Mobs not rendering with today's patch.
Beware of the all mighty wings. There are coming for you muahahahaha.
Now seriously, I can confirm this.

I’ve had gravelings in the ascalonian catacombs “flicker” (turn completely invisible momentarily) as I am attacking them, though their name and health bar remain visible the whole time.
Here’s a picture. Same scene. Moas would only render when I put my mouse cursor over them. When I removed my cursor from them they would vanish again (although the wings would remain).
This is not just limited to Moas, by the way. Many different types of mobs were doing it. My friends I was adventuring with were seeing the exact same problem.
Wonder if this is tied in with NPC characters glitching like this (keeps seeing parts of people disappear and then reappear).
Been seeing this for a while but it’s gotten really bad lately. Seems the culling just keeps getting worse.

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one experiencing this…
I just started playing again recently and just came across this bug for the first time… the funny thing is i was playing when a windows update popped up and force minimized my screen and I accidentally clicked and it restarted my computer and when i came back in i went to this area and saw this… and thought my game was corrupt or something. I guess not though seems like others are getting this as well? I ran the repair tool as well and didn’t do anything.
I didn’t have this particular problem prior to yesterdays patch, so something changed on ANet’s end.
The rendering issue seems to have gotten worse after the latest patch. I would have issues with mobs not rendering before on events near Pentinant camp and such. But now it feels like we’re back on the major event “Lost Shore” where the Karka would suddenly appear right on top of everybody.
Agreed and confirmed, its worse than ever for me. Culling worse, mysteriously invisible mobs when viewed at cetain angles and FPS drops all over the place.
Some feedback on this would be nice. Is ANet aware of this new problem and working on a fix? Is it an incompatibility with specific driver versions? Something? It’s not fun running through a field of hostile mobs that become invisible depending on how you swivel your camera, regardless of distance.

Oddly enough I noticed this in one of my character portraits at the bottom of the character selection screen. It was the first portrait which needed to be scrolled to, so I assumed that it was related to that (and it may be) but I suppose it could also be this. It was a sylvari necro. The clothes and the eyes rendered but not the rest of the head — very spooky.

No mention of the amazing aerobatic moas in Lion’s Arch?
I wouldn’t mind that particularly hilarious bug hanging around a bit longer. It had our guild in stitches for a good while after the patch hit.
Yeah, this is the culling thing that’s been going on for months, and like clockwork gets worse with each major patch.
Portraits half loading at the character select screen? Yep, been seeing that since launch.
Happens more often with Sylvari than any of the others
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Same here, glad its not only me.
Is this because of a DX platform update?
Maybe this is related to the issue?
That’s hilarious
I saw the floating moas in Lion’s Arch too and wondered what was going on. At first I only saw one and thought it might have been a hacking Ranger. Lol nope.
FOR PONY!
lol, those moas are out of control

While amusing, the flying Moa bug in Lion’s Arch is probably not related to the topic of the thread. There’s also other threads about it, and I’m concerned discussing it here further will cause confusion regarding the rendering bug being reported here.
Attached is another example of the rendering bug that appeared with the recent patch this week. As shown, the visibility of these two Skale seems to randomly come and go as I make minor adjustments to my camera.
There is actually an entire field of Skale here, including several not far behind these two, all displaying the same problems. Obviously that makes it difficult to find a safe place to stand.

Culling.

Same thing happens with Environment details like rocks on cave floors (skrittsburg), bushes, debri, etc. I’ve noticed it since launch. Haven’t seen it so bad on Mobs though. Its ruins any chance at beauty this game has when you see it :*(

Problem with blaming it on culling is two-fold.
1) The problem was introduced with the February 26th patch and did not exist prior to that. The changes to culling were introduced in the patch on January 28th.
2) The problem is happening even in areas that are completely devoid of players and/or only have a handful of mobs in them. You might not be able to tell in my screenshots, but there really wasn’t anything particularly interesting happening in those scenes.
I’m sorry if I cost you an interview. :P

The environmental details I have seen since launch, but I suspect that is more a problem with just an extremely short visible distance that is purposely chosen, and a lack of LODs to view these objects out further. I see it a lot with stumps that only render when you’re within a few meters of them.

Well, technically, if the problem is culling, then it was introduced when the game launched. Hah. It’s the same system, they’ve just been modifying the back-end as they see fit (I assume to improve it). They rolled out a big change on 1/28, but I’m pretty sure they said they were still going to be tweaking it. IIRC.

Pssh, what? Stealthed Moas and sentient wings are pretty darn interesting, to me anyways.

Confirmed since launch; though some rocks, etc. do actually disappear depending on the camera angle, even up close. However, I have seen this in many games past. Not sure what to blame on that one.
I suspect they’re going to come back and say “driver issue”.
