Three times now I’ve had to change my password because I could not log in and it is NOT because I forgot my password or because I’m entering anything wrong.

I think there is an issue with Guild Wars 2 because even when I am logged in after a while it logs me off telling me that my login is invalid and I need to recover my account.

I just had it reset again and I did not get hacked, all my characters are there, same level and same amount of money etc. and the account detail page does not show any other IP but my own.

I looked around the forums and found these other people that are having similar issues.

I’m getting the same picture that shows up when I try to log in after a while.
I have contacted support and all they do is tell me to make sure I’m entering my information correctly, which I am. I think this problem is beyond my ability to type my details clearly. Perhaps something going on with the log in system.

Also I’m not logging in repeatedly so I’m not getting locked out. From the time I was logged in last night to the time I woke up to find I was kicked out, I was asleep.

I don’t know how log I will be able to have access to Guild Wars 2 so I’m writing this as fast as I can in hopes that someone has an answer?

Are you using an iPad or iPhone to access the forum? There is a bug with the “remember password” feature with some of the Apple iOS versions that causes the game to forget your password if you log onto the forum with it.

Not sure you can be in Guild Wars 2 for hours unattended (while sleeping or…) without getting kicked out. It’s not like GW1, as far as I know.

I’m using my computer.

Either way if I can’t leave Guild Wars 2 unattended it should allow me to log back in, not tell me my information is invalid.

Have you tried not ‘saving’ your password? That helped some people in the past.

Happened again this morning when I tried to log in.
Just got it reset.

Yes, very. I was having daily password resets but it turned out to be linked with my iPad’s ‘remember passwords’ setup. When I accessed the forum on my iPad it made the game reset my password. I turned that off, cleaned out the list of remembered passwords and the problem eventually, not immediately, fixed itself.

Maybe you are having a similar problem. Maybe remove and clean out any remember password programs.

Thanks for the suggestion but my password is not saved and I never log in anywhere except my computer.

I noticed even my GW1 account is doing the same thing now- also no password saved anywhere for that one.

Well, if the accounts are linked then password resets will hit both since they have the same login. I guess you tried Inculpatus’ suggestion and unclicked the remember account name and remember password on both Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 login? Have you also tried a client repair, in case you have corrupted files?

Yes the remember account/password are unchecked for both.

I don’t know how to do a client repair.
Also I don’t think the problem is the client because before I even downloaded it to my new computer this problem was happening on the Guild Wars 2 site itself.

I can send you the information on client repair that support sent me. Its for Windows so you may not be able to use it. You can always ask support to send you the procedure.


Hold down the Windows button on the keyboard and hit the “R” key.
Paste in the following line: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
Click “OK.”
Delete the local.dat file located here.
Next,

Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end. Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes -- Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair -- Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes. If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try Step 5 again.
Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”
Allow the repair to run and once completed, right-click" “GW2.exe” or your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator.”

Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again. Please let us know the results of this test at your earliest convenience.

Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repair process. The game will launch when it is complete".


I asked a moderator to move this thread to the Tech Support forum as this is about all I can suggest and you can get better help over there. If they don’t move it within a day or so you might start a thread there.

It is true that we will be able to change the Account Name (that is, the e-mail address used to log in to the game). However, do be aware that for security reasons, we’ll need to verify that we are being contacted by the account owner. and that might mean that you are asked to answer some questions about the account. This prevents someone from changing someone else’s account to a new e-mail address in order to steal the account.

If you are asked questions about your account, answer the ones that you can answer and the team will do its best to help you.
