Finish Them Off....and the Down State
The downed state definitely helps. Maybe our experienced have just been different, but I’ve put many hours into WvW already and I’ve lost plenty of kills and have been saved multiple times thanks to the downed state.
Mainly, it alleviates the issues with bursting people down. Even if 20 people focus you, your allies then have time to react to save you, which is much better than simply insta-death. It also means an attacking force can’t simply spam and run through your group as easily as people don’t instantly drop dead.

As a Thief that can teleport when down to a small distance away in large battles this has saved me multiple times. The Stealth function when down saved me also plenty.

As a thief too thats all i can do try to do it teleport away. but i want to actually be given a chance, even a small chance to throw my daggers or use skills to try to kill someone.
Even as it is now someone with 8% life could come over and finish you off before you could even try attacking to rally.
Another idea could be to make it so you cant be finished off right away maybe a 10 second timer from down before Finish Them Off could be used
For the most part I think that the downed state is fine with a few exceptions, like some profession’s downed state skills being a bit too powerful. But I think the one that frustrate me the most is when a mob was aggroed during the fight and I put the enemy into the downstate and the mob gets killed giving him a free rally…. The rally should only be given out if the killing blow comes from his own world… not the enemy’s.

I personally find the “Finish off” thing really annoying as well. You get no chance to rally, since the enemy will almost instantly come towards you and finish the job – It’s just not fair. Especially so considering that some professions have greater skills while downed than others.
Stealth for instance gives a ton more survival chances than the silly immobilize skill that Ele’s get. Hell, even the Mesmer’s downed skills are more useful than an Ele’s or a Ranger’s – And even those aren’t as “good” as they might seem if the enemy’s there in greater numbers.
Aside from some professions having better downed skills than others, I think the downed state works well. What you have to keep in mind is that if you get downed, it’s because someone beat you down. You’ve already lost, and it’s intended as a small second chance, not a “best two out of three?” mechanic.
If you really had any serious chance to fight back properly when downed, PvP matches would go on forever, with players taking turns to down each other and get back up. The downed state is about as powerful as it can be without completely breaking PvP by making everyone invincible.
Maybe this system would be nice for all classes not just for thief’s . For me as a mesmer is a pain , i remember in BW’s i could choose a sort of safe path to dissapear for few seconds now i randomly dissapear and appear in same proximity witch is bs .
We have classes that get in stealth longer , get up , explode , bounce ppl around…..well mesmer just turns off and on and mostly in same area….
I am only talking from my point of view … it neads to be ballanced for all.

Imo just remove Finish them off and actually attack and kill downed people.

throwing rocks for 1k is a differnt matter, i just dont see the point of downed if you have finish them off. its not in pve……. why cant it be the same in pvp. in most cases you would just be attacked anyways and killed. just seems to me finish them off cancels out the point of teh down state
my opinion the way it should have been designed, is to allow movement like CoD,
while at the same time, preventing instant defeat, but still can be defeated from damage.
Make it so the only way to rally is by killing enemies or from ally rallying you or out of combat.

I had an exciting moment where we pushed from a keep and I was downed. I was able to push a couple back before they finished me and when they came in the 2nd time my allies had caught up and pushed them back.
I think the downed state is a great idea. The questions I think are important is how much should it be buffed/nerfed?

I think the downstate should be buffed. For one I think that everyone should have the warrior #3 AND it should be 100% chance of rally on kill within the time-frame without any trait just like it would be from downed.
You made a bad choice or got out played or pushed to far past your team, you lost all your HP (aka dead) and as such you should be, remove the downed state from WvW, keep it in PvE since most there like it. If I win a fight I see no reason this person should be able to be given a 2nd chance or enough time for someone else to come and help. Once you reach 0HP, you are dead, 100%.
Without downed state they will not sell enough finishers in the cash shop, so personally I never see it being removed for that reason.
I used to hate the downed mechanic, but now I really dont mind it and think it actually adds to the tactical element of a fight.
Just learn to live with it, it’s really not so bad.
Downed state is fine as it is, stop whining.

Why ever do you think you deserve any more “chance to fight back” than you already have? Did you not have a chance to fight back when you weren’t downed?
Downed state is already too strong. If you’re downed, you got beaten. Accept it. Don’t cry for yet more ways for the game to hold your hand, that you want the enemy to have to defeat you twice before you go respawn. The downed state as it is is already more than you deserve.

Lol if you go down, it means that player wasn’t good enough to be playing at that time to win the fight. You should be lucky that you even get a 2nd chance.

That would have been better indeed. ‘Downed’ should work as a sort of ‘Wounded’ system rather than being a sack lying on the ground waiting to get a banner through your chest.
Downed itself is something we can not miss. It is one of the only anti-zerg tools we have atm. Bursting players down happens all the time because of the broken non-trinity model of the game.
I like the downed state. It is a fairly original idea implemented in an MMORPG style of PvP.
However, what I would like to see changed are rally mechanics and downed skills adjustments.
I would like to see rally limited to 1 downed person rallying of off 1 kill and limit its range to 900 for example. Not to have between 5-20 people magically pop up with half their health, all condis removed and CDs reset because somewhere 1/4 way across the battle field another person is getting killed.
I would also like to see some balance across the professions with regards to downed skills as many professions downed skills are far more effective then others, for example underwater ranger pet rezz or thief teleports.
Also, while at it, add an internal rezz CD or some such mechanic to how many times a player and / or NPC such as a keep / castle / tower lord can be bannered in a row, since it is a related issue.
Other then that, leave it as is.
Personally, i find them both; Finish Them Off….and the Down State as a Worthless mechanic in this game.

oh wait! i forgot, only 2 worthless skills are automatically available to us. So…by the time the other worthy skills are activated, available, we are already dead.

Seriously, these ridiculous mechanics totally SHAME Guild Wars. What kitten me off is how they intentionally used Guild Wars name to leverage guild wars 2.
Which to me is cruel and heartless.
In conclusion rally does a better job, so why not implement rally instead?
Let me add one thing, Everything that were good in guild wars, are thrown in the garbage in guild wars 2. Everything that were thrown in the garbage by guild wars, are implemented in guild wars 2.

It’s a way of giving more power to greater numbers. You get downed and have more players you’ll have a higher chance of being ressed up by allies in a second (since the healing is so stupidly strong). This means the larger forces are even harder to take down. Don’t even get me started on rally mechanics. Why you would intentionally want to do this to this extent… idk.
The downed states are also highly unbalanced. Ele has the best downed state (prevents the first stomp attempts 100% of the time). Close behind are Mes/thief… then there is a large drop down to guard/ranger who at least get aoe interrupts on down… then another large drop down to war/eng/necro who are usually just free kills once downed since they can only interrupt a single player when downed.
This is rubbish. It’s 3 kitten skills (4th is a universal heal). Balance it.
