Hi, before moving this, please consider that the thread about this issue that was moved to Discussion should of stayed here since it appears the dev team did not know about it until the AMA, and still no official response from dev team in that thread about the issue that alot of people are having.

The issue: Loot drop rates have appeared to be lowered since the Nov 15 patch that was ment to increase drop quality for champs/vets. An example of this issue is after 2 hours of doing events, doing hearts, and randomly killing stuff (all required killing stuff), there were 0 drops from champs and vets, and what I did get in that 2 hours was

2 blue items
12 crafting mats or items that result in crafting mats (bags/salvagable)
29 junk items (items that get sold when you hit sell junk)
… that is all …

Rare/exotic drops are extremely rare now, you are lucky if you get one in 1h 20m of doing the Jofast/shelter/pent event runs (and related events) and it is extremely rare for the vets in those events to drop anything. This is a contributing factor in the increase in price of ectos on the TP.

This also effects players trying to level up characters, who used to have plenty of coin to buy “all” the trait books at level 40, but now struggle to buy the 20 trait one. It also makes upgrading gear from drops alot harder since the gear you can use drops alot less often. In 6 levels I’ve only managed to upgrade 3 items, pants, shoulders, and staff, and am struggling to stay alive doing events and hearts with the much lower level gear I still have on, making it a much less enjoyable experience since I have to use way points and repair armor more often than I did with characters I leveled up before this bug.

The ONLY place people are reporting decent drop rates are in Fractals early levels (people are complaining that higher level (20+) drop rates are also low). This is also a contributing factor for the lower population in open world since farming fractals is much more profitable due to this bug.

Indeed, and its certainly not just a perceived issue but an actual one, which I seriously doubt is intended. Something must have gone terribly wrong with the change to loot in the lost shores patch.

Loot from non-fractal dungeon chests also seem to be the same or worse than before, something which also was ment to have been improved in the lost shores patch giving people even less incentive to run the old dungeons.

This bug needs a fix asap.

Just wanted to add that many people including myself also noted that full Magic Find gear lowers drop rate even more, making Magic Find not worth having in open world with current bug. Not sure if this is by design or a bug but something that certainly needs some clarification from the devs.

In my case, when comparing Magic Find to without Magic Find I got
– 26% less loot
– lower % of whites/blue/green
– higher % of crafting materials or items that result in crafting materials (bags/salvagables)
- % junk and yellow/gold items stayed the same

I posted in the old thread and I’m gonna post here as well. I have noticed a huge decrease in the drops of rare items, instead of an increase as the patch notes clearly stated. I do hope this is a bug that will get sorted soon as it is really frustrating getting those awful Bones all the time! :/

Here is what I think happened (as an example).
I think the loot table goes something like
– nothing
– junk
– craftables (including bags and salvagable)
– whites
– blues
– greens
– yellow
– gold

Now before the “bug”, the center seemed to be around the whites (since whites seemed to be more common than others), but what seems to have happened is the center seems to have been pushed towards junk (since junk is the most common item).

Not sure how else to explain it better, but would also explain why there is less drops as “nothing” has more chance than before.

As i said in the other post aswell. When we had the dye droprate bug, which was benefecial for us, it was fixed in 2-3 days with a hotfix. This bug has been reported 7 days ago, with threads even being merged yet we still havent heard an official comment about.
It’s hurting the normal players as well as the economy, this is one of the reasons rare’s and ecto’s are so expensive

I started playing when the Lost Shores update was introduced so I can’t comment on how it has changed from before that but I never thought that drop rates were low. I repeatedly fill my bags with all sorts of equipment and upgrades and such while completing a region. However, I am level 49 now have never once received a rare weapon or higher from anything I have done. I’ve defeated a handful of champions and most veteran monsters I happen across but have only ever received masterwork gear at best from them and their chests.

DevorianDevil, the problem was the original thread got moved early before the right people saw it, and its obvious that the right people dont read the discussion thread. A few of us kept asking questions about the bug during the AMA until someone use bold to get the question noticed and it was quite evident that the dev team didn’t know about it before then. Its only been a couple of days since the AMA but yes a follow up response would be nice so we know that it is not being ignored in favor of profit. This is part of the reason some prices are as high as they are, and as a result people will be buying more gems to convert to gold to buy same items … bug = profit.

