Instant "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals"
Boy, I sure am happy that something I put in thousands of hours in over several years is freely awarded to people who don’t even know what GWAMM is or what it means to have it for veterans of GW1.
Don’t get me wrong I know GWAMM doesn’t make me special but it’s frustrating to see everyone get it handed like candy.
Reminds me of the changes to Legendary Survivor in GW1. I originally got it when Factions (and the title) came out, no easy mode. I capped pretty much every elite skill in Factions, did all the missions and quests, etc. Then Kilroy came out and everyone and their mother got the title with no challenge. Then it was changed to be even easier : exp from last death and not exp from character creation, making it even that much easier…
Again, I know thousands of people have it and I’m not special, but it’s frustrating to have another title I earned be watered down. to : “player logged in! achievement earned!”
I really hope they gonna comment on it soon and fix it. Otherwise this would be very unfair to everyone who earned those HoM points/titles.
Been displaying the GWAMM title since launch, partly in memory of the great hours spent with GW1, but mostly because it’s something I considered as exclusive and hard-earned.
Having this handed out for free due to a bug is greatly upsetting and I sure as hell hope that it’ll be removed from the accounts who got it that way.
I’m not usually one to crow about status and titles, but this bug does make me pretty miffed. GWAMM and HoM rewards were supposed to be a never gotten again thank you for those loyal customers and players who played GW1 and made Anet the success it is today.
For sure, I had amazing times in GW1, and I never got my 50/50 or GWAMM’s just for the kitten But.. it still feels like a slap in the face.
I’m not sure how this can be fixed, other than running a check against GW1 account titles and GW2 accounts and then correcting the errors.
Tbh I don’t think it ever will be rolled back, as GW1 vets seems to be the past Anet would rather forget which after all the support (and money) we gave them is a huge, huge shame.
I don’t care about the leaderboards but not earned titles/APs have to go, there can be no discussion about options. It has to go.
Did you pay attention to what I was talking about? if the AP’s are taken, they’ll get them back (probably through dailies) in 5-40 days, and get a second reward chest. Say they hit the 10000 AP chest with this bug. They got 400 gems, laurels, 30 gold, a bunch of karma, total makeover kit, an instant level 20 scroll, all sorts of things. They then spent that 30g, the laurels, the gems, etc. You set them back to 9600 AP, in 40 days, They’ll get that 30 gold, 400 gems, 10 laurels all over again.
I paid attention and to be frank, i don’t care about technical possibilities or if every anet employee has to sit there for a week manually checking and rolling back, but this has to be fixed for the reasons that others before me mentioned.
This should never even have happened in the first place and after all of the mess-ups that anet did where i just shrugged and said that “well, they made a mistake, to err is human” i cannot really tolerate this one.
Great, I created my 9th character after my exam yesterday and was tired of the tutorial instance so I thought maybe porting to the HoM would allow me to skip it…. but then this bug occured. So what’s happening now? Guess it’s best to not play at all now in case everything gets reverted… Just my luck.

So you want those people to get double AP chests. Good thinking!
There’s no perfect world solution where everything goes back the way it was without screwing something else up.
Part of the reason I say this is because if they have to go through on a case by case basis and ROLL BACK players, it’s going to take time. It’s not going to be a simple thing of rolling back a half an hour, or an hour, but days, weeks, maybe months. Weeks of people purchasing gems that they may not get refunded for, weeks of achievements and drops that they’ll lose, and no not everyone affected by the bug deliberately triggered it, consider how the bug was triggered, many innocent people triggered it accidentally just creating new characters
Now you think they should apply heavy handed punishment for what? For making a new character and completing the tutorial?
(edited by Devildoc.6721)
You dont get double AP chests. They are once per account. When they fixed collection achievements a lot of people lost AP and some people got below chest treshold. They were not able to earn it again.
And if Anet doesnt fix this and slaps loyal GW1 players into the face, I definitely will not buy a GW3 if it ever comes out.

