Loot Drop Rate Bug
During WintersDay time, DARKNESS is really taking over this game…
I’m surprised ANet even suggests that they want people to keep playing their game…
I won’t be doing anything in their game until i see the bug is fixed (or whatever) because it’s bad enough i can’t play my class but when i don’t get rewarded for my time it’s useless to login.
To give you an idea how bad this is for leveling a character, I mapped mount maelstrom, did the hearts, ran some events, did the skill challenges. I only got 1 item I could use (pants). At level 71 and my character still has some lvl 50 gear, highest they have is 64 (which was a storyline reward I believe).
Do you know how hard it is to level a character with gear too low for the area?. Killing stuff takes for ever, and lots and lots of kyting (if they dont cripple/immobilize you) just to stay alive. I was only able to complete the zone because I teamed up with someone who was having the same issue.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
wildcode, that is exactly my new speculation, I’ll quote myself:
“Maybe until recently it was too easy and fast leveling up to 80, so they decided to extend the time of game-playing by cutting down the experience and loot you get.
That way you need longer to level up and to receive appropriate loot (like green armor pieces which would improve your game-play).
^^”
Just ran an event chain in the Harathi Hinterlands twice (failed). Killed 5 champions, 3 of them just myself (level 80 ele) and a warrior who was nearby. Killed more vets than I can count. Dropped no rares, 1 green, a few blues and a lot of junk. The most valuable thing was likely the supply bags (20 of them) simply due to the mats, though this only came from taking down an excessive number of centaurs (fought 10 or so at once at one point to rez another player). This includes the loot from opening the chest, twice. I doubt DR is invovled as this was the first time I logged in today and played for around an hour and a half, if DR is that jumpy it’s a little concerning.
These event chains are really fun (though hard with so few people around at times) but the loot is terrible.
I think this is affecting higher level characters more, as my mesmer who is level 50 pulled more far more greens and overall better drops in half the time without doing events. Maybe the algorithm for higher level character drops is messed up?

Spent 2 hours fighting a Legendary Champion in Orr the other day. Finally got it down, we all got a mere blue :S Felt like such a waste of time, we didn’t even bother with the rest of the event-chain and just went back to Lion’s Arch…
I usually love Open World PvE, but it seems it’s just not worth your time.
Every event restarts 10 minutes after you finished it, completely killing the feeling of ‘yeah, we killed the kitten and took over the city!’ (Talking about Harathi here) Spend hours following the chain, killing multiple champions at the end, you get a blue, or a green, from the chest and then 5 minutes later, it all starts over again. The mobs don’t even get the chance to leave the camp – they’re actually still there after you killed their boss, they never leave, probably because they know their mates have only gone for a toilet break :S
I was so excited about this game when I first started playing, but it’s been a let down the further I progress – I’m actually leveling a second character, and experiencing more and more of the same issues/frustrations…
I’m so annoyed by this decrease in drops of even mildly useful armor items making it very hard to level my characters that today i played a game made in 1995 because it was far more entertaining. I doubt i will play this game much anymore. Was fun while it lasted.
I am going to recommend everyone here do what I have done, and sumbit a support ticket on the issue. We need an answer on this issue and I feel this is the only way we will get one.
i think someone screwed up a variable some where to cause drop rate calculations to invert the result, which would explain why magic find gear reduces the rate of good drops.
Hi, is it possible that the Passion Flower drop rate off of passiflora nodes is off by a percentage?
I’ve had my 3 level 80s out there burning through mithril sickles and have not received a single drop. I’ve even burnt through my black lion sickles with absolutely nothing to show for it.
Since I need 75 flowers per each piece of jewelry I’m trying to create, this is just a bit disheartening.
Thanks.

that’s exactly what I was thinking. Tried it again last night on my thief just to see. Sure enough as soon as my luck rune hit max, pourous bones alround. That’s when I logged out and came here. I don’t think I’ll be logging in again until this is fixed. yeah it’s just a waste of time really. (I mean moreso then gaming is because most games actually reward you for time spent.)
How do they expect us to keep playing this game like this?
That is a good freaking question.
I haven’t tried getting them in a week but I think this is just really bad luck as I was able to get 2-3 of them each time I went to the island using the Orichalcum sickle
Did some Orr farming for the first time in a while and averaged less than blue. TP has skyrocketing prices all because of this. Is this what the devs want?

