So since the last patch my awesome looking rifle – complete with weird laser tube sight – has been turned into an ugly P.O.S tier0 blunderbuss model.

Tried buying another of the auction house – the icon was correct – but that also turned out to be the same god awful model. It made me cry.

I think I can confirm this.
I had a Whisperer Staff which I had put in my bag (the kind of bag that is ignored by merchants) and was planning to use the skin of. When I booted up the next day it had been replaced by a regular staff… Kind of annoying.
I’m wondering if Whisperer weapons have accidentally been removed completely since you can’t search for them in the trading post either?

I can confirm this as well.. I had the Whisperer model on both my staff and scepter and they both vanished after the patch, and same issue initially with models on the TP, but now there aren’t any on the TP at all. I sent in a bug report and as yet have had no reply. I would really like that model back again if this was unintended. If intended then they should tell you what they have done and why and refund my two transmutation stones.

I would really like and answer to this as I would like a staff that doesn’t look like a level 1!

Not a bug.

This skin was intended to only be unlocked as part of a Personal Story branch: Join the Order of Whispers, then there's a vendor somewhere you can buy them from.

They were accidentally placed in loot/vendor lists previously. ANet removed them from there, and swapped out any that had been obtained in that manner.

Mine was out of the Shadow Behemoth Chest. Was that also part of the accidental loot part? The Whisperer weapons are listed as loot for the chest on the Wiki, although thats quite possibly just because others were getting them as well?

Yep. They were supposed to only be available from some particular vendors, supposedly. My spoiler tag in my previous post tells you more about that.