So your solution is that everybody who has gotten those things the proper way should just suck it up and smile because there is no perfect solution? And yes, if it can be solved by giving certain few people double AP chests and rewards, i don’t care, it’s just gold/gems and only a few accounts compared to every random keyfarmer running around with GW1-specific titles.
4chan was laughing it up about this bug last night, so I certainly hope it gets rolled back and appropriate bans handed out…

No my solution is taking the titles but rolling over the AP into dailies, so it counts against their daily cap, this way nobody has to get rolled back days worth of progress, nobody gets double AP chests, and the most benefit anyone gets out of this bug is some daily achievement points that everyone will eventually cap on anyway.
Damage has already been done, the best solution is to find a way to minimize the damage caused without causing more damage in the process.

So you think everyone who is new to the game who created new characters, BL Key farmers and players who just wanted to make a new character should all be banned? Thats kinda unfair man, just revert the points and thats all, its hardly the players fault on this one – Unlike other bugs that people could exploit to get hundreds of gold.

I ran into this too – created a ranger alt right after the patch went through and checked today after finding out about this. My account now has all of the GW1 achievements, which it shouldn’t.
I do have a GW1 account but it isn’t linked to this account and I never really got far enough into GW1 to get many or any of the achievements.
EDIT: I filed a bug report about it as best I could considering the condition of the bug report tool. Hopefully this gets straightened out fairly quickly.
So you think everyone who is new to the game who created new characters, BL Key farmers and players who just wanted to make a new character should all be banned? …
That’s why I said ‘appropriate’ bans. I’m (fairly) sure they can tell who jumped in just to exploit the bug.

Sadly its not obvious. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to start new characters. Black lion key farmers delete and create characters several times per day.

Exactly this! You could be a key farmer, a new player, or like me just making a new character. From what I understand some people got this simply from logging in, so its not the players fault, sure its a bug but its not a bannable exploit.

We are talking about creating a char. This is an absolut legal action. The reason why you are creating a char is manifold, e.g. farming black lion chest keys for getting one of the new skins.
Anet didn’t disable this feature, although Anet had to know this issue.
If you say the player “exploit a bug”, you compare apples and oranges. It is a main difference between using (active) a bug in a dungeon (e.g. glitching) and this situation. In the dungeon, you had the choice for using the bug (Fail -> Ban) or not (legal, ok).
In this case you have NO CHOICE to avoid this bug. Creating a char leads to this bug. This is a necessary consequence. Nobody had to suspect that such a bug could appear.
Thus, banning would be illegal. Just revert the achievment points and titles, it would be the best way in this situation.
Btw: Why didn’t Q&A find this bug? Creating a char is a fundamental feature. The test plan should have test cases for this feature…
(edited by SithFire.6193)
And here I am… wondering what’s different about me that the bug doesn’t work.
I do key farms regularly so i just expected it to happen xD
Blackgate.
The error has been cut, but the rewards produced by the error havent been dealt with yet, it seems.

This is a good solution and I think easy to implement.
Anet could always make a new title for those that earned GWAMM in GW1 legit.

Sounds good and fair.

No. GWAMM is the best title, even close 3 years after release. Even the 25k AP title sounds like trash compared to it.

And the whole idea of GWAMM is that you are carrying your GW1 title over to GW2. Just creating a new title would defeat this purpose.
I really hope anet will soon give this the proper attention!
This is no minor bug or graphical QQ bug. At least a dev should post here that they work on it!

Yeah some kind of response would be cool.
I don’t know why but because of this bug my motivation to play gw2 dropped to zero.
I know it’s just a title and it doesn’t break the game in any way but it’s very frustrating.

Creating a new character is routine, but consider the bug: they probably had a hard-coded ‘link’ to a fake GW1 account for testing purposes, and forgot to take it out of the build. So, in theory, all they need to do is rollback any points awarded due to that link.
Anet could always make a new title for those that earned GWAMM in GW1 legit.
Absolutely not, the point is to have the name reference carrying over from the first game.
Personally, I would rather part with my legendaries than losing the exclusivity of this title. Yet even worse, I don’t want to be mistaken for one of those free-loaders who got it through the bug…
Seriously Anet, fix this… or at least tell us that it’s being worked on till it happens. Don’t just ignore your loyal customers.
Anet didn’t reply to anything yet. There are a lot of bugs and threads about it, still any answer from them. At least they could say something to us.
I have been playing for more than EIGHT years Guild Wars 1 and spending my time to get ALL the GW1 titles. I don’t want a “new” title to fix this bug, I just want to keep the exclusivity of my titles and items.
I hope they remove all the GW1/HoM titles and items to these people who exploited. If they don’t do anything I’m sure I will stop wasting my time playing this game.
I’m rly dissapointed with this update.

