Annoying Sound Bug
I’m getting this too. Hate exiting client to be kicked out of wvw to wait in queue ^^

Those are underworld portals. Intentional sound effect (and it’s awesome). They make that sound when they spawn, and a similar one when a player kills one. They open up all over the swamp, and you can hear them from a fair distance away.
Yes but must they be so ear piercingly loud? The ambient noises shouldn’t drown out everything else. Since I don’t see the portals while running around the monestary, why do I feel like a spaceship is about to land on my head?
Maybe you are describing something else. Can you explain the sound with a bit more… I don’t know, concrete words?
Possibly unrelated, once in a while (only a couple of times since the game release) I experience this strange sound mixing bug:
The footsteps (stomping) of a pet belonging to a player nearby (it was a bear the last time, not that it matters) are abnormally loud compared to other sounds in the game. It was like the game’s sound mixing engine somehow “forgot” to assign the right volume to that particular sound – it was standing out above all the environmental, UI and fight sounds (annoyingly loud, I had to take my headphones off).
In my Sound options the Master volume and other sliders are already toned down quite a bit, so it’s like this particular sound effect was ignoring all those settings and came through at full volume anyway.
Issue still unresolved and requires a Client restart. Which means i get kicked out of my Battle ground and requires me to requeue up which can stop me getting into pvp for a indefinite time
Unfortunately, we’re still having problems identifying the root cause of this issue. If there are exact steps you can take to reproduce this bug, please let us know!
On that note, please be sure to keep this thread on topic and only with information related to the “siren” sound bug. If you have other audio bugs to report, please create a separate thread. Thanks, everyone!

I’ve had this bug half a dozen times, and it has only happened either at a dragon event, or during WvWvW. The only thing I can guess from this is that it was caused by a massive quantity of players.
I can’t replicate the bug 100% of the time, but generally a dragon event in a densely populated area will give me the bug 9 times out of 10.
I also have the exact same symptoms. Weird siren sound, siren doesn’t stop on minimize, I’ve tried changing almost every option in the Audio section to see if I can fix it in game, but the only fix I can see at the moment is a complete restart of the game.
Happened again a few moments ago, in a huge mob of people in WvW. First time it’s ever froze my game completely. I don’t feel like I can play WvW anymore cause it happens EVERYTIME.

This is really annoying, hopefully they will fix it asap.

I’m pretty sure this bug came with an update between BWE 2 and BWE 3 (as far as i remember it was with BWE3, when i first noticed it) since i’ve played a tons of hours in every BWE/stress test.
Like Evilbottom said, it happens when there’s a massive quantity of players at the same place and you go into it. The easiest way i know to reproduce it: follow a massive raid in WvW and it will happen when everyone arounds you start fighting.
Hope this can helps a bit.
Please note that i’m not a native english speaker.
Peace!

Just got this problem, but also yesterday had a weird “helecopter” noise followed by a crash.
It only happens to me in WvW after taking a keep etc
I had this happen to me on WvW as well. We where taking a tower and then I get the “siren” sound and no other audio from GW2. I was on Skype and heard everyone just fine. So, Large group of people, all firing their abilities, and I end up with the “siren.”
IMO it seems like what’s happening is that the sound engine is getting overloaded and then just quits. I have noticed that if you’re in a large crowd, like attacking a tower commander, some of the sound effects that are normally produced get dropped and you simply don’t hear them. So despite the fact that I have the sound effects set to high it still doesn’t produce all of the SF channels. I’d almost like a setting to control this, because it gets annoying. There is probably a reason for this, but if it involves system resources it’s a bit pointless, on my system at least.
Considering this, I’m wondering if the sound engine simply doesn’t get enough system resources and too much activity just crashes it or it shifts into a debug mode and it produces that “siren” noise.
For the record GW2 is using FMOD with a custom system built on top of it. As an audiophile, the audio is excellent as long as your not with hoards of players.
Hello, After replicated the issue 10 times, i confirmed that 9/10 times positively. The issue happens when there was to much sound effects happening at once. out of these 9 times my speakers exploded into the warning noise. I suspected the issue lay in the option to use highest quality in options, but this was not the case. The critical issue would still happens regardless of my settings.
5 times happend when trying to either deffend or strike at a gate in WVW.
1 time happend fighing shatterer (in meele range)
2 times fighting the dragon at the beach. (one time in meele, one time as ranged)
The only solution i found that works, is to disable the master volume altogether during major events, and after the fighting turn it back on again, Note that hitting Mute on you keyboard, or something similar do not fix the issue, and that is the most disturbing finding i came up with. Until next time, hope this will help other in need.