I am pretty sure its a bug …
otherwise this is complete bullkitten playing for 12 hours day and getting 1 rare or 2 rares if I am lucky with or without magic find actually without is better

even dyes are nerfed too much they went for 3s before high drop bug now they go for 15s

It’s not even worth doing 100% on my characters because nothing drops at all only map rewards are good …

I can’t afford trait books that I could on my main where I salvaged everything and sold only junks now I sell everything and I am still short of money …

in lost shores patch notes we been told that they increased drop from champions and vets but they most likely excluded one 0 in drop rates or something and nerfed all drops.

I wanted to buy 50euro worth of gems but that will not happen until this is confirmed as bug

if this is new normal then I have no reason to play and that is coming from someone who got all GW1 CE GW2 CE and spent another 100 euro on gems …

but there’s been no official reply to this
and I refuse to play this game like diablo 3 playing for 1200 hours hoping to hit jackpot with 1 item that I can sell for few millions on AH to afford my gear

I agree. I am working toward my legendary and salvage my rares and exotics if the price for ectos compared to salvage means I would be better off taking them apart. Anyway, I have had ZERO exotics for probably a week and a half and very few rares. I might get 1-3 rares in a set of fractals. I get NO exotics or rares doing any type of farming.

They’ve only had 1 full business day since the AMA, it takes that long just to assign the team to look into it. For a widespread bug, they’re going to need a content guy, an engine developer, a QA guy – basically a whole team. It’s probably something in a really out of the way place that will take a while to find. I suspect wrong-decimal-point or oops-that-shouldn’t-be-negative in an obscure corner of the loot tables or the drop chance calculations, which are huge parts of any MMO code.

For the dyes, that was one item so it’s easy to just change the variable. This is obviously a systematic issue and they can’t do that. Well, they could, but that would be a cheesy and stupid way of dealing with it, since the problem would just crop up again later. I respect that they’re obviously not going to take the cheap way out. I do hope it’s fixed before Wintersday, though, or that drop rates just for Wintersday stuff are upped since it’s a time-limited event.

This issue is creating a bunch of haves and have nots, the haves have all been playing Fractals, the have nots have been playing open world. Then play fractals you say … so I have to find a group that does not mind me going AFK randomly to deal with out of game stuff, since I’m often doing something else and focusing on game when not too busy.

You need a solid block of time for fractals, despite what my life time says, I am always going AFK for a few minutes at a time randomly, so open world is my only option. STOP penalizing us because we don’t have solid time for fractals.

So just buy gems you say …. I dont have the real $$$ to do so, I am not a trust fund baby, and despite me already having poored $$$ into this game, my bank account is not bottomless. I am “forced to grind” because despite the bug I am a little better off grinding same events or groups over and over and over, than running around randomly killing stuff.

The only winners here atm are the low level fractal farmers (who are enjoying the loot drops that open world used to have), the finacially secure (who just buy gems and convert them to gold), and ANet.

wow, just wow. Anet can hotfix the goldfarm from arah 15min after someone whines on the forum because he can’t find a group but when 200+ people complain about loot drops being bugged for over a week we get zero response.
Shows where anets priority are it seems.

after finally assembled a full Magic Find set + weapons + food buffs, the usual farming spot that I tried the past 5 days yielded nothing significant. On average I would spend minimum of 1 hours in certain areas, mostly 2. The drop rate issue needs some serious attention. Anet cant just force people into FOTM, and yet they are doing hotfixes that nerf some of the farming methods in the new dungeons as well. If the end result is they want people to buy gems and convert to gold, just come out and say it instead of doing these sneaky farming nerfs behind the scene.

We have seen the response of the moderator in the main thread. they responded immediatly when 2-3 people saw an increase in rare drops but wouldnt even bother to respond the 8 page thread.
When they did finally answer the thread they said they were looking into it if it wanst bad luck, how stupid can it become.
It has become more and more clear that any form of farming of way to make loot will be nerfed to the ground and the loot chance will never change to make sure you buy gems.

I see a lot of players that are very upset with the way drop rates have been. I am also one of those players that have noticed something very off since the Nov 15 update. Well this issue is getting more serious as time goes on. I personally don’t see the point in trying to level my characters when i cannot find any armor they can use to get to the next toughest zone. I refuse to buy armor just to keep leveling. That is ridiculous and i will not do it. If this is not fixed in the next week or so i think i will just stop playing all together. I have 8 characters that i would love to be playing the game with but instead are making resource runs every hour to try and make money just so i can maybe get some armor and progress a single character. Is this the true vision of ANET? If so they can keep their kitten game.

