Rhia how is it a nightmare? The system said hmm this account appears compromised, which from what you are telling me it sounds like maybe it was, the system then perma banned the account so the hacker couldn’t do any damage and you could get it back, you then filed not one but two tickets which by the way WILL NOT get you seen faster. You need to submit only one ticket following the procedures outlined in the sticky for hacked account prioritization tickets and then update that one ticket.
They are a bit behind but working to get some systems in place to make things go faster. I mean they could have just let the guy go ahead and hack into your account and if you’d saved a paypal or CC account to the gem store let him buy 5000 bucks worth of gems/stuff.
EDIT: Also the staff here isn’t able to do support directly from this page you just have to wait for the ticket to be handled.

I got 18 of these, all from China, trying to login to my account. None of them got in though. I got 3 of them the first weekend of headstart from the same place in China. But now it was from Beijing, Chinshan, Xuyi, Xinpu, Nantong, Nanjing, Chinshan, Shaoxing and Guangzhou. This seems a bit excessive to get a level 47 Ranger.

I’ve been permanently banned when I have not even played the game yet, that’s right not once not even beta. I really have no idea why. I’ve had a ticket out now for over 48 hours and not one response and I’m really starting to get fed up, for as you imagine I’d like to play the game I’ve bought. Any suggestions? If you were banned without playing it sounds like account compromise. They are prioritizing these issues right now, so follow the instructions they give when your account was hacked.

Same happened to me, read on guildwars2 wikki if this happens to change your password. I did now no password works. and it seems ticket resolution is 3 to 4 days!

I just tried logging into the game for the first time today and out of nowhere it tells me I’ve been “permanently banned”… I got no emails from arenanet, no warnings, no nothing just BAM and nobody can even tell me for what? I haven’t done anything, just made my character with two friends and ran around. I’m barely level 20 so how the hell did this happen? My arenanet account is so old I had it in Guild Wars 1 BETA and this?
Someone tell me what the hell is going on please and fix it asap.

AFAIK, accounts have been banned for two things:
1) Being exploited by hackers to sell gold or other services.
2) Taking advantage of game exploits.
If you’ve been hardly playing it’s probably the former. In which case follow the instructions here for getting support for a hacked account:

1) I’ve had the same Arenanet account since Guild Wars 1 and I’ve never changed the password. Unless these hackers went back in time and figured out what i used almost a decade ago I don’t see how that’s possible.
2) I was like level 20something with all of about 12 silver on me. Also basically impossible.
I just gave them $60 for the game and I’m banned with ZERO word about why in the first week. If I don’t get this resolved I’m going to have to start making a stink about getting my money back.

K well I’m telling you, that also can’t be the case. I bought two rings with Karma and the rest I’ve been saving up for the end game stuff.
Regardless yes I filled out the ticket, started this thread, and am doing everything in my power to get this resolved before my entire day off is wasted. I also wasn’t aware they apparently don’t even have a tech support phone number you can call at all unless I’m missing it? That seems extremely shady to me.

My account is banned, means i can’t log in…. means noone can log in. But guess what? some friends saw me online many times… today too.
So what i’m saying is that maybe you have my same problem, account banned but in real (i don’t know how) is hacked.
I’m sure about this because i did nothing wrong during my only 28lvls.
Is written in the Wiki that the ticket about “hacking” have a sort of priority, so maybe you can open a ticket for hacks as i did…. that pray someone reply before 5/7 days…
This is what we get from this product…as customer support.
Clearly a system where words as “comunication” “polite” and “clarity” are not important.

You guys think you got it bad,
I went to log on one day and got a message telling me I was permanently banned. Now, I have never trolled, exploited or used inappropriate language. On the contrary, I was actually quite helpful to people in WvW, telling them were to get and how to use supplies, siege etc etc. I sent a message to support and have heard nothing back in almost a week. I have no idea what is happening. I have NO idea what I could have done to warrant a permanent ban, I wish that I got a 72 hour ban, at least then I would get to play again. As of now, I am sitting in limbo waiting to find out what went wrong. Maybe my account was hacked because that is about the only reason I could fathom a permanent ban. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOMETIME SOON GUILD WARS SUPPORT TEAM.

