  • Each gift is given on the first birthday of the character, not the account.
  • Birthday gifts appear in the in-game mailbox with The Guild Wars 2 Team as the sender.
  • Your in-game mailbox has a limit of 10 distribution mails, including those sent by other players, by the Black Lion Trading Company, or by the Guild Wars 2 Team. If you delete some of your distribution mails (those with an envelope graphic) to reduce the number in your mailbox, other mails that are queued up for you will drop into your mailbox.
  • If you are online when your character turns 1 year old, you may need to change maps to receive your gift.
  • Birthday gifts are soulbound, but the items inside are account bound and can be moved to—and used by—any character on the same account.
  • One of the items within the birthday gift raises your character level to Level 20, so use the item wisely.
  • Buffs, once activated, are per character, not per account.
  • We experienced an issue that affected the distribution of some birthday gifts. Some gifts may arrive a few days after the character’s actual birthday.
  • The replacement distribution may have given some players a second birthday gift. Using that gift is perfectly ok, and would not be considered an exploit.
  • We are not able to give second birthday gifts upon request.

Additions:

  • If you delete a birthday gift, we are not able to replace it.
  • Characters must remain in existence for one year. Re-rolls will not maintain their original birthdate.
  • We are not able to reset a character birthday.
  • Renamed characters still will receive a birthday gift.

This is still not working as intended, I suppose. Four of my chars received their present on the 25th as well as today. Now I have two presents per char. I doubt this is some kind or preorder bonus

Per release/update notes: ’First Birthday Gift

Fixed a bug that prevented some player characters from receiving their First Birthday Gift. This should also give a birthday gift to all characters that are over a year old, including those that have already received one.’

So, it seems it is working as intended. =)

How is this at all fair? Your giving presents out to all characters that are 1 year old, regardless of if they have received one or not. This is like last November all over again where people who may or may not have done the Southsun event can get free loot which included a relatively high rate of precursors.

While Im only missing out on a booster really, this still is crap for people who werent ‘lucky’.

No, a few people received a second gift. Not a lot, but a few. This was a factor of how the distribution was made, and how the fix was rolled out. It’s not an intentional double-gifting, and you got everything to which you are entitled and of course we’re sorry for any confusion that this caused.

Yay, hopefully my main will have his belated present waiting for him when I log on tonight. Based on what you told others, Gaile, if I don’t get it I’ll submit a ticket for him (I think I should have received it 3days ago, or whenever the 3day head start hit 1 year). Thanks for explaining the fixes.

Okay, this is purely my fault, but I deleted my first character, however, there are several of my characters I believe took on their transfer server date. It means I get to wait 3 months more to get my gifts. Not sure this system was the in terms of my favor, but I will accept it. Just thought Dev woukd like to know about it.

Personally, their should be an account birthday gift as well. My suggestion.

Not entirely sure how “intentional double-gifting” would be defined, then.

Last night, when the patch hit, literally everyone on my server’s voice chat who had received a first present received a second one.

Some people are now sitting on 20+ Birthday Boosters and wastes of bank space Mini Queen Jennahs.

Yeah, I’m having difficult understanding how the double gifting isn’t intentional. If it was unintentional then is ANet saying it’s a bug just like the lack of gifts was? Did the devs understand the problem that little yet got pressured to just pump out any kind of solution to placate the community? I’d love to know more about the initial bug. Anniversary triggers seem like they’d be based on simple date difference method calls. That’s usually in a well-defined library that’s been used for years (nobody writes time manipulation libraries anymore unless they’re in school). So, either way, it’s a little unsettling. Clearly ANet feels anniversary gifts are important as they’ve been called ‘entitlements’ (though I missed that part of the EULA I agreed to ) so I hope it’s been cleared up for next year.

I know people who got more than 2 presents… Still wondering how that is fair.
Maybe only a small group got more presents, so I would think it is easier to delete those again (since the number is small) Or check who has the most presents, and give all those who already had one the same amount :p

Any chance there will ever be a “bound” category that allows us to gift items to another player, yet not be sold on the TP? A “gift bound” perhaps?

I hate the idea of destroying the LVL 20 scrolls, but they are useless to me (and a LOT of long time players), but would be great for a starting out player (tho I would never suggest someone use one on their first character…..takes away your GW2 “virginity” in a way).