I think i can reproduce it.
Happenned 3 times in a row in the same place
It is God’s decision that i fight.
As knight of honor, as protector of the sin. I sacrifice myself, for the blood of criminals.
Happened to me thrice. How to reproduce? Participate in a raid in WvWvW. Basically when there’s more than 30 people on screen it crashes randomly. That is, randomly. It happened the first time when there weren’t many people around, but it still was a tower attack. The other two times were at a massive guild vs guild zerg, so there were easily 50 people around casting AoE and other stuff.
This really needs to get fixed. This is occurring with me no matter if I restart my game or not. It is to the point I can not stand it anymore and just turn my speakers off because it is VERY ANNOYING.

WvW fights involving at least 10 people on each side. Generally doesn’t happen unless my FPS drops and stays below 15. Haven’t had it happen to me without the low FPS. Once it’s triggered, FPS no longer matters.
I also had this problem. Occurred with large groups of people, usually WvW, and usually after an hour or two of play.
I only seem to run into this issue when I’ve moved the “Sound Quality” slider all the way up to “Best Quality”. If I leave it at the default (Mid way between “Fastest” and “Best Quality”), the issue doesn’t occur for me.
Hello,
I’ve been having this really annoying sound bug issue with Guild Wars 2.
This problem occurs during large battles with a lot of people.
The sound overrides all sound and the only solution at this time is to stop the software and restart it. What is causing this?Apparently, it is a common issue.

this happened to me as well.

Happened to me three times in a row during the Skrit stealing shiney event at Invariant Base. It happened anywhere along the path whenever the large group was fighting. Only other times were in WvW.
This issue has happened to me several times and it is almost always during WvW. It sounds like it is a guardian skill sound file being repeated over and over. My boyfriend was playing on his computer, and the guardian would attack sometimes and make a noise similar to this pulsating sound. So maybe you guys could check into that??? Him and I also have the same exact computers with all of our drivers up to date, so I don’t know how I am having the problem and not him. It must be something slightly corrupt with our game? No idea… But it is annoying!!!!!
Yep i get it when there are large crowds of players with huge explosions happening, using a sound blaster headset, all drivers up to date. ONLY happens when large groups of players together if I’m alone or with small groups it never happens. Playing Charr guardian and using client patched from beta one.
I also have this problem and sometimes I get a GW2 crash after the siren has started.
I noticed that most of the times it started when I was knocked down to the ground.
For me, I’ve noticed it a large loud sound that hurts my ears and happens a few times a day. I haven’t noticed if it happens when lots of people are around or not. It almost sounds like hitting a home run over loud speakers with reverb echo after it. It’s much louder than normal sound so I don’t know how I’d adjust settings to try to prevent it from hurting.
Edit: After reading more, it sounds like there are multiples of these. Mine isn’t happening in WvW or with loads of people and it does not crash my game. Just hurts my ears and startles me.
I hate all those boys in my yard.

Yup, note another 1 down on the list of people with the problem, only had it twice so far but it is still very annoying.
Hey.
I have the same issue. As it was said, it happens in extremely large groups. For me, i noticed this in the Megadestroyer event and at the Battle of Fort Trinity, but it’s not limited to that. I’m on a Xfi Titanium with latest WHQL ’10 drivers, not the beta ’11 ones, I7 2700k, Win7 32 bit.
I haven’t had this issue, but for a different sound bug (constant reverb near godslost swamp) I could get it to stop the sound by adjusting the audio mixing buffer setting in game. Don’t know if this will stop the high pitched sound you’re experiencing though.

I have the same problem its random in WvWvW for me. Doesnt seem to matter if its a huge opfor or just 5 enemies. sounds like some radiation alarm and it generally locks up gw2 for me causing me to have to wait another 30+mins for WvWvW again.
Mobo: Asrock Extreme 6/GB X79
Audio device :Sound blaster recon 3Di

Two MSI twin frozr III HD 6950 2gig cards(obv only one works no xfire support yet)
I7-3820 at 4.3ghz due to bad psu cant overvolt atm.
This is seriously game breaking for me. I cannot do WvW without this eventually happening and if I restart the client I lose my place in WvW. It’s only happened once in PvE during a SoD zerg.
Is there anyway to keep our WvW slot for 1-2 minutes after we log off? That should be enough time for a client restart.
(edited by aetherseed.5609)
Yes me too, always after a 20-30 min, more times when i attack a gate whit more people or like in a dynamic events.