Exact same thing happened to me and I’m waiting on a stupid response as are a lot of people here. Did nothing wrong, just played A FEW HOURS and boom, permanently banned.
My recommendation is get with your credit card company and immediately dispute the transaction stating that the product you purchase is denying you access with no explanation as to why. That’s exactly what I’m going to do.

Same thing has happened to my brothers account. Logged in once on launch day, then tried to login 5 days ago and has a permanent ban.
No reason given either, and no sign of light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah read that article and I feel like an idiot now, as when I used to play WoW with the same e-mail I’m using for guild wars, I got hacked and that was my password for everything. I forgot about not using that password and have used it for this. I’ve sent in a new ticket now saying I’ve been hacked hopefully they will unban me soon.

my question is, if you get unauthourized attempt does it mean they have your password? or are they trying to brute force it. to me an attempt does not mean “hey someone is logging in as you” it means “hey someone is TRYING to log in as you.” I let the attempts go for a couple of day and they havent taken anything off my characters or otherwise altered my account. but now after reading the forums i have now changed my password and email just in case.
also the possibility of me having a key logger is 0% and let me explain why.
less than a week before guild wars 2 comes out i dropped my laptop and borked the HD. bought a new HD put a fresh install of windows on it. and i have only installed ONE program, guild wars 2. have i installed anything else since then? hell no gw2 is out, this is all i am doing atm.if possible can a gw staffer please answer the following.

This is important to know because it helps me guage what is compromised. I am not going to go through and change my passes and emails on everything everytime some clown is trying to brute force my arena net account, but if they actually have my password it would be nice to know and it would help me go through other stuff that they could have access to or found a way to get the password with, so you could see how it would make a big difference knowing which. I would appreciate it if only a GW2 staffer answered this as i do not want to take advice of joe schmo forum tech support. While i appreciate the effort to help i have also worked in the IT field for many years and would like to base my action/reactions on official answers only.
Also for consideration to the GW team, you guys should just region lock china out until they get their own version to play. 95/100 attempts i have seen all over the forums and the rest of the net say CN region, and a few from mexico.
I am 100% sure when you get a email saying that someone from china is trying to log in to your account they would have to actually log in to your account with the correct password before it gets to the authentication part. I have done this at work, where I usually log in at home and when I log in correctly at work, it will send me an email asking me if it is me trying to log in my account at this ISP/IP/Location.
I think generally how hackers in China are obtaining your password is using other forums and sites that they have hacked, perhaps an account database and they will match it by user name e mail and passwords. Since usually fansites and other forums don’t exactly encrypt their information. It is the logical way for them to use a customized program to trial and error each possible pws corresponding to each e mail. So all in all it’s not wise to use the same password for all your accounts, this is partially why Arenanet is telling us to use a unique password.

I feel your pain. I opened the game for probably 5 minutes. When I went on to play again I was banned. Been banned for at least 3 days now with absolutely no help from support.

Yup, this same thing happened to me in GW. Got banned, wasn’t sure why, then come to find out it was a precaution because my account got hacked. Luckily the corrected the issue fairly quickly (over the phone IIRC).

Odds are that your accounts have been breached and banned either for your own safety or for gold seller propaganda in-game. Unfortunately there isn’t much to do other than waiting for a response. Support normally does prioritize such situations, so I don’t know why it’s taking you so long.

Brute forcing seems impossible. It would have to load login servers to the extreme in order to get any productive results. None of it would go unnoticed, as it’d be essentially a denial of service attack. Everyone would notice that. And given the amount of accounts being hacked, it seems impossible. Repeated passwords/e-mails from hacker lists seems to be the cause. Give such lists to a bunch of bad-intended people with a lot of time in their hands and they’ll be able to snatch quite a few accounts. Fortunately the auth system is getting on their way.

