[WäR] Warband of Absolute Retribution
Borlis Pass
Tried to have fun with these guys tonight when they invaded our Bay keep. They didn’t want to play. Anyone know this guild?
Look at the post above yours. They’re a good guild on Maguuma. If you want to play, they’re receptive to setting up fights sometimes.
I saw this guild today. http://komica42.dreamhosters.com/99/src/1359516213750.jpg
You should really consider switching to natural colors for WvW.
As far as the picture goes, that was during our daily completion run. All we had left to do was crafting. We were nearby and too lazy to waypoint to another map, so we figured Dragonbrand might be willing to share their crafting stations with us. We all completed our dailies, although some of you were against the idea of sharing.
Honestly getting quite tired of the FA zergs — it makes for a boring and frustrating WvW. GL in T2, leave T3 to us.
Looks like Mag finally said hours of defending and sieging against large numbers like FA just isn’t fun and said kitten it.
For me the bottom line is that it is not fun to have to use swirling winds to drag out the conflict for a keep. The meta has switched to one where you have to have many trebs and many eles doing swirling to do what is necessary to win. This means you are taking a large chunk of players out of actually doing anything but the most monotonous job in the game and forcing them to do that for a long time.
You then have to dedicate people to defend your respective trebs/swirls and sit back as you wait for things to change. If you send too many people off to do something else, you risk your defensive/offensive positions being overrun. I personally feel that swirling winds and all other forms of siege projectile blocks need to be removed. It is simply boring and stopped me from caring about playing today and probably the rest of the week.

It is a very interesting dynamic. But ain’t nobody got time for dat.
I agree that Anet should look into it. WvW should be fun for someone who plays it for 1 hr to 12hrs. And if all people get to do is sit on trebs or stand next to them swirling wind blocking and it adds a lengthy amount of time to siege something… gets boring quickly.
Better to get bored and do something else than get burned out and quit forever – it’s a game and the point is to have fun. The best scenario from this matchup has always been to lose so that our glory chasers quit and we return to a tier we’re more suited to.
Putting ourselves into an intentional freefall to exit this tier may not be a bad idea. We’re up against Kaineng next week if we stay here anyway.
We are suited for this tier. FA probably is better than T3 now. In fact I believe there may be 4 T1 servers, 4 T2 servers (quality or number wise)… and DB and us are T3 material and we will get stuck with Kain (who may or may not be really good).
T4 isn’t the same. People don’t seem to recognize that. CD was gutted before server xfers for free went away. Yaks didn’t seem to be the same anymore. Moving backwards probably would be boring and people would find other stuff to do.
If you look at the scoreboard… this is not really all that different from when Yaks and others were really strong in T4.
And, also, we aren’t having queues as badly right now and still are remaining within reach of DB.
I been having loads of fun this match up. And from what I have heard from others on public mumble and Pyro mumble, a lot of were enjoying this too.
Probably the least fun match up for anyone on Maguuma who plays during the oceanic primetime.
R u for real? Did I say anything about points? You know what ima stick around and let you “Get off our server” types know what gamesmanship is about. I dont care if we win or lose as long as we are trying. The fun is in the battles. Throwing matches is not fun to me and really unsportsmanlike in my opinion.
Nobody is throwing the match. Christ. The regulars stick around no matter what. We want players who have a sense of humour, who can take a loss on the chin because its not the end of the world and who are with us even when we are down 400,000 points like we were against SoS 2.0. We don’t want players who have a rough night in EB and think “Its over. Time to move server”
This is nothing compared to what we have faced before. So if you are having second thoughts about whether Mags is “the right place” for you, then it probably isn’t.

Actually there is going to be a reset so there is no reason to want to or try to lose. In my opinion there never is a reason for either anyway. By the way the 28th was yesterday so that would have been a better day to play like tonight if that was anyone’s goal.
Gotta appreciate the little victories. Had a couple fun hours in FA borderlands last night.
Paralda and friends walked into the hole in West keep just as it flipped to FA or DB, can’t remember which., then catapulted the inner wall down.
Good times.

