Well, logging in today and pressing B was a very unpleasant experience. Kudos to you, FSP, still no one can tell me wth happened
Let me tell you the tale of how we captured all of EB’s UW side against not just doors (but there were plenty of doors indeed!) but some pretty good resistance to get UW’s keep. We didn’t just steamroll it with golems; we outnumbered you and steamrolled through the towers, but we had to earn the keep.
I joined at about 3AM CET after failing to get to sleep. I was excited to see Qla on the map – he is universally respected by everyone and was voted our server’s best commander last month. He took a break recently so this was his first time commanding since the new matchup, and wow did he earn us a lot of points once again. I think a lot of people decided to stay up longer than usual simply because they knew we’d be kicking some serious kitten.
Qla started by attacking SM – not by ramming or golem rushing SW gate, but by catapulting the NE wall(!) after taking the FR camps so nobody would spot us. He then quickly rammed the inner gate with no resistance. After that, he moved to take Durios while 2 of us split to capture Rogue/Dredge/Speldan, then the zerg moved to take Anza/Mendon.
The entire zerg then followed Qla to UW’s border and we ram-rushed Hills. We were serious about keeping it so I stayed behind with 2 people to scout and was to ask EB for help if needed. What happened next was hilarious – as I was scouting just outside the wall to figure out where a group of 5-6 UWs went after giving up on the outer gate, I just saw the keep flip to blue!
A suspicious man might suspect an exploit, but I’m perfectly willing to believe a mesmer managed to hide close to lordroom as I remember everyone quickly leaving the first wall to mesmer sweep inner… Whoever that was, well played, we’d have seriously defended it otherwise and never had the manpower spare to rush it again, so you earned your team a lot of points!
Anyway, I moved back to the zerg in EB, taking towers from both FR/UW and defending camps (at one point the entire zerg moved back to successfully defend a fully upgraded Golanta from FRs!) until eventually we took Bravost. Then Qla said these wonderful words: “need 600 supply on me”. Qla rarely decides to simply attack a keep – he decides to treb it to oblivion, and he rarely gives up without good reason.
After we got outer down the second time and inner well damaged, we got your supply down to basically nothing, so we did a complete siege sweep. We destroyed everything on the walls, including water gate. We made an arrow cart under the lordroom to kill your last line of defense. You used your last supply to repair outer, so we left and trebbed it down again. I wasn’t there when we finally decided to rush into inner (was still walking back from taking FR camps), but I was there for the cap and we instantly started building both defensive siege and trebuchets for Langor.
We outnumbered UW by about 2:1 I believe (apologies if it was more than that but it’s a honest estimate) but I think we lost our trebs 2-3 times (can’t remember if we lost Bravost entirely as well but I think we did) – you guys definitely tried your best to keep it, but our commander just kept pushing, rebuilding, draining your supply, and killing all your siege until the target is ready, less persistent opponents might have given up!

Also before I forget, big thanks to FR for several really fun small fights during the night defending our camps and taking Speldan, especially those 1v1 and 2v3 when we were both fighting for Dredge at the same time.
Finally as I’m writing this, Qla (who apparently never sleeps, but does occasionally have to eat) just took Bay on FR’s border, so let’s not pretend there’s any alliance or accuse anyone of focusing on single opponents. In fact, let’s not accuse anyone of anything, this thread would would be much better as a result
3am-7am…4hrs of PvD sure sounds fun.
The UW keep certainly wasn’t just PvD, and I think it’s fair to say we would have easily lost if we didn’t have good tactics. Was it a fair fight? No, not really – WvW is rarely fair, especially at night. But we had fun and it was a lot more fair than other cases I’ve seen (it was a lot of fun playing against GH but I won’t miss XAOC golem rushing us with 30+ attackers at 5AM…)
Also when we’re clearly outmanning the enemy, I personally like to spend most of my time doing secondary objectives (camps/npcs/scouting) rather than being part of the zerg. Not only does it bring a lot of points for the server, but I’m more likely to only meet one or two enemies at a time and some fun small fights/duels.
I wish all populations could be balanced all the time (I’m very much in favour of a server-wide queue where one server cannot outnumber another more than by a certain amount across all maps) but as it is let’s make the best of a bad situation and try to have as much fun as possible anyway
Come on guys, banging on about this PvD again, we all do it so what. Name me 1 player that’s gonna turn around and say i dont wanna take that Tower/Keep because they dont have enough to defend it lol (more like thank you for the points and sry to turn ur walls back to paper.)
