Mesmer Illusionary Leap Bug Report
Especially #3 has always been an issue. <.<
Just started playing mesmer in PvP and i noticed this. I really need to use my stun and move almost in him to be able to use sword #3.

Confirmed, frustrating trying to chase runners in WvW when it fails.
Number 3 has been a thorn in my back for too long now. My greatest enemy in PvP isn’t a thief or a guardian, it’s a small incline.
Confirming skill 3 of 1h sword is bugged on mesmer. All mentioned in OP.
you have a typo in #3 it’s pathing not patching.
anyway please arenanet fix this, it frustrates me like nothing else in this game when i miss out on a kill because my illusion doesn’t reach my target because of horrible pathing issues.
@zcoob: Thx for notice. Corrected.
Need more of your feedback on this fellow mesmers!
Seconded.
Thirded.

fully agree. Great skill in PvE, horrible in WvW/PvP. It’s crucial for focus #5!
Agree, this needs fixed.
Please fix this asap
Please fix this soon. And take a look at Izerker as well.
Bug #4:
If our target dies while we are casting a phantasm, the illusion is not created but the skill goes on full cool-down anyway.
Why does this not act like any other skill that gets interrupted or canceled and just go on a 3 second cool-down?
On numerous occasions in WvW I’ve had skill #3 immobilize the enemy only for them to dodge away (while immobilized, with chain animations and all) when I follow up with skill #2. I’ve just started noticing it after this last patch. It’s really annoying to blow two skills in one go. Especially when I don’t even used Blurred Frenzy until after I’ve switched places with skill #3 clone. It’s happened multiple times. Anyone else experiencing this?
Thief | Mesmer | Elementalist
It’s incredible how such a short immobilize can have such an effect. But it does. I can effectively kill nothing now using sword/focus as everyone can simply outrun my clones and slowly AoE them to death.
I could switch to s/p for the stun and have no in combat speed, but I think I’ll just level an alt ’til this is fixed.
Please fix quickly, this is a bigger nerf to dps than nearly any number adjustment could create.
Yeah its bad enough being melee without a speed signet or maintainable swift. Fix this and then please make it 1200 range.
Regarding #3, iLeap has always needed work, so hopefully that is coming soon. It is one of the most unreliable and finicky spells in the game. Go on a bridge, stand to either side of the middle of it and try to send your illusion to the other side. It can’t get over the hump in the middle of the bridge. It can’t go up hill in any form.
As TakeCare.3182 said, I’ve noticed this too. It’s like the player can now dodge out of immobilize.
Edit: Actually, testing blade training and the cool down I do get a 9 second cool down with or with out it. Not 12s.

@Sorrow
Torch bug thread has separate topic: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-Prestige-not-blast-finisher-after-3-1 And there is already confirmation from Anet. They are aware of it.
Also iZerker has it’s separate thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-illusionary-zerker-Bug-Report Anet posted in that thread too so they are aware of it.
Let’s stick in this thread to Illusionary Leap bugs only. Hopefully we get some attention soon.

Please fix the iLeap… Very annoying that one of our only ways to stop runners doesn’t cripple anymore…
Fifth`d.
One handed sword, third skill bugs more often then not
Please fix, as long as it is nothing like the mess you made of Ele D/D 3 skill…

Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…

Signed. Please fix it Anet asap!

wow. just imagine how powerful this ability would be if it actually worked. it is one of our best skills and it almost never works..
if you give us illusions with elasticity + a working leap we would rule the world.
Totally agree. It’s very surprising that these bugs haven’t been fixed yet, especially considering how reliant mesmers are on this skill because of our low movement speed and the fact that it’s our only gap closer besides blink.
Any word yet on this bug?
We really need Anet response on this. At least that they are aware of it and fix is coming. Please don’t make us wait till next major patch by the end
of this month.
Forget iLeap, fix torches first.
Forget iLeap, fix torches first.
I’ve just started a Mesmer, and I love sword + torch. What’s wrong with the torches? Seriously I have no frame of reference here.
@Ross Biddle.2367 Archangelus.8671:
Torch is also bugged, but Anet is aware of this bug. Check this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-Prestige-not-blast-finisher-after-3-1
We only haven’t received confirmation on iLeap bug.
No response. I fail to be surprised. Fixing anything that would help a mesmer seems to always be low priority for Anet.
this needs to be brought to attention, a temporary fix would be fine, make the clone appear at your target so we can actually use this the way we want / would like.
Agree…Fix this bug, Anet! Please.
Would be great to get fixed. 3 ^ 2 ^ 1 in that order of priority. #3 makes the skill unreliable. The only workaround is to be right on top of them when it’s used which sort of removes half the utility from the skill.
After some testing it appears the immobilize is applied at the point of the swap, instead of at the beginning of the phantasm conjure.
Of course nobody will stay still long enough for that to happen…
edit: oops I’m getting confused. The immobilize has always been on swap, it’s the cripple that is not applying on skill use, thus letting enemies get out of the way of the immobilize on swap.

