For all practical purposes some of these are impossible to achieve.

IMO, 500k Stonemist defenses is impossible except in theory. People who think it’s a long term goal are deceiving themselves. Even the 2.8 years theoretical “best” time is way, way too generous.

To defend SMC every 3 minutes your team not only has to be holding SMC but it also has to be under attack non-stop.

Even if someone treated GW2 like a job and played it 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and your team somehow held SMC 50% of the time while it was constantly under attack, it would still take 24 years to get 500k defenses.

GW2 servers will be long gone before that ever happens.

They are meant to be long-term achievements that very few people, if any, get. It’s why they’re called “Ultimate . . .”

I dont think you quite understand how completely impossible it is.

This isnt long term
this is Anet will have shut down the GW2 servers before anyone gets them

You never played GW1 did you? Those servers have been up for seven years, with no mention of going down any time soon. R15 Hero took people years, did you ever see anyone whine about that? No.

Since it seems a lot of people forgot about this title, or more likely never even knew about it, let me break it down.

“You would need to win 2,509 times consecutively to gain the 100,000 fame needed to max this title. This would take over 500 hours of holding Halls.”

Since that never happened, we’ll assume an average group of high ranked players would hold halls 5 times consecutively. For the purpose of an ideal situation, we’ll also assume this group jumped to halls with only one prior fight. Winning the first fight nets you 1 fame, then the first halls win would net you 3, the second 6, the third 10, the fourth 16, and the fifth 24, for a total of 60 fame a run. That’s 1667 runs about, figuring wait time for matches of at least 30 seconds, and a match time of at least 10 minutes comes out to around 98353 minutes, 1639 hours, 68 days, or around 2 and a half months of constant playing to achieve the title.
This is an idealized situation, in reality it took considerably longer than that. It took the first person to get it somewhere around 3 years 4 months.

So are these titles slightly illogical? Sure. Impossible? No, just really time consuming. It’s likely they’ll be adjusted in the future anyway.
Tl;dr: Titles that take long periods of time aren’t out of the norm in Guild Wars, in my opinion, Hero in GW1 was harder to get than any of the WvW titles.

I did play gw1. Check your math there. It requires 2 and a half months of continuous perfect play right?
Yeah go check mine earlier up on the thread. Try 2.8 YEARS of perfect play. You’re arguing that a GW1 title was hard, and thus we shouldnt complain, despite it being literally THIRTEEN times EASIER and SHORTER than one of these titles.

So yeah. Re-think your math there. This isnt “impossible” in that only a few people in the world will get it. This is impossible in the fact that it is literally not kittening possible. If it took 3-4 years to get 2 1/2 months worth of perfect play, then it would take 30+ years to get the SMC title.

It’s sad. People are complaining that “lifetime” achievements take too long. Perhaps this is just the usual sense of Entitlement that causes this. Just like the complaints that Legendary weapons take too long to get.

In GW1, Dragon Rank 15 was only achieved by a handful of players. Epic PvPers like Starcraft, Red, Bloupy, etc. Just because the max rank is there, doesn’t mean everyone will be able to earn it.

But what about comparatively with PvE achievements. Most of those are terribly easy to get in a short period of time. Why is it that the WvW achievements are exclusively things that you have to give up real life for?

No, challenging titles is the idea. You whining that they need to be adjusted isn’t going to change anything. You can bet money that ANet is already aware of this. Are you aware the WvW update is next month? Wait until then, if their still the same, whine about it then.

According to the wiki its 100k kills for Ult dominator. I myself have 27k kills in wvw, I did wvw everyday 2 months after the game came out until now. So the title seems possible to obtain within a couple year period.

I love how some people are saying “oh you’re just entitled whiners, some things should be hard to get”. Yeah, there’s hard, and then there’s literally impossible.

Realm Avenger is hard, the average player would have to keep playing for about 8-10 years to get it, while the most skilled and committed players might achieve it in less than 2 years. That is a reasonable level of difficulty for a “hard” achievement.

Then there are other achievements where there is a very high probability of you dying before you ever achieve them, even if you’re a committed player currently in your teens, who consciously tries for them. That is an unacceptable level of difficulty.

Can you not see the difference?

Look at how old this thread is. I made this thread months and months ago. Someone recently bumped it. So your point about the wvw update is moot.

Challenging is fine. Titles taking 3,5, heck even 7 years is fine. Titles taking THIRTY years? Not fine.

These are in the same vein as the GW1 PvP achievements, which people did eventually get. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh6vTZa_7mk

Also watching that really makes me miss GW1.

I didn’t play GW1. What’s weird is after watching the video how good the characters look. I played DAOC for years and GW1 toons look similar. You could actually make out how someones features, armor, colors and recognize them from a distance.

I find the characters in GW2 to be much less recognizable than either GW1 or DAOC.

Wouldn’t before the updates be the smarter idea? I mean, by all means Anet most probably hasn’t really run the math on some of these achievements and bring it up before a patch might be exactly what is needed.

People were comparing the titles to GW1, which raises a good point:

Even though R15 took YEARS, you were able to display your current rank as a title!

That, is what I would love to see as a change, to be able to display the progression of these “ultimate” titles, just like in GW1. You could display titles starting at some set progression point (R4 for faction titles I believe).

Everybody who is flying off the tracks here, start breathing into your paper bags.

1) GW, the first game, also had some achievements that took years to accomplish, and even that was a stretch at times. IMO, to alleviate that ANet introduced bonus weekends, where points accumulated were double. Nothing preventing them from adding the same to GW2. See banners.
2) These super-long term achievements might not have been planned through all the way, and rather than setting the bar too low (100 SM defenses = ultimate) they erred on the high side, which can be tweaked down later. Better to award a title to a whole bunch of people at the same time than having to take them away. The only guy who’s gonna be kitten is the one who ground out that one title, and now 10 people have it and you can’t tell that he got there first.
