Most annoying class to deal with in WvW?
I’d love to see population trends. I bet thieves started out as maybe 6% of the population and now are more like 20%.
Well by perfect distribution of 8 professions you’d get 12.5 % each, but I’m pretty sure thieves started around 15 % on the polls on release (third place behind warrior/elementalist)
Thieves.
Mesmers at least have somewhat lesser damage output, Thieves have top rate DPS and survivability/escape/mobility. Add on that their survivability is multiplied by rendering/culling issues, and yeah.. there’s a reason I’m leveling my thief alt.
A good skilled D/D ele. Pretty much any skilled class is annyoing.
I’m really surprise people still saying thieves.

Really, that much stealth and that much dps shouldn’t come together.
Even if I’d like too to see a cap on mesmer’s portal or something like that, I can live with it. Illusions are not a matter when you learn to see what’s what.
But thieves…
And please, don’t keep telling us we need to l2p to counter uberpermastealth thieves (to distinguish them from good stealth thieves that do nothing to abuse the rendering problem), there’s plainly something broken about that.

I love that skill they have that makes them not appear for at least 3 seconds while they’re attacking you. Then you see some form of them appearing , and they’re already gone.

EDIT: I love what someone said up top… I just ALT-F4 on them.. that is gonna be my new defense to them

Reason: Thieves and Mesmers are easy going, they have low resistance and going down fast.
Guardians have ugly defense-skills and kann heal up their live completely felt about 2-3 times. and after some time all your skills are on cd and then the guardian plays easy with you in close combat.
(But if we take a look at war winning skills: mesmer portal)

I feel like that guy in the movie trying to take on the giant and I punch them and they stand there with their hands crossed across their chest smiling at me before they pick me up by my face.

I play a full support thief and glass cannon thieves are a joke. Most of them unload on you in their first skills then are initiative starving.
The trick to survive them is simple, toughness and vitality.
If most of your utility skills are DPS skills you are doing it wrong. You need survivability, you need to use combos in order to survive.
It’s not the surviving that’s all of the issue, the other part is how good thieves are at escaping, so if their attacks don’t kill you, they usually can get away scott free to laugh again another day.
So how many thieves do you think will reroll if and when the rendering issues are fixed ? I’m guessing at least 50%. Then those rerolls will complain that the new class they play needs a buff because they actually died.
Thief. Stealth thief seems to be pop now. They can’t kill anybody but they stab you couple times and flee.

I think you’re pretty spot on.
I rolled a thief to abuse the crap out of the OP ezmode ganker nature of it until culling is fixed. Then I can go back to my main class and actually enjoy what I’m playing. I have never ever had a class able to go into wvw and take on a group of 7 people (4 80’s rest were upleveled), kill 3 people (the upleveled ones) complete with spikes and bag retrieval and get away as a level 30 until I made this thief and abused the holy crap out of stealthing as a P/D + shortbow build. Only part about it that requires any thought is making sure to restealth as soon as the revealed debuff goes away in order to make sure you’re never ever visible while attacking. So kitten easy it’s disgusting.

I like all the thiefs saying they never die to other thiefs. I wonder why, maybe because shadowstep means you can’t be cc and the auto attack on a thief dodges 70% of incoming attacks. They should have a big thief battle royal and see what happens. Even without the rendering glitch, thief is the best class.
mobility, damage and survivability all in one. Even their downed skills are much better than most other classes.
I don’t know how people don’t realize this but even when a thief is not a glass cannon, they can still down people wearing full vitality/toughness gear in about 10 seconds.
Not only that but teleporting in and stun with first hit is just stupid. I mean, I see the thief. Im trying to prep for the defense but he gets to choose exactly when to engage and chain 15k damage before I can do anything when Im wearing full tank gear. This doesn’t down me and I can still kill the thief afterward IF THEY ARE kitten but they get any signal of danger and just gtfo.
If I wasn’t built to bunker with conditional damage the thief would just instantly kill me. The fact that I was still means its a tie. I can’t do anything about him and he is free to either try his luck again or prey on someone else. No other class can tie or win every time.
Thiefs have the most speed in wvw since elementalists can’t just ride the lightning across the map like in spvp and they are the class that can burst the easiest even without specing for glass cannon. They can run away from every other class but other thiefs, and maybe engineers with the right specs.
Now thief >= every other class.
hmmmmmmm. I wonder how come other classes can’t just say nope if they are hard countered? Why is it that a 100b warrior dies 5 seconds after he rushes me but a thief will just keep on walking doing the same if not more damage?
Stealth thieves. They do no significant dmg, but they stealth and heal so they never die…all they do is distract you, so I just walk away from them…this has happened to me so many times.
Thieves prey on glass cannons or underlevels, the best thief I’ve seen is a tanky evasive S/P thief. If you have full berserkers you’re a snack for Thieves…get some toughness

As far as nerfing the thief class … I don’t agree, right now they are fine (rendering is the issue not the class) once the rendering is fixed then we will know if they truly need a nerf or not. I still think half the thieves will quit their class once it is fixed and they have to actually fight players that can see them.