Please reread my posts. What frustrated me is not losing the match or losing keeps or towers that happens and it happens lots. I also dont give a whit which tier i play in as long as it is somewhat competitive for all three servers, blowouts for any side is just not fun.
As for wanting to force off bandwagoners to get to a tier we should be in there is a reset coming and what happens in this matchup will have no bearing but it is quite apparent that many didnt know that. But it is a good thing because the last tier we were in we dominated and that was nowhere near as challenging or fun as this week.
Maybe some just want to be in a tier they can dominate without really trying then. I dunno what any other reason would be to want to drop tiers instead of just doing our best and letting the points decide who goes up and who goes down now that paid transfers are at an end.
Probably the least fun match up for anyone on Maguuma who plays during the oceanic primetime.
Only tonight brother I had a blast the other nights. We lost lots to be sure but we managed to at least hold on to the top half of our map and the Gar.
About 80 percent of effectiveness in WvW is mobilizing siege equipment and supply, by my estimate. So if you don’t like strategically placing siege and building it with supply whether to attack or defend, you’re not going to enjoy competitive WvW.
The nice thing about WvW is that it has a lot of different roles for a lot of different play styles. It is the coordinating of those roles that makes for competitive WvW.

What I’m saying is that nobody should burn themselves out defending 10 hour sieges just to get nightcapped when they go to bed and decide never to log in again. Ranking reset is not the same as ranking scramble, our position in the new rankings next week will be based on our performance this week.
Anyway, even if you were correct and our performance this week is completely irrelevant then there’s even less reason to spend your time on mind numbing sieges that you’re not enjoying. I don’t want us to lose any of our best players spinning our wheels here just to lose it all over night.
There seems to be an unwritten policy on Maguuma. I’ve seen people follow it from commanders to pugs, and I’m highly in favor of it:
If what is going on in the WvWvW is pushing you to rage, bail.
I believe the understanding is that we’d rather see you back tomorrow, or next week, than have you rage and break relationships with others on the server, or just lose all taste for the game.
Gotta appreciate the little victories. Had a couple fun hours in FA borderlands last night.
Paralda and friends walked into the hole in West keep just as it flipped to FA or DB, can’t remember which., then catapulted the inner wall down.
Good times.
Finally some recognition! Bunzy can get 3 pages dedicated to him wiping at a supply camp and I barely get a mention after taking two keeps and almost taking a fully upgraded garrison three times. TriM and the other guilds of Legion alliance were a great help, as well, not to mention all the others who helped us out, like DFND.
I see a lot of people complaining about fun, but PYRO has been out every night with 10-15 people zergbusting or making things happen. This match up is what we make it.

To clarify I categorize a zerg of 50+, which is what was required to take EK in Mag bl last night from 20 or so Maguumans. RET and BT groups numbering 20+ each easily plus your randoms. Took you all awhile to break into lord room but when you finally decided to hell with it and just rush the lord room I nearly lagged out and you all capped it.
No need to fret my bros. Get some sleep, wake up and take all the maps back. It’ll be like the old days.
Maguuma stopped worrying about BT a few days ago.
edit: I feel bad that FA will never know how truly boring a “huge lead” actually is.

Oh don’t worry dude, with the score resets coming and the volatile rankings that will happen for the next two months, I’m pretty sure we’ll see at least one.
You have to understand this is only the 2nd match that FA has won in like 10 weeks.

I think most of Mag, like everyone else, avoids forums. The only people really interested in a thread like this are passive aggressive specialists who try to see how much their “gotcha” comments can ruffle feathers.
And the truth of the matter is this kind of behavior really only negatively affects the person intending harm, it does nothing to the intended recipients.
Be a good sportsman and congratulate your peers instead of participating in this drivel.

