Guardian: Symbolic Avenger Trait bugged
This kind of needs to be addressed quickly, guardians are better than siege in wvw at the moment.
Ferguson’s Crossing just used that exploit in Borlis Pass. They took our Garrison, Hills and Bay in less than 3 minutes each and they were all fully upgraded. Cheating is not how I play the game and if this isn’t fixed soon, I will no longer be playing WvW nor will I encourage friends and family to play Gw2 or the upgrade. This exploit is known by Anet. They have to know by now and still have not fixed it.
Please fix this- end game content will not be challenging until condi scaling and this bug are both fixed.

I know a lot of people threatening to quit the Teq event until this is fixed. The seal bug made him melt so fast the double hp meant absolutely nothing. Please fix so I don’t miss out on this event in the future.

Looks funny, but they really should fix it. Sadly it looks like they aint doing anything til next patchday. And you can only hope, that they will fix it there.
To me it looks like, that all symbols are counting – not only those from the guardians in the group. Otherwise the damage output shouldn’t be soo high – still to high of course. I mean five guardians with quickness should be able to have permanent ten symbols on the ground – which would result in a factor of 2.59 instead of 1.21 (for only one guardian). So the effective number of players “only” would be doubled for the present guardians.
To me it looks like the boon bug a week ago – so hopfully it can be fixed in short time (without making this trait useless – maybe using a cap for the multiplicators (2?), or only counting the symbols which oneself has put down ) .

Yes it counts for every symbol on the ground and yes it shouldnt. According to the trait description it should give you only 10% more dmg, no matter how many symbols there are.

It’s honestly disgusting. Knowing about it does not prevent them from doing it normally, you know, with siege and without a bugged trait. It’s worse because not only did the people involved know about it, they continued to exploit it for hours.

I can confirm the bugged trait Symbolic Avenger. It just stacks from other players that adds an extreme damage increase against Tequatl etc. I had about 80k dmg per hit with my hammer guardian.
Some ppl reported the damage for about 275k dmg with GS Skill 2.
But this works only if there are enought guardians… at least 5 in group with the activated Symbolic Avengers + the elite skill for quickness and hammer for symbols while auto attacking. Or more with some different guardians builds that’s used with Symbolic Avengers or not.
It’s very harmful for WvW because the gates etc are melting down very fast by the big invasion of guardians without to use any siege weaponry and such.
The bug needs to be investigated by ArenaNet.

Its already out for too long, and i can’t find any official respond to it. To be honest im afraid to play my guaridan, because i am not sure what the consequances gonna be. If there will be any punishments or something to punish people who used the “bug”.
Oh my ANET Please, watching MAGUUMA use this exploit with 15+ guardians on HOD is driving many not to play your game, you have PVE and WvW people very angry about the slow response. Any response.
In WvW by the time swords come up they are literally on the lord, we cannot respond that fast. It is making holding our BL impossible, Over the last 3 days our server has known about these multiple exploits they are not even logging on. Only way to compete is to use your exploits as some servers are embracing. HELP.
They are probably too busy finding other ways to nerf the mesmer class than to fix this major bug.

Not yet, but it is pretty obvious, that this is not working as intended. Symbols of other guardians should not count.
And as I said, according to the description, the amount of symbols shouldnt count at all but it would be fine, as long as only your own count, cause you cant really maintain more than one symbol for a longer time.
Assuming you could get 77 guardians in one place on a training dummy, and assuming all 77 guardians can concurrently drop 2 symbols each, and assuming at least one of the guardians can do over 1000 damage with a single attack (before the stacking bonus applies), you might be able to cause an integer overflow on the damage number (assuming 32 bit ints are used for damage numbers).

I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think you understand the context. This is the guild that I’m in, I was running in this too. Our commander had us do this for the sole purpose of collecting footage to report to Anet. This exploit has been used by small groups all week, and we wanted to demonstrate how unfortunate this bug is. The run lasted for 2 hours and did not have any impact on the standings for this week. I had hoped that I made this all clear in the video. But there you go

Except for the fact that having large groups of people, aka “zergs” is a very popular and commonplace thing in WvW and Guardians are one of the most common and demanded classes for said WvW zergs. Occasionally, people also DO and DID dps gates before this bug even existed, so really what is happening right now is not all that unusual for WvW. The only difference now is that Anet broke the Guardian.

Also you guys can’t say it’s abusing an exploit when guards use it on doors and ONLY then. If you say using this skill is an exploit, then it’s an exploit, period. It would also be unfair for them to use it in a fight against people because that’s a competitive environment and they’re getting extra damage that they wouldn’t have otherwise. In fact, if they used it in a dungeon, it’s making the dungeon unintentionally easy because of all the extra damage. So if you want to say this is an exploit that is being abused, then it has to be an exploit whenever someone uses the skill. And it’s not fair to accuse every single guardian that is using a hammer of “abusing an exploit”.
Also, in the Dev Tracker you can see that the Devs are saying they do NOT count unbalanced skills as “abuse of bugs” or “exploitation of bugs”, so just stop calling this a bannable exploit please. I do agree that I want it fixed asap, but calm down.

Just because you WANT it to be an exploit, doesn’t mean it is. Also, I saw groups do it in much less than 10 seconds. So while this isn’t an “exploit”, yes it is a very serious bug and I hope Anet addresses it soon. It’s honestly dumb how fast a group can ktrain any map right now, and I’ve heard complaints about it in the context of world bosses and dungeons as well.

By definition it is an exploit. Per the Dev post, as you quoted that part, they are not ‘considering’ it an exploit due to “the current skill state”, so they won’t be actioning on it.
It needs fixed ASAP, and people abusing this broken trait intentionally, is still unethical and unfair. Just because ‘everyone’ can do it doesn’t make it right. It is still disgusting,
It isn’t so much that one trait as it is that trait + all of the damage mods in Radiance/Zeal/Virtues in combination with that trait + Feel my Wrath. I just saw a full zerk zerg running this melt a gate in about 3s. In and out in less than a minute on a keep. This reminds me very much of the issue that happened with the new necro heal skill when it was released last year that was quickly fixed, hopefully they’ll be able to fix it soon, because I don’t think overall guardian is “working as intended”.
I believe Gate of Madness has stumbled upon this bug. A zerg of guardians just ripped through t3 SMC with a single ram per gate, which were actively being disabled. Couldn’t even approach the door without melting, with all their symbols on the ground.
Looks like Anet fixed this.
It’s not fixed; it’s temporarily disabled.
This is one of those big things they have to fix quick, since it affects PvE as well. It’s not like finding bugs in people’s watergates and then using that over and over again for weeks.
At least it’s here, it’s out in the open and not some secret tactic being used by elite guilds when no one is looking.

I was for a little while in the FC zerg last night that melted reinforced gates in 30 seconds without siege. I wasn’t playing a guardian, obviously a lot were. We spent most of the time asking each other what was going on, because only a core group of CCS knew it was a bug. Initially they did it to publicize the bug and get it fixed, but lets be honest, it was mid week, BP had a 100,000 point lead, it had no bearing on the outcome of the match and it was fun to melt gates without siege, even more fun to do it against towers with 10 or more BP superior arrow carts so see if it could be done for a while. It was fun, which again being honest, WvW rarely is fun anymore. No harm was done to the integrity of WvW, our match was not close, it wasn’t going to be close with or without this bug, and its going to be fixed, if it hasn’t already.