Stealth-Thieves= Non-factor…ignore and move on, they’ll trackstar eventually
Mesmer=Versatile…moderately annoying
D/D Ele= Non-factor…5 seconds of glory + 30 seconds of trackstar= all gimmick for the amount of work they have to put in to learn it…Easily shut down

Thieves for me too as they r the only class I cannot target reliably; hence cannot use 95% of my skills against them…
Of course, high burst dmg and doing it while “seemingly” invisible, doesn’t get better than that! :P
As a player who has a fully geared 80 Thief, 80 Ranger, 80 Warrior, and 80 Guardian I have to say rendering issues, and how they relate to thieves AND large scale battles is the most annoying thing in this game. I’ve never seen a game with worse rendering issues.
It’s not surprising to see other thieves say they don’t have issues with thieves. Of course not, we have stealth to give us the reprieve we need to counter rendering issues. No other class has the ability to hide until the person hitting them renders, or leaves. <laughs>
As for people like the Ranger who says he has no issues (sounds like a thief in disquise), you are either fighting some horrible thieves, or you are making things up. As a thief, who uses Sword/Pistol, and Dagger/Dagger I can tell you stuns mean absolutely nothing because of the Sword “2” ability. So quit making things up.
AoEs are a non-issue too, if you dodge. I’ve never seen a game that made AoEs virtually worthless, like GW2 has. I have never died to an AoE, on any of my 4, 80s, and I leveled all four of them in WvW.
Fix the rendering issues, and it will probably fix most of the issues of the game. And while you’re at it, fix the Ranger for GODS SAKE. Out of my four 80s, the Ranger just feels extremely weak in comparison.

It is the only class that actually stands a chance in a 3v1 and coming out victorious.

Everytime I get a thief bellow 50% HP they stealth and run and I cant find them.
If I see them again they are to far away for me to catch them.
So I have stopped fighting them and just continue until I find something that cant stealth and run away.

I find this pretty lulzy, considering that both powerful thief ranged skills, Cluster Bomb and Sneak Attack, are almost always used at melee or near-melee range. If you’re getting killed by thieves at a range they’re either amazing or you’re standing very very still. Heck, thieves only have one max-range weapon skill, and it isn’t very viable to use from 1200 range.

Sure Thieves are annoying with stealth and crap, but you can still kill a thief. Even if that thief is amazingly good. However if you run into that same amazing player but he’s a D/D Ele, you might aswell just log out because he’s going to eventually kill you unless you get saved by teammates etc.

If the thief is even mediocre, he will use one of his stealths to run away and by the time you figure out where he is, it’s not even worth trying to chase him.
Defeating an elementalist means you killed the elementalist. Defeating a thief just means you made him run away without killing you. The only way to actually kill a thief is to catch them while they are AFK or somehow, inexplicably too dumb to run away.

Thief, no doubt about that. The constant blink in and out of stealth is the most insane thing iv ever had the pleasure of playing and playing against. Especially if the thief have heal on stealth.
Got my own 80 thief, its fun as hell watching people just give up. But when im on my Ele, well its easy to see the other side aswell. Frustrating as hell. xD

at least their ranged attacks aren’t obstructed half the time as rangers’ are.

I play ele. I would say chain stealth Thieves are pain but not hard to fight. Pretty much any well played bunker class are hard to fight. I have fought 5+ min fights vs DD eles, Necros, Warrior, Bunker Ranger and Guardians.
I win 1 v 2 and sometimes 1 v 3. So I’m thinking all the ppl I fought 5+ mins with can probably pull off the same thing.

I feel a little disingenuous complaining since I usually play a bunker guardian. However, despite the ridiculous amount of defense guardians have, they can still easily be mobbed down with no push to escape button…and their downed survivability is far worse in typical WvW skirmishes.
The mobility of thieves and DD eles compared to other classes is hilariously imbalanced.
Rangers…. because no one ever complains about them. That makes them very annoying to me.
Honestly though its not the class that makes something annoying its the skill of the player in my case. Rarely can some random thief or mesmer kill me 1 on 1 unless im auto running and checking the TP or something lol. Granted I play a thief so I guess i might be somewhat immune to the annoyingness (is that a word?) of thieves.

Sorry, but I run a d/d bunker ele with 20k health and all utility slots filled with condition removals and escapes. I should be able to survive a burst! But when a thief is capable of doing over 20k in less than 1 second, something is very very wrong.
And to those saying that d/d ele’s are annoying. We do practically no damage. You know how we are able to win fights? By outlasting you! Here is a secret: immobilize (ele’s worst enemy, without our mobility we are dead).

It takes a quality player to use a D/D ele effectively. A thief by contrast can be used by any 1/2 decent player effectively by utilising the invisi rendering issue.
