Personal Story: Forging the Pact bug (blocking progress)
12 pages of problems with this part of the story line with a HUGE amount of players stuck on this step should be an indicator that there is a problem with this. My wife has done this part over 7 times now and it keeps bugging out on the part to protect Traherne at the south gate.

did it after the 6th or 7th time.
once I got to the cave, I didn’t aggro anything. let the party pull then hit.
killed the boss, let the party set before I talked to anyone.
continued to let them aggro and pull as I followed, attacking only after the group pulled.
joy as they followed me the whole way…
This is getting pretty ridiculous. I’ve tried this quest six times now or better and nothing. What could possibly be the problem with fixing this? I’m really not one to complain about game bugs, especially with something as complex as this game, but it’s very frustrating to be stuck.

Still bugged for me too (after mantainance today); NPCs do not follow to south gate, which subsequently does not unblock.
On a moot point, Trahearn is a terrible NPC, despite a huge devastating sword he dies constantly. Giving a scholar a melee weapon wasn’t the Pale Tree’s best idea.
Had another go and managed to finish the story this time (phew!). Followed some suggestions from this thread: moved quite slowly, making sure the NPCs followed me closeby, and (mostly) waited for the enemies/NPCs to initiate the attacks (I don’t know if this has any real influence, though). Anyway, this way I ended up initiating some additional dialogue already with the first research team. Before I assume I had rushed up too fast, but this time I took my time to defeat all the mobs and moved up rather slowly. I heard Trahearne (if I remember correctly) talk about the barricades more than I had before, and I also got some additional dialogue from the NPCs in the camp, concerning the undead, how they were coming in waves, and how they were going to kill us.
After dealing with the waves of undead I hunched to the right side of the path and got to the cave entrance without aggroing the respawned mobs on the outside area. Went in, killed what was between me and the second team (the abomination as well), and went to the end of the little corner where the team was. There I chatted with the leader of the team, asking him both about the team and the artifact, and so I got the option to escort them both out (before, it had only been about escorting the team). Waited for Trahearne to give his little speech before going ahead, again letting the mobs/NPCs to attack before I did (though, my minions were bit active at few points). Had everyone to follow me, Trahearne summoned his minions, and altogether everything went fine, finally.

Having a similar issue. A month ago when I did this with my main character I ran into the stuck issue but was able to get out of it after running in and out a few times.
This time on my alt after clearing the cave half the NPCs didn’t follow me at all. So I ran around killed a bunch more monsters let the NPCs die, then rezed them and tried to continue. Got another one or two to follow me but still several of them were stuck inside the cave or some outside by the area where you have to push off the attack when you find the first group of survivors. Could never get the “this cave exit is blocked” to fire off so after 30 minutes of trying I gave up.
On a personal note, this is is just stupid that a month has passed and this still hasn’t been fixed. The personal story was one of the main highlights to get people into this game and every other mission seems to be bugged in one way or another. There are no more excuses at all for this especially over a month later. But hey, at least main efforts were put in to stop people from getting armor skins too quickly from dungeons or from farming events. sigh.
Ok I finally got it done, Stay on the path and don’t believe the green circles. The first place you go to where all the guys are dead you have to wait, dialog log will appear stating such, don’t go from there. Run to the back wall 3 more will spawn. Kill them then proceed. At the blockade wait for the guys running up behind you. Once they are dead do not go up the hill until the little lady up there yells for help. Once up there just kill all the spawns as they come, once they are all dead stay up there untill you have someone else chat. When you follow the little fellow down the hill you can just avoid the guys prior to the blocked entrance. Killing as you go to the abomination once he is dead wait again until you see more dialog. After I talked with him I took the advice and only proceeded far enough to get the group to agro then let them clear the way. Frankly I don’t think that step was necessary as they were all trying to leave already when I talked to Dobbs. I cleared all the way down to the blockade and Traherne did his chat, we then fought or way back out of the area and it finished.
Completed with 2nd character this week. This bug seems totally random.
It took me 2 tries to get through this one. Someone mentioned that Traehern can’t die so I just made sure that every time he went down I rez’d him. He died quite a few times for me but as long as I made sure he was up before progressing to the next point everything triggered properly.
After reading this thread I managed to get it done. I walked through the cave and none of the NPCs got stuck.
I am stuck, so this is till issue. I have cleared the cave and at the south entrance of the cave, nothing happens. We all just stand there. I cirlced back through- could not get all researchers to follow (one even says for me to go on without him). All undead are dead. I went back to entrance and wennt to south exit. I killed all the undead waiting outside the gate and went back in..to the south gate. Still just stand there. No teleports or anything. The thought of doing this again is sad.
Omg so much rage at this quest right now. I completed this on my main the first week of release fine.
I just did it twice on my guardian and it bugged both times at the cave part!
I can’t believe this thread was starting 28 days ago and it’s still messed up. This is already an annoying quest with no bugs because of insane trash mob hp, but now I just wasted 30 minutes killing trash for nothing.
Literally rage quit and not playing the rest of the night.

