Just alter the wording each time you get blocked. they do it by phrase basis.

I’ve tried this. I was doing a dynamic event earlier on and I way typing things completely unrelated to finding groups and I still got my messages suppressed. I even tried logging on to another character and the message suppression was still active.

Agreed I get this problem all the time and its so annoying!

If I paste the same message in three times regardless of duration between them I get hit by “EM”. EM doesn’t leave my account for 24h (tested!) and even typing something completely different has no effect.

Relogging, switching character or going away for 30+ mins doesn’t help.

Example:
“Warr LFG CM Path 2” once every 5 minutes, after the third I get EM. Once I’ve hit EM I can’t type anything in, regardless of how I change the message. This affects me for /say and /map

I know I “can” change my message each time but I shouldn’t have to. Not when I’m leaving a 5 min gap between messages. (Usually shorter but I was testing.)

Would love a fix!

Not sure what you’re getting so upset about, mokaiba, I’ve used the LFG status as a last resort because I had no messaging available. It simply doesn’t work because nobody knows if you want to do story, “LFG” is very ambiguous and didn’t help to communicate that I wanted to do CoE explorable mode, even though I was in the map and area of the dungeon. The fact that some people are blocked from messaging for periods of over an hour may not be a bug, but it’s seriously effecting players in a purely negative way and should at least be looked into.

It might not be a bug, but it sure is a faulty system. Being offensive and blatantly rude is counterproductive, if you’re going to comment within the GW2 community why not try to be positive or helpful?

I am having the same problem. I am not “spamming” map chat becase it annoys me too, I use /say so only people near the dungeon entrance see it. And as others said, LFG does not say if you want to story or explo (and which path) ot if you are only looking for the last person, all in all, there is no room for addiotional information in LFG.

Spamming is not good. Thats for sure, but if somebody getting muted for longer than (for example) 20 mins, thats way too long! I guess its a bug. :/

This is an issue where I see both sides of the story have validity. On the one hand, I understand very well that players need to find groups for the various modes of the dungeons and that the current LFG system is badly inadequate. On the other hand, after spending the weekend working my way through Fireheart Rise and seeing the map chat being COMPLETELY overrun with “LFG story CoF” or “LFG explorable (insert path) CoF” messages, I understand why ANet felt they had to do something to get this under control.

The real solution, as I see it, is to bring back a version of the party search system that GW1 had in the outposts, adjusting it for the new environment so that it can be broadcast mapwide. Just click the “party” button in your contacts window, go to “story” or “explorable” and hey presto, you’re presented with a list of people who need groups. Of course, the issue would be that it wouldn’t really be applicable to areas that don’t have dungeons. I think that could be worked around, though…

Party search or party gather system. Not the teleport to dungeon kinda thing from WoW, but more where you sign up, and for what, and then you get assigned if there are 5 people available for that dungeon.

You still need to go to the WP outside the dungeon (or be in the zone) to get the invite to join in.

The suppression seems to work randomly. The goldspammers drone on and on, but normal conversation gets stopped. Trying to get people for a dungeon is not easy. If a dungeonfinder can’t be provided, perhaps there should be a LFG channel with no suppression mechanism.

I get this all the time and i hardly message at all. Sometimes the supression takes ages, 5-10mins, to go away, since patch today ofc.

Yep. Don’t thank people for healing you in events – that’s what does it for me. A quick “ty”, 6-7 times in succession, and suddenly you can’t chat at all for a few minutes.

Recruiting for a guild is made impossible by this. After 2 or 3 recruits you get blocked, and there is no way to continue recruiting.

Please fix this or make recruiting easier. It’s hard to get new people because everyone is in a guild, or people don’t read chat(if you aren’t blocked already)

I was looking for a dungeon group 5 hours ago or so in LA. I was messaging every five minutes. This triggered the suppression pretty quickly, in a half an hour.
After i was done with the dungeon i went offline for two hours. So i came back and started looking for another group. It took two messages for suppression to kick back in!

This needs to be fixed or a lfg/guild channel so people can post things like this.

I’m not sure if this is a bug or not, I know the mechanism is in there to tackle spam, but I didnt do any spamming, but although I was doing a shout for LFG to get members for a dungeon, it was not in anyway spammed and was probably repeated at no more than every 2 – 3 mins at the worst.

