda important to get out of AoE and such…

So, next patch we’ll see another new condition? Suffering mayhaps? Deals extra damage if the target stays logged in? Thief exclusive, obviously.

What makes you think that p/d thieves are so hard to catch and that it’s so difficult to run away from them? Both this and p/p weapon sets have the lowest mobility for thieves. As a player who used to run a p/d thief in WvW, I can assure you that just about anyone can run away from this build and people will catch the thief if they want to. This is actually one of the biggest problems with this weapon set, and in addition to bad synergy of skills and limited to damage done by mainly one condition, may partially explain why hardly anyone plays p/d thief nowadays. The possibility of being able to use torment now can possibly help deal with these problems and make p/d and maybe even p/p somewhat more viable.
I do however share your frustration on all of these conditions that “punish” players for simply playing, if anything, even preventing quality play (such as not moving, not doing fast attacks or using skills at all). I’m even more concerned that all of these “punishing” conditions will be available to one particular profession. I hope a balance was somehow worked out to prevent it from being OP.

This will be fun for Mesmers…

Imagine getting 10 stacks of Torment & Confusion.

Did you move? You take damage.
Did you press a button? You take damage.
Are you standing still doing nothing? You’re taking damage.

10 stacks of confusion does approx 1150 damage..so the same as 2 scepter auto attacks. Torment has been revealed to stack in intensity, not duration,..mesmer can only apply it one way, so no need to fret about insensity. Confusion only becomes a legit problem when you have multiple mesmers applying confusion in a tight area and building the stacks to 17+..which currently with how fast it wears off, I very much doubt it would ever get that high. I am about to post my results of “trying build diversity.” around the mesmer considering it is one of the most complained about classes. To give a spoiler, anything outside of the current shatter or Phantasm meta as of 24/6/2013 my results are dismal to say the least.
