I was in the area when the Defense of Nebo Terrace event popped up, so I went in to loan a hand.
At least one of the attacking waves (at the WEST gate, I believe) consisted entirely of Veterans, Elites, and a Champion!
There were only a couple of players there, so I’m guessing the event scaling is glitchy here. They took over Nebo, and the tough guys ran off leaving a group of “normals” to occupy the town. But for awhile there, I thought I was back in the Queen’s Pavilion.
I have to say that Nebo Terrace is WAY over the top. I’ve seen temples go easier than the Nebo Terrace defense. It needs to be turned WAY down. I’m all for having it harder, a champion, GREAT!! But when nearly everyone on the map is part of the dead body pile, one has to wonder if someone is trying to get back at the players. This is the type of behavior that is making me consider playing this game, anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this game… but the attitude received by the players is slowly turning negative. Keeping in mind, I came to this game because I knew the programmers played the game and wanted to keep the attitude for the gamers positive. I think that at least some of the people at Anet (programmers and managers alike) need to take a look at why they’re here. I miss the old Anet. I want it back.
Yep. Participated in one of these. Everything was going fine, until the wave of trampling champion centaurs came in. About a dozen players went from all alive to all dead faster than you could say “Hey guys, it’s tramplin’ time!”
I don’t mind difficult events. Helped with the capture of the Temple of Balthazar earlier today (one fail, one success). But Nebo Terrace is just… harsh.
Then again, I do have to admit that it may just be a factor of getting used to the way it works. I think it would be interesting to see the ratio of fail/success after a week or two. Right now, it seems like 100% fail/0% success, but I have to wonder if that will change as time goes on.
Few people bothered with this event chain to begin with before the patch. I wonder how many people will bother with it, now that it is a guaranteed wipe?
Just FYI, there was a thread started on this subject a day before this one: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Event-out-of-control/first#post4403636. This is a duplicate subject.
Several hours after my post I saw the game update notes that confirms the addition of these bad boys. I don’t mind the addition of more challenging content, but it has to be scaled to the number of players. When I first saw the Champ behind the wall of Vets, I figured the Zerg must have appeared behind me and elevated the level of the contest. But when I looked back, there were only a couple more people in town beside myself. No sensible scaling was going on here.
I can handle multiple Vets. I can often solo a Champ if I can take away his support. But this tide rolled in unexpectedly and it looked like more waves appearing behind it. Unless the players organize a regular defense, then whenever I see “Nebo Terrace is Under Attack!” I will let it get buried and then re-take it from the occupying forces from now on.
Not shown: Me getting slaughtered seconds later at the hands of more than ten veterans, five elites, and three champions. I have a theory that it’s supposed to be like this, though. I can’t imagine why, but maybe it’s meant to fail.

Not sure why this image made me laugh.
Might just be the unnecessary
“Stay down!”, from the centaurs.
3 vs vets and elites.

Whoaa, some more challenge is always good but this looks like a genocide. It seems like it’s not the only suffering of this bad scaling. An event at Strait of Devastation simply wiped all players there in around 30 secs or so. So soon the even poped up 2 champs came rounded by a few Vets and just 1 hit from the champ was enough to take off 90% of our health and get us downed. After dying and rallying several times it even would take a single hit to get a instant death. Just 30 secs after the event started there was around 15 or so players dead there. It even was just an escort lvl 74 event!
From these images, I think it’s obvious just how much the Centaurs want Nebo Terrace.
Look at how much effort they’re putting in!
Who are we to stand in their way?
The funny part?
Recapturing Nebo Terrace from the occupying centaurs is a cake walk. All the champions and elites run away, leaving some regular squishy centaurs to hold the town.

Actually yes that’s very true. I imagine they wanted to make the ‘defend’ part challenging, but probably coded it very poorly in haste with absolutely bizarre scaling.
Retaking Nebo is fine, as stated
Well… it’s either some iffy balancing by the devs or poor tactical decisions by the centaurs.
1 champion
2 elites (each one can kill me in two hits so with two of them it doesn’t end well. hard to see the attacks in the sea of veterans anyway. Then there is the constant launches. WTB stability!)
pile of veterans
3-5 players …
Then you get to the second phase with the trampling. -_-
Reward: 1 rare?
The fight reminds me of WvW when the matchups were completely broken.
Yeah, I know this is meant to be a “world boss” style event now, but it just feels majorly out of place and overlevelled. As others have mentioned, it’s so much easier just to let the centaurs capture the town and then retake it afterwards.
Encountered this for the first time last night. Yeah, it’s a right kitten, but with a zerg on your side it’d probably be a great farming opportunity.
Remember the goal of the event is not to slaughter all centaurs, but to hold the village. If you can keep someone in the circle at all times, it’s still possible to win.