My (map) chat function was suppressed for nearly a whole 10 minutes, the other group member had the same issue after doing a shout for members and repeated his message in (map) chat twice in a space of around 8 minutes.

If this is intentional can we have an indication on how or when the suppression kicks in?

This needs to be removed. Its the worst thing when trying to group up without a LFG tool !?!

I’d like to add my name to the list of kitten victims by this bug. I’ve been having this issue for at least 3 weeks and I’ve sent two bug reports on it so far. Everyone says to just vary your words a little, but they don’t understand that THIS DOES NOT WORK IF YOU ARE ALREADY SUPPRESSED. Once suppressed, you are screwed. There is nothing you can do for at least an hour if not 2 or 3.

I literally type “LFG for CoE exp” and post it once into /map. 30 minutes later I type in the same thing. 30 minutes later I type it a 3rd time and get suppressed. Now. Recap. I’ve attempted to post no more than 3 small, simple messages in the space of 1 and a half hours. How this could be considered spamming is beyond me. I see guild recruitment spam every 90 seconds and they don’t seem to need to alter their words at all, they just copy/paste. At this point if I try to type in “Need group for dungeon explorable” I still get the suppressed message. If I try to type something completely unrelated to LFG like “Dude this suppression system is bullkitten” I still get suppressed. It does not go away for at least an hour. No amount of different words, phrases, character swapping, map changing, or re-logging fixes it.

TL;DR if you commit the atrocity of typing the same simple message (ex. “LFG”) more than once in 5 hours, you get the kitten knocked out of your freedom of communication. This needs to be fixed.

I get this literally every single time while trying to find a group for a dungeon. After 2 times of saying “lfg blah blah mode” I get suppressed chat. I have been suppressed for over 2 hours now. It’s ridiculous how strict this system is. Even if I change up the wording, it still suppresses me, making it impossible to find a group.

Please do something about this, not being able to chat is ludicrous….

I have the same problem ….. it’s driving me nuts . i cannot create any party or make any dungeons because i get suppresed after saying 2 times on map lfg ac exp at an interval of 10 – 15 min .

Please tone down your filter a bit, I mean it’s nice to have but come on I think the filter itself is a little excessive. I have been in Mad Kings Labyrinth telling people where the doors are at North East, South West, Champion up Center, Champion Up South East… anyways you get the point. I say this one or two times per a door, the freaking doors do not spawn that fast where it should put me on the kitten excessive messaging list for 20mins COME THE HELL ON, REALLY ANET?

Same problem here, just LFG before dungeon. I wrote it maybe once per 3 minutes or so and I was blocked. How am I supposed to find group?

I wrote two slightly different LFG lines in map chat with 10 minutes between them and got locked out of /map AND /say chat.

Can this be changed please? Still happening, I can’t even talk

So I have my status set to “lfg” but it never accomplishes the goal: getting in a group. Not kidding. Not once. Besides, I cannot say what I am looking for so it is not terribly useful even if it was remotely effective.

It turns out I am looking for the Mad King dungeon from LA. Everyone, and I mean everyone, yells “LFG MK”. So I do too. I do it three times within a two minute period and now my messaging is suppressed? Seems like I have to wait quite a long time before suppression turns off. What the hell ANet?!?

I mean, if we had a real LFG tool then I could understand. But as we do not have such a tool the only effective way to join a group is to yell out you want to join a group to do X.

I did it 2 times in map and 2 times /say and now I can’t say anything for the last 11 minutes. How long does this thing last?

how the f bomb are you supposed to do anything in this game chat wise like lead a wvw group or talk to people or broadcast an important announcement when your chat gets suppressed for the rest of the duration of your play time for typing 5 things.. completely different or w/e.

i got muted from /say and /map for over 40 minutes now can’t talk to people or say anything in WvW and i can’t log out to reset it because i’ll be kicked out of the queue because for some stupid reason the queue doesn’t get logged for you if you get disconnected or have to relog due to terrible programming and oversight.

I get the feeling that it resets the timer each time you try to say anything. So you can easily be screwed for hours trying to figure out what the threshold is. For me I am guessing it is around 20-30 minutes of pure silence then you can say something. Talk about being treated like children!