I can understand your mad but this is not an exploit! This cannot be dodged or someone has a choice in getting. I am trying to earn the points legit then this happens so I am mad but I don’t go calling it an exploit and asking for people to be banned because its not our fault as players that this happens as we have no control over it unlike actual exploits in the game that are used to making tons of gold.

I didn’t ask to ban these people. I just want Anet fix it and remove the tittles and items to them.
Anyways if you only need to create only 1 character to get all, ok is not an exploit, but if you need to create more than 1 character to get these titles and items, its obviously an exploit. (I don’t know if only 1 character is needed or not, so I can’t say if its a bug or exploit).
Waaaay too much drama over nothing…This will obviously be fixed, although as the only gameplay issue that causes is the HoM stone crush it might take a while…Still people who didn’t earn those titles will have them removed, nobody can access the HoM so no skins/pets e.t.c, and the AP will be probably removed…
Asking for rollbacks for just a bunch of titles?Seriously?Or asking to ban people for having a bug proc on their account? And all that over a “vanity” issue? That’s the definition of an overkill…

Your statement shows your ignorance into the difficulty of achieving this title on top of whom it effects most. Veteran Guild Wars players. While I dont agree with banning or a hard rollback of everything are effective fixes to this problem. This is hardly “Waaaay too much drama over nothing”. Anet prides themselves on appealing to the casual gamer while still rewarding dedicated players. So yes, vanity is a big deal. It is the end game for many.
With all that said yes this sucks. But being a guild wars player since gw1 release I have confidence in the anet team to fix the issues. Maybe not as quickly as we would like to see, but undoubtedly they will find a good course of action. These hiccups will always happen to games, and much more so to games with such frequent updates. The fact that their track record is so good in the past shows how dedicated they are to making sure stuff like this doesn’t happen. Things are bound to fall between the cracks. Just be patient.
Its not really the bugs that I am upset with. Its the lack of response.
If you are not going to fix it, give the real gwammers a new nice set of shinies to compensate? Unique gw1 skins(bonedragonstaff, obsidian sword/armour), unique gw1 minis(kanaxai,) and such?

you do realize that ‘vanity title’ you’re brushing off is literally thousands of hours of work right
you do realize that ‘vanity title’ you’re brushing off is literally thousands of hours of work right
Errr…no?…Titles by definition are “vanity items”.That doesn’t mean someone who likes them shouldn’t go for it.But that’s all there is to it.
Yes people who had the bug occur should (and will) have them removed from their accounts.
But there dozens of more pressing issues with the game at the moment that actually affect the gameplay.
Till it gets fixed some of the people who got them by the bug might use them, some won’t and most won’t actually care when they get revoked. Those who will care will either get gw1 and grind them themselves or just qq for a week or 2 and then forget about it.
It shouldn’t be hard for them to fix this as they have all of the information available to them to do so. What is harder to do is managing to link something like HoM to making a new character. I just can’t wrap my head around how something in the code does something like that. It should access information from the linked account and then that is it, how is it linked in any way shape or form to the tutorial area. I don’t mind bugs every so often but what really blows my mind is how some things actually get bugged. At the very least it should have an easy pre-check for if they even HAVE a guild wars one linked account.
I just can’t wrap my head around how something in the code does something like that. It should access information from the linked account and then that is it, how is it linked in any way shape or form to the tutorial area.
Easy to imagine. For testing, they probably wanted every tester to see the same stuff, so they linked to a fake account or short-circuited the linking process, then forgot to set it back before rolling the build to production. Note that it gave ALL the points and titles, not just some random number. I’m sure the HoM crash is connected… it probably tries to use the same fake account and dies.
It did not give all the points and titles, it gave 39 points and the gwomm title only. But that seems like more evidence to me that they forgot to unlink it from some specific persons account.

