Would anyone mind giving a detailed explanation on what exactly makes a Bunker so valuable to a team, what to build for when going bunker, and why a team doesn’t simply run 5 bunkers and be done with it?

What is it that makes Rangers, Engineers, and Guardians such good bunkers compared to other classes? What separates them from eachother? What class makes the “best” bunker?

Bunkers are there to stay inside the circle at all costs. Usually guardian bunkers use CC aswell to keep dps enemies out and revive downed allies.

Imagine a bunker and 4 grenade engineers bombarding a point. If there were 5 engineers, one of them would have to go down in the circle and get bombarded by the other team. Thats prefty much what bunkers are for :P

If you run 5 bunkers you get into a stalemate where its a battle of who can get to the middle point and capture it before the other does, then nothing sill happen throughout the battle.

In a 5bunkers vs 5 dps/roameds the 5 dps will win, simply because the 5dps arent getting pressure back and can focus on doing damage. Also, once the dps captures a point theres no way of the bunkers taking it back because they dont have damage.

In big circles like the graveyard bunkers arent needed as much if you ask me, because theres plenty room for mobility so you dont suffer from aoes as much.

Guardians have alot of healing and some aoe boon support, while rangers use evades from sword/dagger and dont have much boon support/CC.

Usually the ranger goes to the close point, they can revive themselves without help from Allies aswell. They also still dish out damage due to their pet and are practically invincible (warning: over-dramatization) in a 1vs1 fight.

Im not sure about engineer bunkers, but my team usually has a conditiony/healy engineer on the close point instead of ranger. They can also revive themselves and have alot of condition aoes that fir nicely in the circle to force people out :P.

I think the meta shifted from beastmaster ranger to spirit ranger… Still no idea what they do though, apart from being really pretty and making me burn stuff.

Different bunkers are used for different things. If you look at a guardian bunker, they are used primarily for team fights because of all the support they give: boons, condition removal, healing, stomp/res potential, and CC. All of this + they can stand on the point, keeping it in their teams favor or neutral, so that other people don’t have to. When other people don’t have to stand on the point, then they can do things like kite, line of site, go up z-axis areas, etc.

When you look at other bunkers, for example a spirit ranger bunker, they offer less team support. They still give team support, don’t get me wrong: the spirits, healing spring, and CC are all great. However, they are amazing at 1v1ing while also having pretty good mobility. These 2 things make them great for playing a backpoint. A backpoint player doesn’t have to be a bunker, but it definitely helps if you are one because you can survive longer against multiple people. Being mobile means you can go back and forth from your backpoint and somewhere else on the map faster. It also means you can chase people to your backpoint and have a better chance of not having your point neutralized.

A guardian bunker wouldn’t be great at backpointing because it’s not a very good 1v1 class, and it’s not a very mobile class (with a more standard bunker guardian build). It’s all about the role in which you need to fill. You don’t necessarily “need” any bunkers at all, but it’s a hell of a lot easier to play with them because you can make more mistakes and still win.

Engi bunker. 2 water fields that can be blasted consistent Aoe heals from a few sources great survivability against Condi builds not very boon reliant so SD thief is less of a problem.

Edit: also has the most self blasts in the game. Can also trait to take 53% less damage while disabled (stun/fear/kb/kd/daze etc.)

The MOST important part of being a bunker is not dieing…as long as you do not die, the enemy team can’t take the point away from you.

This is why Rangers, Guardians make excellent bunkers, they can avoid dieing for a long, long time. Damage may be rubbish but they just contest the point until teammates arrive to kill your foes.

Guardian bunker brings team support, which is why they’re usually a center bunker. In particular, multiple sources of group stability are something no other bunker brings.

For side bunkers, they’re often builds that can survive until help arrives and win 1v1.

so Bunkers main job in pvp is to hold a point. bunkers dont have a lot of dps so a bunker must be good at CC, using defensive cooldowns and dodging. by this time your ally prefer a dps roamer should have come and assisted you if your outnumbered. if your a bunker and 1 dps or any class is trying to take your point from you and you feel you can stay there and not die. i just simply dont ask for any assistant.

your 2nd question, guardian are the most viable bunker in the game because of high toughness, lots of healing ability, CC and damage negation boons. also it gives stability to team and retaliation.

They can be either. Rangers are in fact squishy if you were to make them take hits standing compared to other classes—the reason why they are one of the best builds is their ability to do sustained dps with high defense around proccing protection/regen and then having evades on their weapon sets along with vigor access and regular dodges. Unlike guardian, you can get high defense attributes w/o sacrificing damage (through condis usually but before BM nerf, they could get sustained damage on their BM build via their pet while having high def). Playing backpoint, spirit rangers are one of the best 1v1 classes (matchup wise). Playing mid, they can be one of the greatest assets with their spirit buffs and elite res.