Devs…no, I doubt it. Developers often are very attached to their applications and I’d be surprised if most of the devs weren’t as upset as the player base. It wouldn’t surprise me to see some devs resigning from ArenaNet over this…fat execs looking for a new yacht, telling the devs what to do…that’s where this is most likely coming from. They’re trying to ram-run people in to using the gem store…it’s that simple.
All it takes is one guy thinking that raising the decimal value of a multiplier raises the drop rates.
At least, that’s what it feels like. Drops without MF, drops with MF, it’s all terrible in comparison to pre-November numbers.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
Well, I’ve been leveling my mesmer, and I must say, it seems more a higher level issue than anything else.
While I was leveling, I actually found 2 rares by just questing, I didn’t even notice them until I was selling my junk.
Now I’m 79 and trying to get some crafting materials for my rare gear, so I can get some decent gear as soon as I hit 80 – I was hoping I’d get enough within the time it took to grind 200k experience, but I’m about to ding (took me 40 minutes of killing crawl) and I have only found 1 large bone. The rest was junk, junk all around… Half of the crawl didn’t drop anything, about 40% dropped junk and the remaining 10% dropped salvage-able stuff…
Might be nice to add here that I have 10% magic find on my leveling gear, and while leveling, I got plenty of crafting mats. At one point during last weekend, I even thought some of the mobs (grub in the big south-western cave in Harathi) had a 100% droprate…
So, I don’t think the droprate is broken necessarily, I think ArenaNet just changed the droprate for higher level items. As someone else already wrote, probably to get people to buy more gems to buy gold to buy the crafting mats for high level/end game gear… It’s your basic scam for money and I don’t like it, at all… I’ve got 2 friends who were going to buy this game for Christmas, but I talked them out of it. Or at least, told them to wait, see if anything changes. Because bugs keep popping up, and ArenaNet isn’t taking responsibility and isn’t communicating to their playerbase (even though that last one, was one of the reasons why I started playing GW2. On all the interviews I saw, they gave the impression that they actually cared about our opinion, that they actually stood closer to the players than any other MMO I’ve ever played… Guess that was just a ‘scam’ as well…)
And little off topic but related to events: Karma banner’s and Boosters DO NOT boost Karma rewards…euhm…isnt that also a bug? thought that was what they where supposed to do…..
You are wrong about karma, the upper right icon does not change, but the actual karma pop in the center of the screen and the actual increase both are adjusted.
If this is true, it’s very misleading. I suggest devs to change the display so that the true amount of karma is always shown, not that notification A shows X karma gained (gains shown in the upper right corner) but notification B shows Y karma gained (text in the middle of the screen).
Finally have a reply on the ticket, they “THINK” it is indeed a bug where the numbers in the event reward upper right corner do NOT change, however the actual received amount is correct….so basically the text just doesnt change, but your reward does.
Everyone who is having this issue, I suggest you file an in game bug report. The more reports they have the better the chance of getting it looked at. Your best bet is to play for a while in your normally favorate loot area, then file the bug report which gives the QA team more details than we can provide on here. Might also help if you have your inv open to show what loot you got during that time with an attached screenshot.
To file a bug report open the game menu, select support, and then select report a bug or press the ladybug. Since there is no option for loot I selected NPC behaviour.
I thought gw2 had systems in place to tell in incredibly depth what plays were doing and how they were getting on? And they cant see how many golds drop on average from mobs?
Sounds like this “report and we will look” is just a placebo/decoy to me.

