The real reason here would be – “because people like that DESERVE it”

Anyone who willingly exploits Game Bugs to cheat themself Game Progress by abusing Bugs and Exploits in a Game, violates against the Rules of this Game and as a consequense of this people like that simply deserve it to be instantly perma banned without hesitation.

Not because its fun, but because its the duty of the devs to ensure, that everyone plays fair and to show people, that if you dont play fair, that you won’t be permitted anymore to play the game. So simple.

I am one of the people who experienced this bug, I should have my account that has several thousend hours worth of investment, a clean account that has never bought gold from RMT, never had a warning, nor a suspension for any reason what so ever be perma banned forever because I happened to create a character during this small window of time?

And since this bug, I have not used any of the titles wrongly gained nor mentioned this bug to anyone in game or out of it, as this could have promoted exploitation.

So yeh ban me forever, I clearly deserve it.

And besides, I seriously doubt there is any real way of actively screening who done it on purpose, you think they will actively terminate accounts based on who created a char, or several char creation attempts during this small time frame?

They aren’t going to ban people for this. The guy advocating for this is out of the loop in how this “exploit” happened. In my opinion it wasn’t an exploit as much as it was just a bug and people don’t get banned for bugs happening to them. Its Anet’s fault and displacing your anger unto the player base isn’t going to get you anywhere.

If it were truly that simple, Anet would have done it by now. It could be that once HoM things get flagged on GW2’s end, there’s no real easy way to unflag it. And why would there have been a need to unflag something when you’re supposedly just getting data right out of GW1 HoM? When a player has earned something there and put it in their HoM it’s a done deal. They can’t even unlink GW/GW2 accounts once they’re linked. It just sounds like everything is one direction only and set up as such since they probably never expected to have to undo something.

re: your earlier comment about GW not generating substantive income…yes and no. People are still trying out the game. I see newbie posts on GW subreddit all the time. Some pick up the game for lore and story reasons (myself) and others show up because they’re chasing HoM rewards. Regardless of our motivations for trying the game, we’re dropping somewhere between $20 (cost of entry) to $60 (buying -all- the content) for a game that Anet spends minimal resources to keep running and zero development dollars in terms of updates and content. Interest in HoM rewards alone is enough to bring GW2 players over. If they don’t fix HoM here, that’s money they’re leaving on the table, imo. Given their b2p business model where players pay once and never have to spend money until expansions, all viable revenue streams are relevant.

You should read the thread. Dev response 2 days ago that they they are working on it but it’s a hard fix. And I don’t think they have the resources to go trough all those accounts to check all that. It would take a very very long time.

This is very unfair! Especially tot those who have earned the rewards! I just made a ranger and the pets I should have aren’t even there! I have 37 points, I earned my rewards! And deserve the right to claim them! Please fix this!

It is fair and probably the best decision to deactivate HoM until they fixed the real issue. I have 50/50 and I’m happy to wait with the rewards until this issue is really fixed and everyone loses access who doesn’t deserve it.
After 2 years HoM access you really can wait some weeks without the pet / HoM skins,

I’m attempting to collect the items I’ve earned through the whole linked accounts feature, but when I click “Show me my legacy” in the window that pops up when speaking to Kimmes, the following message pops up in the center of the screen “That content has been temporarily disabled. Please try again later”

I just completed my mini collection and unlocked Fiery Dragon Sword as shown on HoM Calculator. I logged in to guild wars 2 to collect my new skin and found HoM legend dude was all, sorry dude try again!

I am glad this is being worked on gives me time to work on my rewards more hehe

It is so complex because everyone who was affected by the bug (accidentally or on purpose), had different amounts of Achievement Points before they received the bugged HoM points. I’m not sure if every player who was affected got the same amount of HoM points (I read somewhere it was 39 points, but I also read that some people got GWAMM without ever touching GW1), but imagine if an affected player could’ve gotten 1-55 HoM points as in 55 possibilities, the complexity would increase by a lot because items have to be removed accordingly to the amount of faulty HoM points.

ArenaNet also has to take all the different amounts of Achievement Points a player has into account. How much a player has, determines what faulty achievement chest the player has received. That are 4 possibilities already, but they can’t remove the chest rewards because some items have been used already.

This means they have to make a division into:
Single use items

• I think the easiest fix is to prevent players from getting the same rewards again after the HoM points are fixed. That means players will keep their Achievement Chests but for instance; someone who has 1337 Achievement Points and received 550 faulty achievement points from the bug, will now have 1887 and after the fix will have 1337 again (same applies to players who increased their Achievement Points in the meanwhile). Gold, Laurels and Gems should also remain untouched in my opinion, but it should not be possible to get the same rewards twice though.

