A few days ago in Boston during an event that had people from around the world in it and innocent people lining the streets cheering them on, someone or a group of people changed our daily lives once again. The result was people losing hands, legs and an 8 year old boy his life.

As I log onto this GAME I try to lose myself from the horrors of the world around us for a little while. I’ve been in WvW when Darkhaven server lost everything to another server for days on end, and while frustrating I kept trying to do what little I could to help out the friends and people who call DH their home server. I’ve been on the other side when another server could do nothing to hold back the losses it was seeing from our server.

As I read your ranting about “unfair” advantages and or disadvantages, mass numbers mindlessly beating on gates and commanders without a clue how to command I ask myself what world you live in that attacking people in these forums assuages you. To the best of my knowlege the pixels in this game have never been to Pork Chop Hill, Antietum, Hiroshima, or any other number of famous or infamous battle you care to put on these forums. I truly feel sorry for you if these tragic times in mans history in any way relate to a game that can be turned off in your home and in no way effect your neighbors life next door.

If things on GW2 truly frustrate you to the point you feel the need to verbally attack people you have never met, I’d suggest you might try logging into something else like Farmville or solitare. I’m pretty sure the parents of that 8 year boy, Martin Richard, would love to have a way point to bring their boy back to them in real life, but there is no reset button for them. I pray their sorrow can one day find an end and I hope that one day you might find perspective as to what is really important in this life, because even as I type them the pixels in this will one day fade or be deleted, life will not.

DH is about to lose 2 commanders, one from Abys and the other another from BURN.
Also, about 8 other people from TSN,BURN, and Abys.

The people of DH really do have massive ego issues. They have more points than both IoJ and DR combined. In this picture I see a total of 5 DR defending, and DH had enough to create swords (so the 30+ accusation is accurate, although I believe it was much more than that).

If you’re destroying your opponents by more than double their points, and you have a zerg that outnumbers them 6:1 at minimum with 2 golems, and you still feel the need to exploit, your server is garbage. It’s not even like it’s one or two random PUGs anymore, it’s an Abys commander now, taking out 80 supply (at least) worth of seige unfairly. DH is most definitely the least skilled server DR has met. I apologize to those that have been playing fairly and friendly toward us, this message is not to you. It is to those that have cheated and killed your reputation.

I just wanted to say that after some.. confrontations about bringing this to my servers attention.. that not everyone thinks it is much of an issue. The commanders I talked to seemed reasonable though, so we will see as far as that goes.

The issue is that Anet has not come right out and said using things like gZoom (look it up on youtube, thats how I found out about it) are against the ToS (at least to my, and others, knowledge).

If someone has access to where they say this is a bannable offense, it would really help my case on this.

It seems to be more of an issue of morals than strict “cheating.” That said, Anet should really consider making it clear whether or not this is accepted. I cant imagine they see it as intended, given what I have just seen on youtube. I dont want to post the link for fear of this post getting deleted, and I want this to be looked into.

Again, if you have a link to where Anet says this is against the T&C’s, I would really appreciate it.

On a related note, this makes me not really want to play WvW on Darkhaven at all… and since I dont have the gold to transfer, I think I will be taking a break.

It should be obvious that I agree, but I cant actually provide evidence that it is bannable. :\ The terms and conditions are far too open to interpretation. The comments on one of the videos even says “people should be banned for using it” not that they actually are. I am hoping for something like “using third party programs such as gZoom is against the terms and conditions and will result in an account ban.” I am hoping to specifically find them saying that using the zoom hack is bannable. Honestly, some of the stuff is pretty benign (like first person view).

edit: The fact any of this is even possible in a modern MMO is pretty shocking to me.

gzoom is software that modifies/changes operation of game. If it was something that changed VISUAL things client side, like texmod did with GW1, I don’t think that would be in violation.

Really, what would help Tuluum is if Devon outright says that it’s against the rules, and that there’ll be patches down the road to solve it, but…

Thats where interpretation comes in though… I think it should be obvious that some of the things, like flying (I mean, come on..) are not able to be done by any other means.

However, the zoom one, very specifically, is only changing the visual side of things. It doesnt increase AC range, or anything like that. It just allows for a larger FOV. Even without a third party program, this can be done with a multi-monitor setup with exactly the same results and those are not against the T&C.

Its the ambiguity in this specific case that seems to be the issue.

Exactly right Pixie (as per usual :P).

I would really appreciate this specific issue being addressed. As it stands, there are some who are interpreting it to give them the same experience as someone who has several monitors, which is not against the T&C. While I am morally against it, I cant actually say it is specifically against the T&C since it can be accomplished without any third party software.

Patching this, or at least clarifying the issue, would be very much appreciated.

