If "reflects projectiles" worked on siege...
I do remember when retaliation worked on siege.
Much like how it was with retaliation, siege would be completely worthless against any organized group.
I don’t feel it would be good for the game for siege to be worthless if there is just 1 or 2 people on the opposing team who know what they are doing.
It was crap before, it be crap again.
The retaliation point above is exactly right. Seige would be made completely worthless (more than it already is in some situations). Basically you would shoot 5 times and it be dead. Hell with the zerg fest at the moment an arrowcart would die in a single salvo if retaliation still affected them
No one is talking retaliation. Reflects.
Anything that can be reflected could be reflected back…
If reflects worked against siege, then I’d sit back and be amused as 20 treb shots would be ping-ponged through the air since not one fiery ball of destruction would ever reach the ground.
Sorrow’s Furnace
Trebbing your own wall to the ground by constantly firing treb shots into an axe/axe ranger?
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

I think you missed the part where I was comparing it to retaliation. In a comparison kind of way.
To simplify my statements further though.
If reflects worked on siege, I and some proportion between 1% and 10% of the WvW population would play the class that could reflect best and we would ensure no serious threat would ever come to our important objectives. ever.
Your siege would all be dead (yes, ALL of it) within a few shots at my tower and everyone would be crying for the change to be reverted within hours of the patch.
Imagine if swirling winds destroyed the siege it was blocking. That is pretty much what you are asking for and it would pretty much mean anything but a flame ram would be useless in WvW.

OK, So you’re going to treb Bay we’ll say. The other guys station a couple rangers, guardians, etc. to reflect. You counter with a few reflectors yourself to reflect what’s reflected back.

Imagine the pretty fireballs lighting up the sky! IT WOULD BE AWESOME. Or terrible, ya know, one of the two…
That’s not how reflections work. Once something has been reflected it can’t be reflected again.
I can’t imagine how anyone would think it’s a bright idea to make siege ineffective in WvW. Blocks are one thing … reflects are quite another.

Now, that’s too bad, although with siege it could behave differently… I wonder if it could be absorbed however?

It wouldn’t make them ineffective. It would, however, make using certain siege more planned out. If you want to treb Bay from Garrison you need to make sure they’re not down there reflecting. If you’re going to fire ballistae into a crowd you may want to consider that ground targeted AoE and hold off on using “3” until you see what you’re up against. It wouldn’t affect arrowcarts. Cats would face minimal impact, but that one guy that sacrifices himself to jump off the wall for a quick reflect (unless the cats are hitting halfway up the wall…) could have a tale to tell after.
The only strong effects you’d see are with trebuchets firing from perfectly safe locations. They’d either have to be careful when shooting or have their own defenses in place to catch reflected shots. Cats and ballista would see nominal affects more in line with a reflect here and there. Cat firing would require better aim to get above the guardian, for example, to hit the wall… or your group keeps the wall clear in the target zone.
The “siege would be worthless” argument is grossly exaggerated.

Elementalist Focus 4: Swirling Winds destroys projectiles from trebs and catas.

It’s a dumb idea, and saying it isn’t three times doesn’t change the fact that it’s a dumb idea. A reflect back to a treb would take it out in a couple of minutes … same with catas or ballistas … and part of what you seem to think would be such a neat addition is already available to elementalists with Swirling Winds. Instead of players having to actually fight their way close enough to take out a treb or cata all they’d have to do is sit back and turtle. How does that in any way add cleverness or difficulty or balance to a match?
It’s a dumb idea.

Oh stahp moaning Mr Cactus, all he’s saying is that it would be cool if… Etc. no need have a tantrum over harmless speculation, so he wasn’t around in beta days, so what?
@VOLKON I think it would stop the trebuchet-firing from fortifications a bit, or with a possible increase on the siege cap you could have 6 Trebuchets in once location firing in a spread shot formation anything reflected comes back in one place, nice and easy to re-reflect
especially if you synchronised firing.
It would add some lulz to WvW at least and mix up gameplay a little, maybe make some people think more creatively, maybe better to do this as an April Fools than a permanent thing though from the people’s attitudes; it’s more fun than effective.

I would love to play multi-ball volleyball between the garrison trebs and bay wall… it would be like a WvW mini game where the first person to make a mistake dies and ends up with a repair bill.