What does it matter if someone got 2 presents….is there really anything here that is in short supply or gives any sort of advantage?

On the scrolls, any chance these will ever be altered (or be able to be exchanged) for a scroll that gives a LVL 80 20 skill points? I get that they promote new characters (and thus theoretically sell character slots), but I’ve got all the characters I plan on playing, so they are just taking up a storage slot right now and are on my “when will I destroy” list.

I submitted a support ticket last night and got a reply that said the “development team was working to get those missing gifts sent out as quickly as possible” along with the blah blah about gifts are based on character age not account age… Well duh, I just so happen to have created six toons on the first day of the headstart using my names from GW & hopefully this wil be worked out when I log on tonight. Now. What to do with an army of mini queen Jenna’s? Into the mystic toilet with most of them?

I am very annoyed, I came back to Guild Wars because of an email advertising the new “clockwork” stuff… and being away I decided to delete my original toon.

Spent about $40 on gems to buy some new stuff… then I discover its not account but character. So no Birthday gift for me.

I feel my account being a year old should be good enough personally.

So please forward this who it might concern, you lost a paying a customer…

I am not sure about the rate being high or low, but I got a precursor from the Karka event. Some people had good luck with the boxes distributed, and some not-so-good luck.

Though, I think the birthday gift distribution can not be compared to the Karka event, at all. Everyone gets the same thing(s).

That is just the problem. We all get the same thing(s) but not the same number. So what it looks like now is that some players can use 2-3 (or even 4) times a birthday boost and others can use it only once… How can that be fair ?

Some people got a second gift. If they got more than two, then they had more than two chars who reached 365 days. It’s that simple. No one got a bushel basket of gifts.

We do not — cannot — reset character ages, so if your char does not show 365 days in age, then it truly isn’t that old.

If your char says it is 365 days old (or older) and if you are certain you did not get your mail, remember to empty your mailbox to accept any queued up mails.

If your mailbox is empty and you still do not have a mail containing the First Birthday Gift, consider that you may have deleted and remade the character at some point. I suggest this because my co-worker was just saying “How is my char only 199 days old?” and I suggested a remake, which he then recalled that he had done some months ago.

So you did NOT have a precursor sent to your in-game mail by Anet, as was implied, you got it from good old fashioned RNG. Unless your wording is unclear, you state you got it from “the Karka event.” If you received a “box” via in-game mail, and were lucky with RNG and got a precursor out of it, that’s very different. If someone gave you a scratch-off lottery ticket that they spent a dollar on, and you won $100 scratching if off, did you receive the $100 from the guy that spent a dollar on the ticket? No. Someone spent a dollar to give you a chance.

Paris’s post made it sound like some people received an in-game mail that went something like this: “Please accept our apology! Here is your free Tooth of Frostfang (or Spark, the Energizer, Chaos Gun, Storm, Zap, Bard, Chosen, Howl, Rotgort’s Flame, the Lover, Hunter, Legend, Rage, Venom, etc.) to speed your progress toward your Legendary Weapon!”

Sorry, but miss-information and bad rumors really get my goat. It’s bad enough Anet was extremely unclear about the magic find armor and trinkets becoming account bound. We don’t need players & forum posters starting rumors based on bad info or misunderstanding.

Not sure how saying some were lucky with the boxes could be misinterpreted, but if you have done so, I guess that’s on you. Every precursor came out of a box/chest. Either the ones that dropped, or the ones that were sent. If some people don’t understand that, I am not sure what else I could say. Maybe you had to be there. /shrug

I think IC was very clear. As well as Arenanet was bout the removal of magic find gear, but MF removal has nothing to do with this.

To those people who are missing a second present. You can also look at it from a different point of view. Arenanet has fixed the issue really quick. They prolly could identify and fix the issue really quick, but the problem arised with tracking down and filtering the existing accounts that allready got affected. They (so I imagine) decided to get those people their gift asap. This speedy action had the side effect that everyone got their present again. I know this sounds a bit unfair, but would you find it acceptable if you they where still trying to find a solution where only the affected accounts where filtered out and you still had nothing??