We need a fix ASAP!
Are months we’re in this situation…
i disagree with daishi quite a bit, 600 range is enough. and a 9 sec criplle isn’t needed either. the skill is fine as it is supposed to be atm, if it worked 100% of the time. the skill guarentees you a blurred frenzy and a 3 clone shatter which is really strong, no need to buff the ability into OPness. just fix the problem iLeap has and sword+X should be alot more fun than it already is.
I wouldn’t think at looking at changing the range until it is in a reliable state. Just wait until it’s always reaching the target before we change anything on Ileap’s range.
This completely destroys any shatter burst combo as it was already buggy to begin with.. The fact that it no longer cripples means that they obvious animation is just a huge cue to get out of the way.
1. The skill does not apply cripple as states in the Tooltip. (Since patch 1/3)
2. The skill is not affected by the trait Blade Training which is supposed to reduce CD of sword skills by 20%. The tooltip says 9.5s CD but it goes on 12s CD after use. (Since Release)
3. Pathing of the Illusion that Leaps acts bugged aswell when not using it on flat ground. It cannot make it on the ramps and over any small obstacles even If you’re in the line of sight and within range. (Since Release)
While we are aware of and working on number 1 & 2, number 3 is a technical limitation of our system and not a bug. Unfortunately, this is not something we can change as of this time.
Thank you for the reports! We hope to get these fixed in an upcoming patch.

Number 3 is the biggest issue with this skill. The skill becomes absolutely useless in many areas simply because of the terrain. Please at least simply teleport/create a clone at the enemy’s location that we can swap to (and have the clone spawn at the appropriate time).
I’ve started to run into players who will simply strafe around on stairways and ramps in WvW because they know I can’t immobilize them there. In my opinion, this is getting into exploit territory, as players have learned to use this bug as an advantage vs. sword mesmers.
if you cannot manage to fix #3 then change it to something that functions in the same way instead of not doing anything about it. let the illusion spawn next to the enemy and apply the cripple or something similar. but blaming your “system” and not even try to work the flaws out is unacceptable.
i actually had to edit this to make this even more clear. if you design something and expect it to only work sometimes ( not very often as the wvwvw maps aren’t flat ) then don’t put it in at all. who thought of that? that’s like constructing a car which brakes only work 30% of the time and tell my customers ( lol ) “deal with it”.
edit number 2:
if you don’t plan on fixing #3 please edit the tooltip to “only works reliably on flat terrain. use at your own risk otherwise”.

Exactly this. If due to technical limitations you can’t make the skill do what it says it does, then you need to change it to something you can do, spawn at target’s location.
I don’t imagine my company’s clients would appreciate it if we sold them our business intelligence software and when they installed it found out it only plays cat videos from YouTube because business intelligence is hard.

Thanks for the reply Jason! Is there a way to use the same “tech” that is used with “Scepter 1 (final chain)”, or “focus 5” to allow the phantasm to simply appear right next to the target while also applying the cripple?
It seems that the ability to fix the problem is already in the game from my (admittedly outside) perspective.
Thanks!
ya, turning the clone into a shadowstep would be better, and you have that in game already. or a leap that dosent leap back.. not sure if there are pathing issues with the swordsman.. but leap+cripple on hit and then stay at the target.
Well now that we know the big issue with iLeap I definitely agree that it needs a redesign… Since it is supposed to be instant-ish any way we can just get it to drop on target and cripple then swap… I mean staff phase retreat has no trouble with the z axis and blink really doesn’t either… So change the coding to the skill completely maybe? idk how possible that is.
Thank you for the reply Jason, it was very informative.
However, the #3 issue makes the skill usage so random in its results most of the times. I am mostly surprised when the skill does work than when not.
The suggestion by Kazi would be a good fix for it, replacing the clone “running” animation with it appearring after the time the “running” animation would need has passed next to the target.

The problem with making sword#3 spawn a clone next to the target like scepter/focus/GS is the interaction with portal. Mesmers won’t be trying to pull you off walls anymore; instead we’ll stand below walls, then wait for some unsuspecting guy to walk too near the edge and do a iLeap->swap->portal. Even cannons/oil can be used for this.
With luck, mirror blade can also spawn your clone beside a target that has just walked through a tower/keep door. If the same bug happens iLeap clones you’ll see mesmers spamming their iLeaps at people trying to duck into towers, hoping to get lucky.
The 2nd part of the chain (swap) would need a LoS-to-clone requirement added and even that might not be enough. All walls would probably have to be made taller.
It really sucks that our only melee weapon has such a crippling (hurr) bug, but I’d rather not have a much bigger problem.

/#3 is a npc pathing issue inherent to the game. Changing it would be really really hard to do. Even regular leaps have issue when leaping up hills occasionally, so the issue isn’t a purely mesmer one.
Edit: gaddamn stupid forum autocorrect, someone tell me the stupid escape key for this….

I don’t think solving this would be a problem with the currently existing LoS/pathfinding mechanism. Even if you fail to swap and immobilize, at least the clone gets to its target and cripples which is better than nothing.

Good point. I have never tried to do a swap up to a wall/ledge with the current skill and am curious if it works now. The swa kitten o short in it’s window I would imagine I would have to get the clone near an enemy on a ledge somewhere, drop down, then see if the swap lifts me back on the wall. Has anyone tried this?
If it doesn’t work now, then nothing needs to be done.
Still, I think a good short term fix is to have the SKILL apply the cripple, instead of the phantasm. This way you always get the cripple even if the phantasm does not get to it’s target. A full redesign/fix can come later.