Agreed. Same goes for bots. Any half decent coder should be able to write something to track down bots based on activity, especially these new teleporting bots. That should be a no-brainer, yet they have to rely on us to report them? Sounds fishy. Perhaps ArenaNet/NCSoft are running the gold vendors…hence the farming bots…through a side company…dual income!!! It would also explain why the bots can do things no one seems to be able to do.
Probably it’s just a coincidence that guildwars2.com and gw2gold.com both resolve to Texas addresses…

Here we have a post about the bot issue telling us that hey we all did great in helping them get rid of bots for the most part…
now how about posting something from the guy in charge about the results of the AMA investigation that was supposed to happen to find out why drops are so terribad.
unless you already know the answer to that and don’t want to say something…
because it’s only been an entire month of waiting on an answer across three threads in three sub forums for one you know.
The question surrounding this is simple “nerf or bug?” but the answer seems to be so complex that no one is willing to give one, including support
Keep posting your experiences with loot here, and reporting it in game. Support says the issue is being investigated to determine if there was negative or unintended change to loot, and until they make a determination on that we probably wont hear from ANet.
Clearly there was but I guess they have to find it first.
I am currently “grinding” level 72/73 Svanir in southern Frostgorge Sound trying to get the equipment I need, because I can’t really progress further without upgrades, and if I goto lower areas I wont get the gear for my level. Getting alot of junk and some crafting mats, very few “equipment” … In the past I have farmed these guys for totems so I know they used to drop better than they are.
Nope, hardly any equipment drops from Svanir, pleanty of totum, spikes, bags and torn garments, and what equipment did drop is not for my profession … time to try the grawl.
Gah, I give up, turning off game and going to watch a movie or something. This is too frustrating.
(edited by wildcode.5403)
I agree with Wildcode.
I spent entire level 79 to 80 grinding Grawl (that’s 200k worth of experience, with just 500/600 exp per mob). Dropped 2 bones, 2 totems and the rest was junk and a white salvagable here and there :S
I ran from Lion’s Arch to Fort Trinity, killing mobs along the way, doing some events, and in the lower areas, it seemed mobs had a rate of around 80% for blue crafting mats… Then I got to Straits, and the droprate was gone again, just junk…
So, to me, the question is pretty much answered… nerfed. As if the game wasn’t enough of a grind :S

Can you all please test if there was a change after the patch today?
I am wondering whether I had a lucky day or they’ve done something. ^^
I found this interesting somewhat: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/248054-introduction-to-the-live-response-team-and-the-bug-fixing-process/
So the more we bugreport it, the bigger chance of them fixing it.. hopefully.

I am curious now, has this bug (clearly it is) been given a No.1 priority or a No.3 priority. I am hoping a No.1 priority due to it effecting a large user base, and negatively impacting player, including those leveling up. But because of the long silence on this issue it feels like its been given a No.3 priority.

Bug still exists, its quite a rush trying to get skill points and hearts when your gear is no where near the level for the map.
I don’t know what disturbs me more, that they are saying they haven’t done anything about this because we weren’t reporting it the right way or that that indicates they didn’t notice anything wrong with the games economy or read our messages in these forums in several sections, not just game bugs, and put two and two together.
If its true we needed to report it in game then what the heck is the point of this forum? It just makes me mad that they seem to be saying that we were all correct when we suggested they were not even paying attention to what we were saying. The economy going way out of whack should have been a HUGE clue something was wrong.
This all makes me more angry about the situation not less. If they can be this clueless about the state of their game then it shows they don’t give a you know what. The whole thing is just ridiculous. They either do not follow what is happening in the game and are relying solely on in game reports to keep it running or they didn’t want to admit they messed up so big they ruined the economy. All they had to do to keep us happy would be to have answered any of the questions about it in any of the forums it was brought up in. All they had to say is its being looked at. Instead of being seemingly clueless and telling us we are just being unlucky while the economy falls apart and they totally ignore the situation.
Still no reply from Anet? This is pretty discouraging. It’s clear whats really going on here isn’t it?