I’m getting this same problem, but it only seems to happen at very rare occasions. Maybe once a day or every other day. This started happening after I updated my Nvidia drivers to 304.79 from 301.42. The only way I see to quick-fix this issue is to restart the game.
Formerly: Phoenix Ascendant [ASH] – Gate of Madness
I’ve tried moving my sound sliders from Stable to Latency, Low to High Quality, and turning on or off playing sound in the background. None of this seems to work, and this bug happens randomly throughout WvWvW only for me. I can say I notice it happening more when there is a huge influx of people on a map around me.
For Example:
The bug happens a lot when approaching a Tower or Keep Gate and it is heavily defended. The second I reach the gate the bug happens. I’ve never seen this happen outside of WvWvW or when there isn’t a lot of defenders around me.
80 ~ Thief/Guardian
also Fire elementals wing flapping noise seems too loud after the last update.
happens to me on jormy fight quite regularly.
I have a rather high end gaming rig, and this is the only game ive had this issue with. On top of that, this “sound wave” only occurs in WvW, and only in battles. The best I can tell is that it occurs from to many high quality sounds comming in at once and…. overloading the game. Im no technician but that seems to be the case for me. This wouldnt be so terribly bothersome if i didnt get dropped from WvW and forced to reque and not be able to get back in WvW for (most times) several hours. I hope you fix two things from this thread – the sound wave bug and stop kicking players that go offline / disconnect for about 5 minutes (is fair, i think). rather ridiculous to boot people just for disconnecting /game crashing right away.
OMG!
I thought my headphones were broken!!! That’s the SAME exact sound that I was experiencing and even after closing GW2 the beeping sound continued!
Had to turn off my headphones until it went away!
I agree, this bug is very annoying. At first I thought my sound hardware was broken. But then I realized that it’s a bug from GW2. I record a GW2 LP, and it’s highly annoying when, after an hour of queuing, you get into wvw, play for five minutes, and then have to restart the game and the video recording. Gaaaah….
Had this problem as well for about 4-5 times now, always within WvW!
I am having the same issue…the popping and other random sounds and they are very loud. Seems to happen more often when in a cave or other enclosure and also in a group. I’ve tried to reinstall the game to no avail.
I have never had any other sound issues with any other games or programs
Egon, I think I get the same thing, but it doesn’t seem to have a pattern to it. I rarely have Firefox going when I play, since my game slows down some. It sounds like someone just hit a baseball out of the park, just a huge CRACK. I don’t think it is ever when I am in a battle, usually standing around or running.
The sound is caused from the Fire Elemental summoned by Elementalists. It’s not at the same volume as the master volume. To fix it, go to your sound options and hit default settings. Then you can readjust your master volume.
happens to me during big fights(WvW or PvE public boss) + big explosions…
It happend to me two times, the first one was a few days ago in WvW and the second one was today in a big DE in Orr with many players. So it really seems to happen only with many people fighting around me.
This and the lound pet sound bug are extremely annoying issues. Probably more than any other bugs I have come across in the last few days.
I had this issue yesterday when fighting the Shatterer.
Was standing there hitting it, and sound bug hit and froze the game.
I have had this bug happen to me on a daily basis in large scale battles. Someone told me that they fixed it by disabling their Nvidia/AMD sound drivers which were overlapping their default drivers… or something like that. I use Realtek audio drivers so I disabled my AMD sound drivers. Haven’t played long enough to tell whether it fixed the problem or not.
Scratch that. Im still getting this error.

I have ahd this “bug” happen to me like 5 times in a row during a large scale battle in WvWvW -.- annoying to me, im so upset that i’m going to sleep, i hope it gets fixed soon ._.
Happened to me again just now in WvW, large scale zerg battle. It happens each time I’m in WvW, always forcing me to quit – and that’s no small thing considering how long you have to wait for getting in. It is obviously related to the sound system crashing due to way too many sounds. Can’t you simply put a limit on how many sounds can be played at the same time or something? ;/ As well as auto-quality reduction etc the more sounds are playing, since no one can distinguish between a cow and a canon sound in the middle of a large scale battle anyway.
yes! please give us a fix a.net we cant play like this :’(
Well i had this 6x but only in wvw and only in big groups all attacking something. also this caused 3 times a freeze where once exact after I took a karma boost… that is a serious problem if I pay money for a boost and I bug out of wvw and the events are also bugged I completely waste the money… I also set the audio latency to low and best quality, but I will change that now to the opposite… We will see..
(edited by cubed.2853)
please fix, having to wait again in that queue for WvW is not fun
I guess I will limit doing large scale DEs and WvW till this problem is resolved