Logging out does not reset it. Neither does shutting down the game completely. At least, it didn’t for me. You are basically screwed. I get the sense that it is like 20-30 minutes. If you don’t say a single thing during that time then you can make a few chats. If you try to say anything during that time, the suppression timer resets. At least, that is how it seems to me.

Totally ridiculous.

Makes me think ANet is an “agile” shop and they don’t do much testing. Just push iterative changes on to their consumer base and let the consumer test their code for them.

I think that having it on /say is ridiculous in itself. Yes moderate the map channel, but /say shouldn’t be regulated the same way.

would love if anet even had something to say about this.

I like the party system in Guild wars way better than here.

Today I typed “lf1m” in /say to recruit another member for our CS group. Three minutes later (from the timestamp in the chat box) I typed it again and received the message that “Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging.” I hadn’t typed anything in /say for at least 30 min prior to my first /say and I was suppressed for five minutes. Asking around, others have had the same thing happen.

Meanwhile, I go to LA and see gold spammers shouting long messages for minutes on end.

Same thing happens to me :/ I really hope they fix this.

Relog, it happend to me last night. I also had an authentication error with the Black Lion until a relog fixed it. I mean totally log out of the game and game client.

I got the message suppression warning a few updates ago and was blocked from using /say for over 8 hours! The only way I could interact in chat was via custom emote. They need to fix this issue!

The LFG system in GW1 was superior. Be helpful if they did something similar.

So, I got to throwing in a support ticket for this since it’s just ridiculous… Send 3 messages in map chat and your messages are suppressed.

Here’s what they said:
“Thanks for contacting us.

We received your update letting us know that you still are unable to chat in the game. We would like to provide you with information that will help you address this situation. You account’s chat privileges have been temporarily suspended and the timer on that suspension is in GAME time, not in real-time hours or days. Therefore, logging off or waiting until the next day to rejoin the game will not remove the suspension. The way to regain chat privileges is to enter the game and remain silent, allowing the chat suspension to run its course.

I understand you might want to periodically check to see if you are able to chat again, but those lines of chat may actually extend the suspension, so we advise keeping those to a minimum. If you have refrained from using in-game chat for several hours and you still are unable to converse in the game, please update this ticket and we will do some additional research. However, we believe that you will be able to chat within a modest amount of time.

Thanks very much for your cooperation and understanding."

That is so bogus. I encounter this all of the time and once I could not use chat for well over 2 hours of game time. I did find a work around, of sorts – you can post to chat via custom emote.

Started a new static with friends, I bought us all some apple pie to celebrate and help out at the low levels. Took me over 15 minutes to send the pie to folks that were grouped up with me because after sending two I was suppressed for a while.

Is this as intended? If so it seems a tad over zealous. I’ve seen grumblings of similar on WvW for people that type in /m to organize the zerg. Is there any way to handle this other than waiting and hoping next time you try it’s good?

Okay, so it doesn’t just block say and map folks it blocks you from sending mail. As this is one of the few ways to trade items (other being a guild bank) in game, this is a huge annoying problem.

to add to this issue, there is no proper party making system other than voicing around in map chat and after 2 messages you will be out of luck. Please remove this excessive messaging issue.

I hate about this situation and it’s irritated everyone. Fix it immediately!

This is the worst thing in this game.
Today I wanted to start doing some dungeons but after i typed 3 times the lfg msg I got blocked, is so stupid to have this crap system in a game where there is no lfg system. After 1h I’m still banned from the chat.
The more i play the more i realise i made a mistake buying this game. DR/No lfg/message suppression/huge grind/gambeling all over the place/tones of bugs/stupid balanced dungeons/broken wvwvw/every patch fix 1 thing and bugs 2-3 other …
Realy Anet get your kitten together we payed for a game and we got a alpha state game full of stupid things, not to mention that this game was advertised as a “casual game” and has the most grind i have ever seen in a mmo.

While I’m not as angered as the guy above me, I do agree with the system being a bit restrictive.

I’ve also experienced being muted by EM for several hours on end.
This has been after 3 LFG messages in map.
When trying to ask in party chat if someone else can ask, I often hear that they too are silenced by EM.
It seems the system could use some tuning.