Permanent items

• The Skins, Titles, Account Bonuses and Pets are permanent rewards and should be removed after ArenaNet has determined how many faulty HoM/Achievement points the player has received so they can generate a list of permanent items that have to be removed for each account. Once you see the list of all the rewards/items that have to be taken into account down here, you will understand the great amount of possibilities there are and it will have to be tested thoroughly in order to make sure everything is right.

I probably missed some rewards or forgot something else important, but as you can see there clearly isn’t an easy fix for this bug! I hope they will fix it soon, but I also understand it’s not going to be easy!

You could just use a black raven which is identical to the white in terms of actual usefulness. Because honestly, why does it hurt you if it’s white or black?

I just completed Gwamm title in gw1. Is because of this bug and temporary shutdown my title not copied to gw2 (and the corresponding ap? Hall of monument calculator doesn’t seem to update either.

I am not sure whether the titles were also disabled, but you definitely have to log out of GW1 before your HOM gets updated.

Relogged several times in an out of gw2, and gw1 was closed since about 5 hours now, HoM calculator still shows old points, and gw2 neither is updated. I think it has to do with the disabling of HoM.

My HoM calc still updated while i was earning points. I even received my closer to the stars title while all of this has been going down, vendor locked. So maybe the difference is what stage of fixing this they are in, hopefully!?

They are in the planning stage which means they are not any closer to an actual fix than since the patch broke the HoM.

Update: Day later, i got the gw2 reward. 50 ap + title. Weird thing is Hall of monument calculator still shows 17 titles while it should be 18 (honor line) so 42/50 should be but still 41/50. Maybe that will update later as well.

I read on Reddit the other day one guys suggestion which was to remove all titles and rewards from all players, then have them log back in or re-visit the HoM to get given their proper rewards that they earned again. Sounds like a logical and easy fix to me but they will still need to find a perma fix for it in-case it ever happens again. I imagine it’s that which is taking all the time.

How’s the progress in repairing HoM ? A developer could give an approximate date to fix this problem?

Anywhere between now and infinity.

In terms of what should be fixed or not, when they manage to get a fix done, remove the HoM rewards from those players who erroneously received them.

I.e. if your account doesn’t have a GW1 account linked with the correct points, remove the titles and HoM item rewards.

These rewards are for dedicated GW1 players – don’t mess up and leave those untouched with those players who – albeit unknowingly – got them without deserving them.

Because my characters name is “Icicle” and she needs a white icy raven and not a black non-icy raven.

My point still stands. Who cares about other people having GWAMM that they don’t deserve? I suspect the only people who care about this do so for for kitten appeal because they want to be “better” than those who “don’t deserve it”.

On the other hand, GW2 is a cosmetic game, and people certainly do care about the cosmetics of their own characters. And not necessarily for kitten reasons either. THey just want to go for a certain theme.

Based on similar situations in the past, I doubt we’ll find out more than a few days before the release that changes things. The fix itself probably isn’t difficult, but cleaning up accounts to match HoM scores will be.

Same. Until it is fixed I’d rather just keep playing Guild Wars 1…. it’s just no fun logging in Guild Wars 2 knowing of the things I unlocked and the effort I put into earning the HoM points and having no access to them.

That’s fine I guess but I hope we won’t be waiting another month for this fix… at least please consider simply blocking all the 31+ rewards (titles), and let the ones below accessible on the NPC. After all the 31+ HoM titles are the ones that take the most time to acquire and thus players should be less regularly looking to redeem them.

I guess what I don’t understand is why this feature was working fine for 2 years, and then was broken in an update that was full of game-breaking bugs, and now it requires a long-term fix and testing, when the patch that broke it apparently received very little in the way of testing and reassurances.

I’m not faulting you, per se, as I understand that directives are typically given to QA rather than the other way around, but something is not right here, and the upper management responsible for these decisions need to answer for this. The purpose of QA, any QA, is to test things before they negatively impact the customer. Not to leave customers with broken builds while the company tests the fixes to the things that should not have been broken in the first place.

At the end of this, I would expect at the very least that some feature update is being made to the HoM – perhaps Balthazar weapons being added to the Monument of Valor? If all we get back is what we started with, and no sensible explanation as to why the code was being messed with when nothing was being done with the HoM, that will end in another disappointment.

Valid questions, but beware! Some forum moderation happened to this thread within the last day that makes me suspect opinions like this are not welcome. I wonder how long it will take before ArenaNet realises that you cannot fool all of your players all of the time.