We’re well aware actually. A review of our match history on mos shows that we bounced around being steam-rollers to steam-rolled until we settled into tier 3. In fact, the only close one I can recall prior to this stay in T3 was Vs. Maguuma.
Tier 3, Tier 4, Tier 3, Tier 5, Tier 4, Tier 4, Tier 3 FOREVER.
e: and this isn’t even close to a steam roll, DB and Mag are sitting over 100k.

It’s true, maguuma found the counter to us…. hide in keeps when we hit prime time and record videos of 4 of 8 getting killed by 20 to scream victory on forums. The match has been boring since that vid…. the fights have been few and far between which is sad considering a dead server(CD) put up a better fight than maguuma has this week.

I felt bad watching you guys die last night…. awesome guild. I miss picking off randoms you used to string out when you were on FA.

It was pretty funny listening to people scream about Mag being in our citadel. I told them to relax, you can’t be hurt so what does it matter? And at that point we had a pretty frantic defense of Bay going on against Mag and FA.

I think you’re being a little bit silly if you think this is true.
I don’t think it has anything to do with the vid by any means, but the match has gone downhill fast and even CD stuck it out better than this. Their points may have been lower, but it wasn’t from lack of effort.

So your servers are stacked with more asian guilds than our night time australians can cope with, what’s your point? It’s gone down hill for maguuma because we get night capped so badly – we earnt our position in this tier without nightcapping, but now we’re stuck with a bunch of people who climbed the ranks by doing just that.
It’s just not possible to compete without a couple of big asian timezone guilds and we have zero.
I guess it won’t be until your next matchup that you realise how badly the culling updates have hurt your guild’s tactics. Turns out that running around in a great big ball isn’t so effective when people see you coming and slap down a few stun fields in your way.
It’s ironic, because during the first day of the matchup we were actually avoiding BT. Now we’ve worked out how to easily roll over you, you accuse us of hiding

Here I was thinking the culling is worse

Its all in good fun, we didn’t feel bad when we wiped you, no reason you should feel bad wiping us. Though RET flanking us while we were fighting you was a bit mean
Yeah major shout outs to AoN, loved you guys on FA, and it’s a pleasure fighting you now.
Fantastic guild.
Not sure why maguuma defends north supply so heavily, 1 day we will figure out how to break through your 5 ballistas and 3 arrow carts!

Seems people have a lack of respect :s get jumped by some guy in the jump puzzle, down him and let him live (didn’t even kick him off his ledge) then continue on.. I slip on a jump and as I’m running back to start the area again the first thing this guy does is jumps straight at attacking me (this time he has another player with him) downs and finishes me.
I know its PvP in a PvP zone and I expect it.. there should just be some level of mutual respect, I mean I let him live (evidentally was a mistake) you’d think someone with an ounce of respect would leave you be, dog move but meh.
And to the person earlier saying AVTR are spawn campers first look at where it is, that camp is an objective of the game, one which you guys were spawn rushing to prevent our cap.. us advancing on the portal was to secure our cap of the camp and no more, we leftafter it had flipped and we finished the remaining opposition.
How do I know this? I was there, and to be honest I’d appreciate you not spreading such kitten rumors about guilds because you died from a legitimate cap.

Its funny how people ate getting the phrases “zerg” and “zerg mentality” confused. We all zerg plain and simple just some more and do it more consistently. To deny you have a zerg when you have 3:1 odds is a farce. Just because your organized doesn’t mean it’s not a zerg. I for one enjoy the fights outside of west keep in mag but was just floored at the numbers it took for you all yo take EK.
And most of Mag doesn’t post on the forums yes, but many of the core leaders and players browse them. The only real negative posts ate the ones that some post that are obviously deliberately trying to ruffle peoples feathers. And even those should be taken with a grain of salt because it’s easy to see what the poster is trying to accomplish.