I already had posted this in a previous topic earlier in the week however I am unable to “bump” it so I am making a new one. I am dying to get back to the game and I have yet to receiev a response since Monday night so I am hoping I will from a mod. Anyways here is the story below and the ticket numbers too.
So I have a question for all of you. My first account was “hacked” on Friday night and was restored to me late Sunday evening. This account was used for the early start program so I am assuming the time was going to end on Saturday/Sunday night. However I decided to not bother using it and applied my serial number to a new account towards an email I never use combined with a password stretching 20 characters of random letters/numbers.
Played last night (Sunday night or early Monday morning) and everything was fine; however when I logged on today it said my account was permanently banned for no reason what so ever. I never spoke in trade chat and just quested the entire time with my friend. The entire time I was just talking with my friends in Mumble so I have no idea what could have happened. Also the name I chose was “Infinitto Jasutisu” which means “Infinite Justice” in Japanese. So please tell me my fellow MMO players why I was banned?
Also to add to the headache while I was writing my ticket to Anet about the problem my brother (sitting across from me) saw someone log onto my account for a minute and than quickly log off. What the hell is going on here?!?!?!
More information; this computer is only used for games such as… WoW, Rift, SWTOR, Tera, SC2, Diablo 3 and so on and none of them ever had any issues. Also I’ve scanned and checked my computer multiple times and there is nothing to be found for any viruses or crap. I mean this computer is super clean, it’s never used for ANYTHING other than games. Any questionable crap is always done on the iPad… this is strictly a gaming machine and for the last 14 years (this computer is only 3 months old but giving an idea) I have never been hacked so what the heck is going on?

The reason that most people are banned is because their account was hacked, unbanning those would give them back to the hackers so that wouldn’t help.
I understand that a lot of people are having problems as well, but the Arena net team is only so big and I am sure (from what I have seen) they are working very hard and seem to be almost working 24/7

This is my bro’s account to start off with. My account was hacked and i just want it to get like a week ban so while i wait for my account back i can at least know my character will be safe. (My brother says this guy has leveled my up 4 times in less than 24 hours.)
I don’t want to have to get another character back up to level 50 just because someone hacked me and messed w/ my story.
If it is possible i will post the name of my account here.
PS why do people hack and play existing toons?

My account was hacked on september 1st at 1:30 AM. I entered a ticket at 2:06 AM september first. It has been 5 days now (132 hrs from the time i post this) and yet i have not gotten any response on my ticket at all. Reference number: 120901-004733 it has been much longer than the 72 hour response time that was promised. And now i am on my brothers account wondering why haven’t i gotten a response yet? It seems a bit unfair to say 72 hours when it has been nearly two times that length of time. I’d really appreciate some sort of response… at least something saying i will get my account back. (yes i gave the full 25 digit code, original email, and character names)

My guess is it’s from the sheer volume of tickets that flow in upon the launch of a game.
And yes, account compromising sounds like the most likely reason the OP was banned, don’t think I’ve heard of a case of someone getting permabanned because of language.

I agree that at this point they should remove all suspensions as it seems many people, including myself, are getting suspended for things we haven’t actually done. But keep the bans as it keeps the hackers from using stolen accounts.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was your account name tbh, that name can be considered quite vulgar and falls into the zone of a breach of the code of conduct and if you had any other character names that were considered inappropriate than yeah it would be a perma ban instead of a shorter one.

Why should we have to wait for them to deal with other issues when ours is just as bad. Lift all suspensions and take care of your technical issues.

A simple email, stating what had been done, would surly help. All these people suspended fur cursing would know exactly what they said. I truly believe many of them don’t remember the things they said. In my case however, I have been banned for defrauding someone of in-game items, currency, or services. Now there is no possible way anything I have done while playing solo up to this point could be interpreted in such a way. If they took the time to send emails out explaining these things, they would catch them selves before mistakenly suspending innocent parties, and avoid so many un happy customers.
