Hey, I recently wanted to make an Engineer and the name i wanted to use is Earfana. I’ve used Earfana in every other MMO that iv’e played but in GW2 it says its an inappropriate name…? Why? I put in a Support Ticket and thought i should just make a forum post as well. Not gonna make another ticket because that would be a waste of time. Any ideas, or should i just wait for my ticket to get answered?

To get an answer you need to talk to support. We can only guess here.
The filter doesn’t only filter english terms that are inappropiate, but also word’s from other languages. So for you and me it can have no bad meaning but for someone from South Africa (as an example) it can be an insult that gets you skinned in seconds.

Ah yeah, never really thought about that. Okay well i guess i should wait for my support ticket to be answered. Thanks for the fast reply. Now we wait…

How do i edit a ticket that i already submitted?

Reply to the email you were sent in response to your original submission.

If you haven’t yet received a response, send another email with the header, ‘Updating Previous ticket re: ……..’

Yeah I tried using the name Anska Owlsdottir and it gave me the same message… doesn’t really make sense to me. Owls + dottir shouldn’t be banned. My other norn has the last name of Sinasdottir. And it wasn’t the first name that produced the error message cause I tried three different first names. >.<

In your case it’s because it trips the filter for drugs. Owlsdottir has LSD in the name (OwLSDottir).

Sadly, I noticed that last night when I was submitting a ticket… >.< I still submitted it though, maybe they will give me a pass, because I really like that for a surname.

I doubt it. One guy wanted to use the word Illusionist as part of his name. He was in a Mesmer guild and they all had the the themed name, Illusionist [Display Name]. Even though everyone else in the guild had Illusionist as part of their character name, that word was blocked for some reason and he was unable to use it. He made a thread and Gayle responded to it saying

To tell you the truth, this isn’t something that should result in a ticket. The Word and Name Filter is set for all four supported languages, and we cover offensive words or letter combinations in many other languages, as they are reported to us. Submitting a ticket to ask why a name isn’t allowed will require time from several agents, and I would like to respectfully ask that you simply try another name and not take agents away from important issues like account access problems, crashing issues, chat violations, or a hacking/compromise incident to discuss why certain letters are not allowed, especially since those discussions can go back and forth for days .
Again, if you simply kindly would choose another name, that would be best. Thank you in advance for understanding.

Understandable, but in another thread someone had made a thread about why the name Gray was blocked, and she got it unblocked or poked some GM or something to do it…

It doesn’t matter now though, I used the name Owlchaser instead which I like quite well. >.>