Dunno. Old Maguuma had their chance against FA back in the day, neither had night time coverage.. It’s a bit of a stretch to say Maguuma got in the tier they are now without transfers. It’s not really a stretch to say that for FA – we’ve been here. For a loooong time. I think FA earned the right to stay in T3 and we have shown that to CD, YB, TC, DB and IoJ.
With no “big asian timezone” guilds. We beat SoS when they were rising up too, although it was incredibly close, so I guess it is possible to be competitive; just don’t expect to dominate the tier easily..

In fairness to them, we were constantly slamming in to their backside to help you guys out. Had you held out a bit longer, we could have killed enough to force the wipe. In the end it was just too many, but it wasn’t just you guys fighting them.

Totally, I’m not saying you don’t have the right to be in T3 – you do, and if it wasn’t for Kaineng I’d say you were a T2 server – but Maguuma isn’t really able to compete in T3 because we don’t coverage over night. FA doesn’t dominate over night either, but you’re able to hold your own far better than we can – I mean hell, right now we have 10 points according to the millennium website (I’m at work so I can’t check first hand).
With DB it’s the opposite problem – they seem to get destroyed during the day and nightcapping is where they get the majority of their points.
Sad fact about the top tiers is that servers without big asian/oceanic guilds can’t survive. FA will probably experience a similar thing if they stay in T2 long enough to face Kaineng – at least you can give DB a run for their money during off hours in T3 to keep your head above water and give yourselves a chance to get a decent lead during the day.
The irony is that we can field a consistent 10, and on good nights, 20, WvW players. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being able to do that. It really isn’t FA’s problem that you can’t organize yourselves into fighting groups. So when you get overrun by a coordinated and dedicated group, you quickly cry out the Z word like you were asking for a fair fight in an open battlefield. It’s WvWvW, there are objectives. Our objective is to take camps, towers, keeps. We don’t really care that you were standing around killing a single guard. We’ll be running by and stomp you on the way. Wrong place, wrong time. Tears of QQ ‘zerg’ QQ won’t change our approach or attitude towards WvWvW. We play to win. Our determination will see us through. We’ll let the score board do the talking. Looking forward to next week.
Good luck to Maguuma and Dragonband. To those that fought, even more so. To the forum warriors, your tears are delicious.
Good that you actually want to try to beat the T1-2 ‘gods’. We’re still working on trying to retrain the MASSIVE amount of transfers/ pubbies to understand the way maguuma works so it’s prolly going to take us a month or so to break them in. A lot of us, however, are more interested in the loot bags so I would like to take this time to thank the stragglers in enemy zergs for feeding me badges Btw, still need more intel on where i can find Tolbhrin. I want my Tolbhrin finisher achievement~!
Be a good sportsman and congratulate your peers instead of participating in this drivel.
Nice fights last night.
Likewise. I mourn the loss of your players to another server, but I enjoy the fights against you. Heck of a fun time. Seems to be equal fat lips when we see eachother,!
Ehmry Bay, Dark Haven and ESPECIALLY Crystal Desert used to rag on Maguuma all the time because we didn’t play to win. We told them, “you guys are using numbers, which isn’t a bad thing. But you need to play smarter, not harder.” But then they would say “we’ll let the scoreboard to the talking” or “why would we take advice from the server in last place?”, something that I am hearing in this very thread. It’s not they never heard the saying winning isn’t everything.
FA reminds me so much of CD. Instead of trying to get all the transfers we could and winning as hard as we could, Maguuma focused on having fun and our community. Now look where those servers are at… not their tier, but their current situation.
There’s nothing wrong with playing to win, but it doesn’t come without its flaws. Fair weather players will not stick around to see you through defeats, and when the wheels of drama start turning, oh boy! Not saying the same thing will happen to FA, but the forum warriors who are here to trot around the score should read some old CD threads. Because it’s so alike.
Oh I know it wasn’t just us fighting them. I was calling out pushes in mumble outside WK when I saw reports of AoN on the beach. I even messaged Convenant and said hey come have some fun at Mag EK. In the end though they had enough to bullrush lord room and leave enough outside to fight AoN.
Not sure why maguuma defends north supply so heavily, 1 day we will figure out how to break through your 5 ballistas and 3 arrow carts!