Ah, someone had said it gave everything, but fair enough. And I think the end of the tutorial is where you get the mail with the HoM portal stone, so that is likely where the code checks the link.
I just wanted to bring it to the attention of the developers there is currently a BIG BUG which allows people to get 39 HoM near instantly. I dont want to give specifics in case people try and abuse it, but will be happy to provide more info if contacted. Being a long time guild wars player I found this upsetting and hope to see anet roll back peoples accounts.
Hope they fixed this soon… as a hardcore gw1 player this really upsets me. Earned my gwamm and 50/50 hom points the hard way.
It’s ironic how this would happen the week after I started picking up GW1 again to work on HOM. While I normally welcome free stuff, I can see why people are upset. Hopefully there is a way to fix the issue other than a rollback as this is usually a last resort (punishing the players for a fault in the game itself (excluding those who exploit it intentionally)). I didn’t even own EOTN when I ran into this bug so it may not be too hard for Anet to just reference HOM data to see who actually earned the achievements. As seems to be the case with the bug, I get disconnected when trying to enter the HOM. I even bought EOTN last night to see if it would fix this particular issue, but it did not. Regardless of the outcome of this bug, i’m still planning on earning those fire bracer skins. Guess we will have to wait and see how Anet handles it. Perhaps adding a “God walking amongst mere gods walking amongst mere mortals title” (not serious)

Well the lack of a response is to be expected tbh, there is an expansion comming and boatloads of bugs that actually affect gameplay and performance at the moment.Anet is probably swamped.
And by “nothing” I meant that all this does is that a handfull of people will walk around with a title they haven’t earned that they can’t even see for a couple of weeks give or take.Probably less, since Anet often fixes things first then replies to forum posts. So yeah, woopty freakin doo.
Meanwhile, fps has gone bonkers, bugs are invading everywhere,HoT is on closed beta and the freakin’ Jungle Wyrm is naked! Those shiny green wyrmbits showing everywhere, think of the children!
To sum it up,priorities people…
They have to be able to see who has legit HoM points. The only way you should be able to get them is in GW1, and I seriously hope they have a column in a DB somewhere that tracks that.
Though a True God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals would be funny….

If they really wanted to test their code they shouldn’t write new code to do so. It should be feasible to link an account in the same way a player would link an account and have it linked to a psuedo account. There shouldn’t be leftover test code as they shouldn’t need to write code such as this in the first place.
It is completely ignorant to try to test code using different code than what you would expect to see on live. The process should have remained the same between live and test phases, the only way our accounts could be getting linked to a fake one is if they have left over code which means they wanted to cut corners instead of using the same method provided to a player for their testing.

Others got it by accident, some have some created a new character and done this on purpose.
It has been discussed in chat, and here, so mostly now the only people doing this now are taking advantage of the bug. To instantly get 10000 ach points is very wrong and like others have said should be removed.
I didn’t ask to ban these people. I just want Anet fix it and remove the tittles and items to them.

Key farmers create and delete several characters in a row, That is routine for them because you get the key from doing the level 10 personal story quests.
I created 3 characters 1 right after another trying to get a black lion ticket scrap because I have 9 of them, I didn’t notice the bug until it was being discussed in guild chat hours later.
Others got it by accident, some have some created a new character and done this on purpose.
It has been discussed in chat, and here, so mostly now the only people doing this now are taking advantage of the bug. To instantly get 10000 ach points is very wrong and like others have said should be removed.
I think the most you could get was 400, people said they got up to 39/50 + GWAMM with the bug (I already had over that so I got the 50 from GWAMM only)
It did not give all the points and titles, it gave 39 points and the gwomm title only. But that seems like more evidence to me that they forgot to unlink it from some specific persons account.
Ah, someone had said it gave everything, but fair enough. And I think the end of the tutorial is where you get the mail with the HoM portal stone, so that is likely where the code checks the link.
The stone spawns in your inventory immediately on creating a new character, you have it before you even get your mail for your hero’s band and banker golem (if you have deluxe)
