Oh lordie, i can just see all those traps being a veritable minefield now. Well one thing is it can prevent those pesky portal bombs (lay enough anti-stealth ones and you can just bomb the mesmer). Though hope they cannot be thrown, that might cause some panic for people on walls trying to build siege/or those below trying to build.

I’m pretty skeptical of the anti-stealth fields, let’s just hope they are more like siege equipment rather than bundle items that any other player can just set up.

Hopefully these “stealth revealing fields” don’t actually pull people out of stealth, are relatively short ranged, and cost a pretty penny.

Otherwise, if they have a large range, cheap, and pull thieves out of stealth, then this is a pretty good GG we just put thieves in line with engineers and rangers.

Now we’ll have 3 broken classes!

We’ll see how this is implemented.

Not sure why they couldn’t just incorporate these into the existing professions to make the game more interesting.

Traps go on rangers.
Repairing (or improving?) siege goes on engineers.
The list goes on…

Right now the only profession that has completely game changing skills is the mesmer (portal, veil). It gives the mesmer flavor and a unique role in WvW. I would love for the other professions to have some kind of similar appeal.

it feels like you reduced server capacity by 50% since the last patch…

It seems we inadvertently outed (some of) our plans for WvW with the above linked page. While we are looking to extend World XP changes for WvW in a later content patch, it still needs some tweaking and therefore isn’t ready to be introduced in this one.

We can however officially let you know we are moving the jumping puzzle for EB into it’s own map, as this has been a much requested feature for our beloved siege fairing community.

I’m okay with the anti-stealth trap, but only for a few choke points, like at the west and east gate entrances at north camp (BL), at the hole that has been opened at a keep or tower, and those very few points where it would be handy to have. Otherwise, the anti-stealth trap is useless…which makes me wish they could have just given it as a trait to Rangers so we could be anti-thief units.

Traps sounds interesting BUT not in the shape they’ve hinting (like another blueprint → build siege), it’s open to waaaaay too much manipulation.
Also, stealing supplies? After making sieges such a huge hassle? Now you have to biuld 2 trebs or multiple catas to take down a single tower if defenders are competent enough, which means tons of supplies… and now you make those harder to get in use? Meh.

Imo, traps could work more like a structure upgrade – you order it, who order it can place the trap in a 1500 – 2500 (numbers are just as example) range of the said structure, workers builds it. This way they’re much easier to balance (you can put limits in numbers and placement) and you’re giving extra reasons to upgrade your structures, with some more defences that are more useful that a oil/cannon getting ganked in 10 sec as soon as a zerg shows up.

(all assuming that traps are atm treated as siege. which might not be.)

Traps have potential and if implemented properly can be a very cool addition to WvW. However, it sounds like its going to be another Defensive tool. And right now Defense is running away, cackling madly and insanely, screaming “just try and get in!”.

Really, the defensive aspect in WvW doesnt need another tool or buff. So i do dearly hope that one of those other things that hasnt been outed yet is a a means to more easily attack a tower/keep. And mitigate the crazy Arrowcart spam at the moment.

Traps sound fun. One thing that was definitely missing from WvW is a feeling of a diversity to what’s going on. Things are very predictable especially with the game having relatively locked skillsets. I like the notion of this new store type.

It’s a gimmick, it’s just one more reason not for us to play the actual game with our characters.

While i agree on the feeling, it’s all down to how they’re treated.

If they’re like another siege, place build site and trow supply at it, then it’s just kitten and potentially gamebreaking.

If they’re placed as structure upgrades, limited in placement and number, built by workers and with some counters for enemy, than it might turn in another interesting tactical layer, plus encouraging upgrading stuff.

We’ll see.

Excellent that the jumping puzzle will be removed from EB! It is really not fun to fight with just 10 guys vs enemy of 30 and not even having the outmanned buff when 20 of your players are in JP.

I am not sure if the traps are gonna work or not. Depends what will be their cost, area and duration. I guess they are one shot, fires once, which would mean they wouldn’t be used that often.

Despite these traps I think 4 —> 3 s. revert to revealaed was a bad decision. So many thieves in WvWvW, getting just crazy and as it has been previously discussed in these forums (no need to repeat that in detail): having high burst profession who can stay invisible half of fight and teleport is NOT going to lure in new players to WvWvW. No new player likes to be insta gibbed by an invisible enemy and nowadays I see a lot of people with upleveled characters. I have even had level 2 guardian in my team and his armor was like paper. Please don’t turn this into “learn 2 play” discussion. Any successful game needs a large healthy player base and the design decisions should support that.

The introduction of WXP brought in new players to WvWvW, but many of them already are being bored or find it imbalanced, so I hope the new changes are going to make things more interesting for all of us. I have been spreading the good words in WvWvW and many people are indeed positive now “wow, finally changes to WvWvW”.