Alot of it is to do with instilling good behaviour. If I want players to do something instinctively I use repetition. Over time it becomes an automatic reaction.
The centre of north supply camp is less than 10 seconds away from our invulnerable zone and we have a waypoint near it which can never be contested. A defender should never really lose it and you should always save it unless you are under serious pressure from both attacking servers. When fully upgraded its a 250/250 supply source and that matters if you lose the southern supply camps but need to make a supply intensive offensive or defensive (i.e. with golems or trebuchets).
Defending north supply on a home borderland is good behaviour to instill and it is especially important for resets. On reset the north supply camp is the only supply camp a defender can realistically hold but the automatic defense is something you can drill during the week.
Theres a whole bunch of behaviours I like to drill informally by repeating them over and over (even when it is not strictly necessary), because it is simply best practice. For instance, I always remind people to hop on/hop off siege weapons if they are passing nearby them so they can be used for another 30 minutes. I do this even when a keep or tower or supply camp is not in any iminent threat. Over time players instinctively do it so you never have to worry about siege weapons expiring. You never have to memorize when a siege weapon was last refreshed.
I insist on players using cardinal directions in mumble, even if I know what Astralholme is. The more players using cardinal directions, the quicker they can respond to contested objectives because they automatically waypoint and run. They do not need to open the map and check the name.
Maguuma doesn’t have large guilds like GODS, RET and BT (they may not be large compared to guilds on other servers but they are enormous compared to most Maguuma guilds which can rarely field more than 10 players at any one time). This is why you almost always see random guild tags whenever you engage us in large numbers. Don’t let the random guild tags fool you though. A large proportion of the players in any borderland are in the same voip server and have had alot of good behaviour drilled into them to the point where it is automatic.
Because of the way our server comms are structured, we don’t designate guilds to any particular task. We don’t have “raid nights”. If people are on they are on and we make do with what we have.
We can at times have upwards of 60 people in a single voip channel and if theres alot of core players on we can split our forces up into multiple teams of any size on the fly and reform them at will. You can think of an entire borderland team as almost being one gigantic guild. It takes alot of time to drill good behaviour into comms so that 60 people do not talk over each other, be creepy mouth breathing weirdos and generally act the maggot.
Yesterday there was a DNS issue with our mumble server and we didn’t realize for a couple of hours until people started complaining they couldn’t join in team chat. There was alot of lollygagging and too much idle chatter imho. But that is to be expected when our server experiences a sudden increase in WvW population. Over time it will correct itself as long as core players set good examples and instill good behaviour.
The general attitude of long time Maguuma players is that we are not overly concerned about what tier we are in because over time we will rest in the tier we were meant to be in. If only large guilds would stop transferring to other servers, stacking the bracket and distorting glicko historical data that informs future matchups.
I am perplexed about this talk of “deserving” to be in tier 3 or “not trying hard enough” to be in tier 3. Glicko rating is strongly correlated to WvW population and timezone coverage. You can try to be in a tier that you don’t have population and timezone coverage to compete in but its really pointless.
I think alot of us are just more interested in playing the game well. If we are outnumbered 2 to 1 theres nothing we can really do about that. It is likely we will lose everything over night but if I’m at work I can’t control it. I’d much rather be proactive in the game when I’m actually in the game. I try to ensure there is no hostility in mumble and that people don’t get too rowdy or encourage bad behaviour because I want people to log in the next day and the day after that because playing GW2 is fun. If its not fun theres really no reason to even be here.

The success of a guild is not indicative of the success of a server. Nor is the success of a server indicative of the quality of any single guild.
I would say the success of a server in WvW is mostly indicative of which server can field continual fully queued maps for 24 hours.
