I expect to see Purple Dragons out there hunting down the yaks, which means this week’s parade will be an extra challenging thrill ride through the Mist War.

BTW, as for zerg breaking, its all about open field in the higher tiers guys. Many guilds in top tiers in both EU and NA don’t even take towers or keeps, they just do open field fighting.
I can’ speak for all maps, but last night in TCBL and tonight in BGBL, FA is coming at BG, trying new things, playing the chess game that makes open field so much fun.
Just don’t get burnt out TC and FA. Keep it up all week. We’ll see you out there.
Where is BG’s oceanic crew? Are they taking a rest after T1? Part of me was hoping that BG and FA’s oceanic would share points and negate each other out a little bit but at this point it seems like FA’s oceanic are out in force and BG are not.
I would rather have both FA and BG ticking at 250-300 range during oceanic than FA running away with it at 300+ ppt.
Most of the fighting in T3 was open field or trebuchet. There was mass zerg on mass zerg, but nothing that required zerg breaker spam like in this BG/TC/FA match-up. It was mostly frontal warfare. Or I guess more traditional warfare. Not two groups of 50 bombing into one another running zerg breaker builds spamming into the other group. It was more one zerg controlling a zone and detachment forces carrying out objectives. And the zone control zerg progressively working towards a major objective. Much more strategic. I’ve seen in other threads people who have moved down from tier one to lower tiers attesting to this truth. So like I said not a big fan of running a zerg breaker build and mindlessly bombing into another zerg.
The strategic elements are still there that existed in T3 or below. One is simply required to add another layer of GvG / ZvZ combat into it and this is simply because of the coverage difference between T3 and T2/T1. Spec groups that incorporate zerg breaking effectively are organized, knowledgeable and skilled guilds.
After all they are tactics. T3 relied more on the macro 4 map strategy, T2 and T1 incorporate that macro-game with micro spec groups and GvG combat.

We haven’t had anything since the first week of T1, I’ve been on when there might be 15 on all 4 maps during T1. We have a 6 hour span where we can barely hold anything and T1 exposed this to the point of us being spawn camped on all maps. The people we had a month ago held up well enough to hide it but that crew either changed servers or left when BG went into defensive mode. Who really wants to run from Speldons to Pang all night long being timid. Don’t worry, things heat up a little after that stretch then it starts to fade again during NA.
One thing I’ve noticed from FA is that a lot of them seem to be running some pretty scary damage builds. That, when in the right position, they can nuke just about anyone, but when caught unawares or in the open field, things tend to take a turn for the worse. A human ballista if you will.
All servers have to adapt while moving up tiers, as naturally the higher one goes in the tiers, the more heated it becomes, and the faster the meta advances. We experienced a similar thing going into tier 1, our customary style of play being rather detrimental to our lives. If given the opportunity from the rating system, FA too will adapt in time

I think most of us on TC are amazed as well – BG put out some unbelievable oceanic/SEA numbers when it was BG/SoR/TC. At the start of the week I kind of imagined BG and FA’s oceanics waging battle while TC hides in a corner and tries to hold on to stuff during oceanic hours, but what do you know FA goes ahead and beats everyone up. Great showing from FA.
It’s really too bad that this will definitely be our last week in the same tier for possibly quite some time. After the previous 3 weeks of SoR/SBI/TC I think many of us will be happy playing this matchup for the next few months or so >_>
Zerg breaking is gaining as much of a culling advantage as you can, running into the middle of the other zerg with as many boons and invulnerability as you can get, and spamming as much damage as you can.
Frontal warfare is an ebb and flow between two zergs across a front where one trys to gain a positional advantage and make the other zerg use up all its room behind it to wipe it, move it, or commence a siege. The zergs engage or disengage at will. This ballet happens across the map.
So zerg breaking is like frontal warfare minus one dimension. I prefer frontal warfare. Others like immediate annihilation. To each their own I guess.
I could be wrong but I think the developers intended for immediate annilation to only occur in a throne room once a zerg has completely run out of space.

Well, I’m going to put a foot in my mouth so I’m going to open with a disclaimer that I am not the greatest strategist in [RET]. After going up against a particular BG guild who used the new culling mechanics VERY effectively, we changed our strategy and to a lesser extent our composition to compensate. The nature of the comps you are facing is very likely intentional. At the least I can tell you that it is a weakness we are by no means unaware of.

If ye be runnin ‘da right setup, ’dis type o’ build be no problem, because they be not gettin’ any attacks off matey.

My response is your facing the combined forces of IoJ and FA, the two servers that have come third place more often than any other server in the entire NA tier but have stayed mainly in tier 2/3 respectively.
Your going to continue to feel pain and hitting that re spawn button all the way to reset regardless of points that the majority on this server don’t give a doggie about.

I actually think culling is better in that I can see people coming. You fight a force once and you know their relative size, so when you see a few of their tags pop up you can tell they are coming. No, it doesn’t render the entire force, but they don’t see all of your numbers either. And, as a shot in the dark, I have a feeling you’re referring to KnT, and for the record, we don’t abuse culling at all. Our success is based off of scouting and micro that gives our guild the best positioning possible. I’m sure it may seem like a “culling bomb”, but we call that a flank. It honestly seems as though you guys never look anywhere except in front of you.

Had a lot of fun last night figuring out our new enemies, their strengths, weaknesses, response times and ‘testing’ the limits of what we could do against them. Open field combat rolling with the KnT murder ball was largely successful… force them into a corner, they fight like proverbial rats too (and certainly prolific enough!)
Think it was Rendon that summed up their (FA’s elementalists in particular) description as “human ballista’s” and wasn’t far wrong, ouch.
‘Zerg Island rampage’ against Unreal Aussies last night on the briar tower, as one aussie to another… “Sent off, carried off, but never backed off.”

If FA would stop worrying about the castle for a bit and start taking more keeps, towers and supply camps, we could actually chase down BG in points a bit and not let them run away with the match. While yes, the castle is worth the most points, those points are worthless of that’s all we own. We can always take it down again before the way point is purchased. That upgrade takes a long while to get and is really the only great reason to have the castle.
Myself and another FA trebbed the wall down at ogre watch and only one or two other people responded to my call for help taking it back. After no less than 10 minutes of cleaning out the NPC’s with only the 2 or three of us, BG showed up and killed us maybe 5 seconds before the tower would have flipped back to us. That is rediculous.
Hey it’s always nice to see the update pics with the castle in our column, but then looking at the number to the right of the castle icon being much lower than BG or TC I seriously wonder about the priorities of most of our players in EB.