I would love to avoid any negativity, but I strongly agree with the statements about driving up gem prices. For example: 300 Gems for a single stack of Black Lion Salvage Kits. That’s approximately 5 gold presently. After the November modifications, a dozen level 70+ yellow items yield 3 or 4 globs.

This obviously is not cost effective. My original interpretation was the proclaimed “anti-grind” motto of the development team. Unfortunately, this apparent alteration to the loot table has me back in the 80 zones grinding away — instead of running dungeons.

Hilariously, with a full set of magic find equipment the drop rate of valuable items actually seems to decrease. I’ve logged my earning with NO magic find buff and average about 1 gold/20-30 minute interval. With a significant amount of buffs I average roughly 50 silver in the same amount of time.

Fortune, I wish I had you “luck” … at one point I was getting about 50s per hours but towards the end of the night that lowered to about 38s per hour, gave up fighting the bug and went to bed.

Going to fight with this bug again shortly and hopefully get lucky enough to make the cash I need today with time to spare for WvW … if it doesn’t take all day again to make just under 4G.

It does seem to unbug temporarily for some people in some zones. At one point I was getting good drops in the personal story and timberline falls.. that lasted until the server reset. That was a good while ago though. Since then its just been crap again.

Personally I don’t really care about the drops, that much. Though I have noticed a decrease. Before I counted on getting something from every third kill, now it’s around every fifth. Which is almost half of what I got before.

Though I must say that after killing Jormag the other day I got three yellow and one gold. The only gold I’ve gotten… But I was happy for the moment at least

Is there anything more the devs would like us to supply to help nail this bug down. I did notice with the Nov 15 patch there was also loot scaling based on level done. Maybe this could be the problem, although the champ/vet improvement obviously has not worked as intended from patch notes.

Please how can we help you get this fixed quicker.

Dungeons, WvW, Events, Dragons, everything else seems to drop pittance in comparison. I get at least one rare from every fractal level I run (usually about 20mins each) and I’ve had far too many exotics there to boot. Never, I repeat, never had an exotic drop in regular PvE, and that’s with 500 hours played.

Thing is, I was getting rares and whatnot before in events like Claw of Jormag and such, until they started doing this dodgy loot balancing business. Surely they’d do unit testing and test case scenarios on the drops so that they could see if they were dropping correctly.

Like simulating the drops a level 80 would get from killing 50,000 Risen (49,999 porous bones, probably) and making sure the system was spewing out the right ratios of loot? Or maybe there is some grand interference between the loot system and the ‘anti-bot’ Diminishing Returns system. Still, proper testing would have shown that something was wrong right?

You’d think so, but the guardian staff skill empower, which is meant to give 10s of might according to the tooltip (which was noted in the patch notes, in Lost Shores) still does only 8s.. It appears that inadequate testing is certainly not out of the question.

Still haven’t heard a word. The thread HERE is 11 days old now, however, we have yet to get an answer from a dev.

Also, the drop rate was lowered before Nov 16th to compensate for the unid dye drop rates accidental increase, so it’s been 2 weeks since we started posting about this issue.

Yes. Although I am only on Fractals lvl 2 I have noticed that fractals drop a reasonable amount of loot in comparison to the open world. But I really don’t want to do Fractals constantly.. Also you are correct, Fractals are giving me more returns than other dungeons…

Yep i agree. There was a dev on another issue who actually said since there was no date set to put out a fix he didn’t think he should say anything in the forum. How kitten is that since our main complaints on this forum are that it seems they ignore certain problems. At least tell us if they are being looked at and if not then why. I mean do they have no one who’s job it is to communicate on this forum?

This bug is particularly annoying to everyone since you can see a ton of people looking at this thread. So the only thing silence on the issue does is make it seem like our accusations of greed over the gem market are accurate. They just seem as clueless in this regard as their team who releases patches are with bugging more than they fix.

This is still heavily bugged.
Neither do the champions drop me my promised loot nor do I get appropriate drops in pve.
What shall I do with 42 hooves after one centaurs event?

At the moment greens should be named rare, and rare = very very rare.

Open world PvE gets less and less fun.

If I’m lucky, in a full MR set I get 1 rare an hour – this used to be 3-5 rares. I get perhaps an exotic once a month.

I’ve yet to have a veteran or champion mob drop anything better than a green.

WvW is a joke for loot – 90% of the time I’ll get a spike (WvW loot from players really needs to be 10% better than present to make up for the reduced number of kills compared to PvE).

This really does need to be addressed.
