Q:
Cut Scenes Dialog Cutting In/Out
This just started happening yesterday after the last patch. I noticed it while running a storyline with a friend that I had already ran. During the cut scenes half of the dialog was just missing. Everyone in the group was wondering why the sound wasn’t working, so it wasn’t just me.
Just started a fresh Asura toon. Halfway through the starter area I encountered this problem. Just tried talking to the first “scout” you find in the Asura area and none of his dialogue will play.
just as only the truly mad can ever be sane. So come mortals, demons and Gods;
dance with me, and know the madness within!
Same for me human thief, and my husband human guardian. Although we choose other storylines. Sometimes sencteces just don’t have audio and in the same fragement other senteces do have audio. It’s bit annoying. Hope it can be fixed somehow.
Ditto that! Very annoying and it seems to be getting worse.
Started missing the odd bit of dialog with my Char warrior but I just rerolled my silvari mesmer and most of the NPC dialog was missing (compared to a few days ago when it was perfect.) I’m not over-exaggerating here either. The first thing Caithe said was missing, the guy that talks to you when you wake up was completely silent, as was the 1st scout.
The really odd thing is they don’t move their lips when it happens either. It feels like my character has become telepathic!
It’s not just cut scenes either. I went into sPvP for the first time the other day and the first “scout” you talk to in there was silent. I know this wasn’t right because I’d heard him talk on my husbands game just moments before.

I’ve had this happening as well, but I’ve noticed it only happens for NPC audio, and not your character’s voice.
I was experiencing this (solo) very rarely before the last update. But today a friend and I were playing and it happend quite a bit. Both NPC and character voices would go silent for a piece of the cinematic, then return the next time they spoke. I thought it might have gotten worse because we were partied together, but not sure.
Also been having this problem today. As Anscenic says, it’s mostly NPC audio that doesn’t always play, my characters dialogue seems to be fine.
I can confirm that this has also started happening to me; up until yesterday all the audio was playing in cut scenes. It’s random, sometimes the NPC has no audio, sometimes my character. I started a Human Mesmer, to see if it would affect new characters, and it does.
Weird stuff.
I’ve noticed it getting worse and worse as the week progresses.
Sometimes clicking the window to make the "Skip scene’ option appear causes the NPC to say some of their lines, though typically they will still skip audio even after this has been done.
I don’t know whats going on, I hadn’t adjusted my settings aside from adjusting the sample rate to get better fps. No new drivers have been installed.
Had this happen a couple of days ago on my Asura warrior. Wondered what was happening at the time as it had never happened previously.
Same over here and it doesn’t seem to be just us, there are quite a few threads all with the same problem;

any chance we could get an official response?
I concur it happened before 15th of september.
My 3rd alt playthrough recieved it on the 14th.
Whilst before that, i’ve played a character cleanly through cutscenes without any cuts.
I don’t know wether it helps or not, but that’s what i wanted to point out.
I experienced this problem too, and never before today. Occasionally, a Scout’s dialogue starts a little late when the area is still loading, but as it is now, I am missing significant parts of cutscene dialogues.
Oddly enough, during dialogues, the characters make all appropriate gestures, but their lips don’t move when they skip their lines. This makes it seem like a server-side issue, rather than client-side.
As a last addition, during a personal story instance (Human Order of Whispers level 26 ‘The Sad Tale of the “Ravenous”’), my character’s disguise was not visible. Except that my headgear was displayed during the cutscene dialogues. I tried one supposedly-disguised dialogue with standard adventuring gear, and one with town clothes (just to make sure that my regular outfit was not identical to the disguise). My character’s appearance in the second dialogue had reflected my switch to town clothes, and again displayed my (gemstore-bought) headgear.
I like to see my headgear in cutscenes, but I like to see my disguises even more.
Apparently, the game simply does not load certain parts of audio or outfits.
I’m not sure whether it’s because of the progression of the story or
it’s due to problems with the one the patches, it started off fine,
but the majority of the story mode I’m only getting half of the dialogue,
same as Aaarrrggg above, the characters just stand there, no lip movement
or gestures, if there was voice work done to those parts it’s a shame
I’m missing it , for me and the voice actors.
I think I’m nearing the end of the story now and the last half has been
blighted by this problem so if it is ever fixed it’s a bit late for me,
I hope there is a fix soon for the sake of others.
Didn’t have this problem up until I got Trehaerne (yikes forgot how to spell his name). The Sylvari guy. His dialogue cuts out quite often while I’ve never had any problem with my characters dialogue.
Same problem here i have tried it with different head sets and sounds systems of that the problem whas but no it is something in game plz fix it or ad least say u guys now of it and try to fix it.
Happening to me as well, currently in playing a Norn. I think it’s more than just the sound not playing… Have you guys noticed that the NPCs won’t even lip-sync while their voice-over isn’t playing?
This issue happened with the September 14 patch update and thus far has not been fixed since I ma having this problem a lot. I have stopped doing my story quests because of this bug since for me listening to the characters interacting is part of the enjoyment.
Same here, waiting for a fix.