Right now they’re just playing the waiting game. I honestly think that they believe that once all those who played before the Nov 15h update have quite out of sheer frustration that things will just move along swimmingly. In reality, they’re disillusioned in that the drop rates are so bad and the TP so expensive that even newbie players won’t last long before getting frustrated. Over the next couple months, I estimate this will become a common topic of conversation regarding this game on game news sites and magazines…it won’t get fixed until they see it affecting their sales, at which point it will be far too late and most of us will have moved on to other things.

I find it fascinating that they made mention that all posts that were placed in that thread were flame posts. Mine was a valid question asking them if they were the team involved in investigating the loot bug issue, and or if they implemented the lower loot drop percentage as a fix and messed up the open world and there was concern from the community about the silence. I mentioned three threads to show the documentation about the loot issue with this game and this was one of them.
It’s amazing that my totally respectful and carefully worded request was swiftly deleted and called and attempt at flaming.

Indeed they cannot moderate the entire internet.
To be honest, I never really saw anything in that thread that warranted the deletion of the posts. Perhaps there was one or two, but the rest? But I guess it was more convenient that way…. (and also lazy).

Has anyone noticed a change in drops?
Has anyone noticed a change in drops?
I’ve played a lot today, and it’s not any better. Seems worse actually, but that’s probably just bad luck.
Well I got some T6 mats from bags from level 80 risen and svanir. But still no rares from vets or champions without mf on. I will try with MF next to see the results.
I did not get rares or exotics from Veterans or Champions with and without mf. ^^
And these do not drop loot at all time, but sometimes – IF they are in good mood and they like me – they drop me a white, a blue or a green. -.-
Can someone please at least fix what was promised in the 15th November patch notes?
“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.”
That is NOT the case! It is not working as intended and it is worse than before you implemented that improvement.
Would you please consider if there is something messed up?
Is there – for example – a possibility that DR is buggy?
The last sentence in these notes hurts me the most.. because right now PVE loot lags miles behind dungeon/ fractal loot.
It does not feel rewarding doing the pve content and it is not fun to do it.
I don’t know what exactly messed up since the 15th November, but compared to post patch the game experience and quality regarding rewards was quite fine before!!
Bug is still here, and it looks more and more like DR is a culprit behind it. I see people getting normal drop rate if they play an hour or less everyday. If you stay in game longer, no matter what you do, you are getting penalized. Even if you play different alts and alternate between zones a lot, DR will still kick in.
in my response to this, today in like 3-4 hours of fractals/tequtal and jormag i got 11 rares, 1 exotic, 1 precursor. I don’t think the drop rate is broken
in my response to this, today in like 3-4 hours of fractals/tequtal and jormag i got 11 rares, 1 exotic, 1 precursor. I don’t think the drop rate is broken
It does seem more clear that some people are getting lucky, while others have consistently bad loot. However, if you followed this issue any you’d know that fractals are really not what we are having an issue with. Fractal chests were fixed as well, so the chest drops scale better with difficulty.
The problem that many many people, in the other long long thread have and probably others who dont know better, is that its gone far past just being bad luck. Its like we are hit with a permanent bugged DR no matter what we do, no matter high much magic find, drops are still crap most of the time, be it from dragon chests or open world, heck even dungeon chests.
Not to mention that the stated guaranteed loot from champions and improved loot from veterans.. is nowhere to be seen.
AND the fact that they seem to be purposely ignoring this issue. For what reason? I feel that a blogpost on this is in order! An official blogpost.

Then you are just lucky. I’ve done fractals up to level 12 (yeah low I know) countless jormag kills and got 0 exotic, 0 precursors so far. I’m close to Dungeon Master (only missing Arah exp now) and had 0 exotic drops in Dungeons so far. I’ve logged approx. 900 hours in this game and I’ve only had 2 exotic drops so far…. I don’t count zone completion and karka event exotics… Something is seriously wrong here. ^^
Just bring the gear treadmill back please… gear from hard dungeons/raids much better than RNG and Grind Wars…
I`ll leave it here. Tested some drops right after restart (hoping that DR resets on restart). Still got the same crappy drops as always since 11/15.