I am a tech guy, and I question this explanation.

While I concede that with multiple monitors, you are able to render more viewable data on screen.. a 120" screen at 1080 (what I am able to run, btw) is still displaying exactly the same information as a 15" screen. There are still 1920×1080 lines of information. On a multi-monitor setup, this changes to say 5760×1080 (three screens running at 1080p), and therefore, is able to render more viewable information for the user.

There may be something in the software side of things I am missing, so please clarify if that is the case.

Its still ambiguous since the exact same thing can be achieved through hardware and no third party software whatsoever.

So, it could be argued there is technically no change to the operation of the game itself as the game is coded to allow for multi-monitor setups like eyefinity.

Just for kicks, try playing GW2 on a tv screen 50-60 inch, without the “mod” you can see the same visual range as with the mod on a smallr screen. It isn’t a hack since it is built into the game for a different screen size and resolution than is normal for most people. Complaining to Anet won’t change that.

I can’t answer that. I use a single 36 inch so I can’t test it to prove it one way or the other. Standing where the arrow cart is placed my POV is always hung up on the underside of the lip on top of the wall or from behind my toon and against the wall.

Well sounds like it falls under one of those ‘moral’ things then. They can still warn the offenders and if they continue to do it, punish them. Not sure how evidence would be collected though. They can track them and if they don’t see a third party program, but still have evidence of them doing something they shouldn’t be doing, I think that would be good enough evidence to send a warning.

Fair enough. I originally had the game running through my “theater” at release, but have since moved and have not hooked it up again yet. So, I am not able to test it either.

I just have my doubts as to that specific explanation. It doesnt really change our points though; that through hardware, the exact same thing can be accomplished as the third party software, and is therefore coded into the game as a feature.

To be honest, it sounds like a real tough issue for Anet to tackle. I would still appreciate clarification though.

Just to chime in on this whole “dark haven’ers are cheaters” garbage. Just like any other server in guild wars, there are going to be a plethora of scum bags,kittenrs,melon heads and hair lips.

Ive seen players from other servers run right through a wall while im chasing them. Ive seen players span amazing distances in almost zero time amongst other things.

But to say that our server is Poop because of it is silly. at the end of the day our servers are litter boxes and every once in a while you have to sift the kitten then…the minty freshness returns.

So having said that…if people are cheating..boot em.. If people are hacking….ban em….

but lets not say that an entire server is …crappy.

First of all:
1- I know Abyss thief commander and he doesn’t us the exploit. He is totally against that. If he’s using a cart, it is not with an hack of some sort but legitimately.

2- We in Abyss have had a discussion about this hack and this thread, our conclusion was that nobody in Abyss is allowed to use it because we do not want a negative reputation.

You can flatter your ego and justify your “bad performance” all you want by pretending we hack, but our guild does not allow it and if an isolated case would arise (and certainly not that commander which is as clean as one can possibly be in terms of playing the game fairly) it will surely be dealt with by our guild leader.

If in fact it is all the SAB zoom bug. If it’s 3rd party, well..we already know Anet wouldn’t let that slide. WvW isn’t being played as intended, and it’s superceeding the entire design of the WvW maps and siege by letting the players do something other than what was intended by the designers.

Hell…if they’re going to ban people for the release karma merchant issues, and snowflake flipping…I wouldn’t be surprised.

So your argument is that they should just.. only fire arrowcarts as far as you think they should be able to?

The camera is the way it is on siege to prevent LOS exploits. How you can think it’s even reasonable for someone to kill siege placed inside a keep by placing an arrow cart right up on the wall and using field of view to exploit LOS is quite amazing regardless of how it is done.

Like I said, we in Abyss do not exploit anything and if someone would it would be against our policy. I’ve taken EB with that commander a dozens of time in the last weeks only using rams, I can’t even remember a time when he placed down a cart.

He has been outspoken against the exploit. That you accuse him of cheating is particularly infuriating to us who have accompanied him and our guild members.

I saw a nice solution to the AC hack this afternoon at DR Garrison. I big kitten char warrior from HIM jumped down and ate the AC alive. Good job (from DH player) and good battle.

‘Nah dawg, I just play on a 30" monitor and bypass game mechanics that way I don’t exploit’ is just something someone says when they actually are exploiting and are making excuses about exploiting. If you are doing anything to bypass game mechanics and remove the challenge from a video game, maybe you shouldn’t be playing video games.

Nice fight at DR garrison… well Everyone… least it sure seemed like everyone from IOJ and DH came to play..

Thank you everyone for coming to Fight Club, loved the fact that people came in an hour early to come, sadly, the new build interrupted us and some did not make it come back; however, It lasted approximately 5 hours and about 50-60 people attended.
