Q:

The following is a list of events that are in perpetual preparation or inactive status in the API. Can these events be looked into to see if they are bugged or not? Also, is it possible for you to please tell us what the conditions are to push these events out of preparation or inactive state and into active? Can’t they be tweaked to show up more often?

Many of the events listed were added shortly before or after launch to make sure that low level zones could handle a large influx of players. They won’t become active if there aren’t enough players in the area. Over time we’ll look at lowering the scale requirements so they become more common, but GW2 is still in its infancy, so we haven’t adjusted them yet.

Thing is “Over time” can mean anything be it a few weeks, a few months, or worse case a few years.

Understandable that any developer would not want to give an exact time frame due to how players mistake even “if things go right we hope to do this within the next six months, but to be honest it may take longer” and run with it as a “Hey, they are going to fix that within the next six months they promised”.

However, infancy or not almost a year that the game has been out is a long time in MMO Land, and it just sounds more like a brush off wait and see and if we decide to get around to it answer.

I understand that that may not be how you mean it, but considering most MMO companies have teams (even if its two people) tasked with working on watching these things from launch to tweak as needed as they expect the initial rush of players entering and fanning out among the games upper zones, etc.

I was wondering where all these events that I remember doing back at launch over the first month were, and have sat around waiting for them to start scratching my head while on my main (who is level 80) as I like to go back to old areas as this game makes it meaningful to by way of de-leveling and what not.

I just don’t understand how almost a year goes by and something like this gets overlooked when this game is built upon being de-leveled and having the “END GAME” at all areas and stages of the game, etc.

Yes, I am actually quite upset to read the answer as some of my favorite moments in game were doing these events, and still going back waiting around hoping to do them again or catch those that I never got a chance to do yet, but knew they were there.

No wonder why so many zones feel so much more barren an uneventful.

I guess I don’t have to sit around in game scratching my head wondering anymore, but this is one those moments where you find that it was probably better off being clueless than knowing the real reasons why.

No disrespect to you or the team was meant here either so I really hope it didn’t or doesn’t come across that way. If so I am sorry as that was not my intention at all.

I greatly appreciate your answer and information here! I’ve seriously spent many, MANY hours just camping in areas waiting for these events to trigger. I’m disappointed that I’ve wasted so much time needlessly, but I’m very glad to know this! Thank you. I suppose now I can simply recruit guildies to get these events.

May I please ask you to tell us which events have a population requirement and how many people need to be present to start the event so that I don’t waste any further time? I’d also like to indicate this information on the wiki for each respective event page for other event hunters such as myself.

Lastly, which events do not have a population requirement? And can you tell us how to start those events please or verify that they’re not bugged? Thank you!

but why hinder those events from spawning when too few people are around? This doesn’t make sense imho since it’s just taking valuable content out of the game. The more events are in a zone, the more it feels alive.

I can’t understand the logic of making low level events only START when the required population is met, and in high level unpopular zones (like straights of devastation) have events which never END unless there is a mass zerg to finish it, stopping people from progressing the map.

I’ve been waiting for a champion mob guarding a skillpoint in malchors leap to leave/die so one of my characters can finish the zone, for 3 months and counting

Surely after several MONTHS have gone by without an event being completed, it would be time to review having that event at all, or possible downscaling it so it doesn’t require so many people to complete it?

I definitely agree the whole events triggering system should be re-visted now that we are almost coming up to a year since launch, the populations on these zones should have stabilized enough to allow analysis and change.

Progress blocking bugs are top priority, but not all bugs are so easy to fix as others, be cool :)

@Marcus It does make sense. There is no fun having to do all events you find alone. When there are many people doing an event they often take very short time. So these events are back-ups to have events running all the time, no matter how quickly some regular events are done, there are always events active and you will not run into events you have to solo all the time.

Please dont derail topics with things that have nothing to do with it. There is btw no skillpoint in Malchor’s leap that can’t be done solo. T%here are a few skillpoints with a champion but they can be solo-ed easily. There are two with a champion that takes a bit more tactics. But you can approach the skillpoint while avoiding the champion mob (from the other side) and when your reach it without getting his attention he is far away so you can commune. So with all respect, your problem is more a learn to play problem. If you post the name of the skillpoint in players helping players I’m happy to give more information on the tactics involved and I’m sure the other helpfull people there will help you too.

thanks for the info mercury, I’m aware of workarounds to the skillpoints, this is not the point I am making, I believe you have misunderstood what I am trying to explain.

my point is regarding the triggering of events, as per this topic is discussing.

Anet have just stated (above) that some events have been left unchanged since launch because AT launch these events were designed around the expected population in the zones at that time, and I am highlighting that it is not just the events in low level zones which need review since launch.

Progress blocking bugs are top priority, but not all bugs are so easy to fix as others, be cool :)

I find that explanation nonsensical. More much needed content that, essentially, was rendered “temporary”, due to these mechanics?

You guys are closing in on year one. The game is not in it’s infancy. It’s reaching it’s “make or break” point where lack of meaningful progress on world content may completely short circuit the game’s potential moving forward.

If you guys have been sitting on all this content that just needs to have it’s activation thresholds adjusted to become active, then I’d say you should have some people spend the afternoon and make those adjustments!

I don’t get you guys. Something is off the tracks when it comes to decision making on stuff like this.

It would have done a lot for you guys if you had given the explanation, apologized that you had forgotten to tune these and promised to fix this asap.

We were told the game would see an influx of new DE content across the world, with the number of DEs likely being increased two or threefold by the end of year one. Instead we’ve gotten all sorts of temporary content that has felt rushed and insubstantial and, with this revelation, we learn that there are actually FEWER active DEs across the game world.

You guys are all in the same ship, it might be time to demand someone find a rudder and plot an actually course.

BTW, looking at the list I can tell you it is not an exhaustive list of broken or stuck DEs. There are more that weren’t identified via the method the OP used.

Cursed Shore in particular has a lot of events that simply get stuck and don’t progress until a server reset or game update. Warmaster Chan in particular usually just hangs out with his fellow Pact members…doing nothing at all.

ya Orr needs a MAJOR FIX. I for once would like to do all the events, but majority of event in Orr are either too hard, bugged, stuck, or only occurs once every reset.
Event like to uncontested Villey of Lyss WP happen only once every reset.

This thread is about events that don’t start; not about bugged or stalled events. The list I made up includes ONLY these events. At least you can still get the bugged or stalled events after a server reset. My intent in creating this topic was to find out how to start the listed events that don’t start and get any information I can about them.

Please don’t clutter this thread with off-topic posts or drive away any arenanet staff that might actually provide such valuable information to us via this post with anger or negative comments. Please. I’ve been trying since game’s release to get these events to start and this is the closest I’ve ever been to getting any information about them. I know you other event completionists would want this information, too.

If you come across a bugged event, please just report it using the in-game report a bug feature to let the devs know it needs to be fixed.
