Also have comcast…… so who is going to fix this? Comcast or Anet? Because if comcast does then we are never going to play again…

Ok, it’s loading for me now….not super fast, but at least it’s at the screen with the download bar for the patch.

A friend of mine from Colorado has reported the same issue. He isn’t sure if his campus has comcast or not, but he’s getting this exact same thing regardless.

Anyone able to update?

I might be wrong but I think comcast is routing us really badly to anet. I guess i am going to wait and see if this get resolved(and secretly hope anet sees this and complains to comcast) because dealing with comcast customer service blows.

I had the same issues as some of you guys tonight.

I was able to update and login almost immediately using a VPN service (Vypr VPN). I too am in the midwest on a Comcast Xfinity line.

Still unable to patch. Been trying to for just over an hour now. Managed to slowly get to somewhere over 1000KB before hitting the 0kb/sec wall and connection erroring out.

Comcast in Indiana here as well. Comcast speed test shows speed to Chicago server is only 5 meg down and 10 meg up. Something is definitely wrong. :/

I agree, I don’t blame ANet for this, it’s all on Comcast imo…

Made it to the login screen and download bar. It’s at 50% and counting despite being slow and flashing connection errors briefly before going back to downloading. I’m praying but not holding my breath. GW2, please do not give me an ulcer for Wintersday…

Finally patched and ready to go

So the actual game client with the load bar is up now, but I am only getting speeds of (max) 200KB/s…. when I usually download at 6MB/s…. so something is still messed up with comcast. If I actually do a speed test, I have over a 60MB/s download speed. :/

It only blinked the error so there wasn’t even time to kill it if I wanted to. Prior to it actually reaching the download bar stage (it hadn’t even reached the login before) I killed it multiple times when it reached error, but not after.

Yeah same thing played fine early this afternoon. Came back from dinner and stuck at 0kb. Guess they did an update tonight…Anyway in MN/ Comcast

Yup, same issue as yesterday, updater not updating, but rest of connection is fine.

Does anyone have a fix to this? I guess logging on to play while wife is at zumba is out of the question… geez

I didn’t mention it in my first post, but i am also in the chicago area, and also on bleep bleep BLEEEEEEEPING Comcast. Once again today’s patch also won’t patch. In fact i haven’t been able to reliably patch since the 2nd of december.

The only way i have gotten patched was by using a VPN and then patching, but i shouldn’t need to VPN just to patch the game.

ANet, i know this issue isn’t in all likelihood directly your fault, but if you can do three things, it would be appreciated:
1) Maybe come up with a patch system that doesn’t involve patching the launcher before patching the game every time.
2) If the patcher says its “retrying”, actually have it retry (or at least let me gracefully cancel and not have to kill the task)
3) Perhaps you can open a dialogue with comcast and find out why/how your traffic is getting blocked/throttled/whatever. Sadly, comcast is the largest ISP in the US, and deserved or not (mostly “not”) they wield a LOT of clout.

West Michigan here (Grand Rapids), also comcast. Can’t get the patch to download.

I was able to patch ok yesterday, but I had this same issue a few weeks ago.

It is also weird that my game freezes and I have to force it to close so Anet devs can you please tell me who is responsible for this connection problem. Is it from your side or is it from Comcast?
P.S. I am also from Chicago area

Would be nice if someone from Arenanet could at least say if they’re looking into it or talking to someone (comcast, cdn, etc.) about it.

I used the free VPN hotspot shield to patch, then turned it off to play. Worked well.

also just used hotspot shield and it downloaded fine seems to be a way around the problem

This is clearly a Chicago Comcast problem (at least for most of us). As soon as I used my VPN to access from NJ my problems disappeared. Same thing for my wife.

Was having the same issue (Mokena, IL and Comcast), but downloaded Hotspot and it worked just fine. Updated in less than a minute.

it is good that we have found a workaround of sorts, but it is still unacceptable that it seems to be a necessity. I have called Comcast before about issues like these and unless you have a business comcast line you get the trained monkey squad. All they do is test against their servers with basic ping/packet tests and line signal/noise meters all of which come back clean. We all need to complain together if we hope for any resolution. If comcast wasn’t messing with the traffic, then the VPN workaround would not make any difference. The fact that a VPN immediately solves the issue is a dead giveaway that the issue is in comcast’s network

I guess what confuses me is why the problem is isolated to GW2. Everything else was running perfectly fine — cable, phone, and every other website I went to, no issues. And I haven’t had any issue with it until this patch, so it confused me even more when I read through some of the comments saying they’ve had this problem with Comcast for the past few patches.

I wonder if Anet uses some sort of P2P networking to help players download patches faster that sends up some sort of red flag with comcast which would cause a bottleneck in download transfer speeds.

Same problem with the patches since 1st wintersday patch. Never had the problem before, downloading very slow and keep stalling at 0kps

Edit: I do NOT have comcast.

And yet it happens again…. cant download the download installer without it connection error. worked fine when i started up today. Every patch that hits it is the same old kitten.