Yup, still broken here too. My first attempt (ever) on Oct 06th resulted in the second team refusing to follow me to the exit. Not going to attempt this again until it is actually fixed, it’s a long mission!
Finally completed the quest on the 6th attempt. I think I’ve pinpointed the bug: don’t rush ahead when you see the first barrier (on the way to the first team). Trehearne says something and then is supposed to clear it, only when it’s clear should you move ahead. and at the top of the hill, make sure you enter the house to trigger additional dialogue. In the cave I moved with the group and not ahead of them, which seemed to help. Also, Trehearne says something after you talk to the second team guy, and then they all follow you. If he doesn’t speak, you might as well restart.
Good luck to anyone still stuck on it.
I’ll try to follow some of the advices, but all this situation is definitely embarassing.

This is embarrassing for A-net. Were it just a side quest, it would still be annoying that it blocked zone clearing, but this is a main quest line. The point where a significant quest is bugged, and blocks you from advancing the story for a MONTH without repair, is the point where I consider cutting my losses at the $80 for CE, and not wasting my time with a broken game. What a shame – a great game being killed by poor support.
EDIT: Today’s patch seems to have fixed it, I was able to complete the quest.

I just wanted to tell you that I could complete the quest on the first try after the last patch. To be on the safe side, I ensured that Traherne didn’t die on the way to the second explorer team.
Hmm, it´s very strange, but the party is following me, but after the last battle with the last boss, a few seconds befor he is killed, my computer turns off and I´m not able to finish this quest..it’s happened already 3 times…
I suppose, because of this exact timing, it´s a bug and has nothing to do with my hardware or software ..
could somebody confirm a similar experience?
Just tried this for the second time (first time about 3 weeks ago it bugged same way as almost all of you have told) and now I could finish it without any problems. Hopefully it works now properly for you guys too

Well… I can’t even ENTER the cave where the 2nd team is in. Barrels blocking the way for two attempts in a row now.
How many months has it been since release?…
Middle of January 2013 and Ive just bugged out on my 6th run through this mission. This is rediculous, submitted a ticket, though if this has happened since launch I’m guessing ANet does not care about being able to complete the game at all?
I give up with this quest. My game client crashes every time I try doing this quest. Attempted 7 times today. Different spots and big lag spikes. Pathetic that this hasn’t been fixed yet. This is unacceptable.
I haven’t had any internet issues with Guild Wars 2 nor any other game so far, but during the “Forging the Pact” story line quest, I always disconnect shortly after Trahearne summons the elite minions. This is near the end of the instance I believe, and it preventing me from advancing in my story line. (And makes me redo the entire long instance again every time I try)
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I’ve had this happen to me a total of 5 times now. 3 times with a friend, once solo, and another solo run on a different computer. Each time at different parts of the quest. During one of the solo runs, I got the final boss down to 10% health and got disconnected! Please fix this!
I am also suffering this issue myself. The latency occurs when you enter Rankor ruins and is most prevalent for me at the first group of undead or when Trahearne summons the elite minions. Tried a total of 8 times tonight with 0 success.
I am having the problem as well. It is very frustrating.
I’ve had the same problem twice now – both yesterday and today.
For me, the disconnect happens at what I believe is the very end of the mission. After Trahearne summons his minions we fought back to the original entrance, where I lose connection.
Teamspeak kept working fine, so the issue seems unrelated to my internet connection.
This happens to me as well. It is after the south exit is found blocked. I have noticed that the game locks up after the first of the Veteran Risen Hyleks is killed and the second has been knocked to about half health. It happens no matter which one is killed first.
Reloading the game does not help.
This is happening to me as well. I can’t get past the quest at all after 6 attempts today. The quest is soooo long which makes it worse dealing with. I am temped to return the game to Target if this isn’t fixed.
I can also confirm this issue as well along with two other guild mates. All of us have been going though the story together, until we got to this quest. All of us (at one point or another) have disconnected in this mission, making it impossible to finish. One of us even disconnected on the load screen. Submitted a bug report. Seems like this issue is recent… probably a result of the last update.
The quest is bugged, and since its a required quest for ALL players…hopefully AN sees this and fixes it soon. Or at least tell us it will be fixed? >.<
Edit: We tried about a dozen times, all of us disconnected at one point or another until we just gave up

Attempted this quest with two friends about seven times, same issue. We switched back and forth who started the instance and I’ve noticed that for the most part it’s whoever initiates the quest that disconnects. Not really helpful info for players, but maybe a small help to AN so they can fix this problem.
Edit: Also, there doesn’t appear to be a specific point at which it disconnected us. One of us disconnected during what i think was the last fight, then again just after Trahearne summons his minions, then once even on the loading screen. The only pattern i can see is that the more often we attempted it, the earlier on in the quest we’d disconnect.

Bumping and renewing this thread due to the fact that a moderator merged our issues (About a disconnect from the game during this mission) with the pre-existing issue of Trahearne breaking and what-not.
I will hope that any AN employee or moderator will notice the separate issue and reply in a separate fashion. Though, we haven’t been able to progress in our games for almost a week now…If a reply is not made, I will assume that it is because our problem is getting lost in a pre existing problem, and will make a new thread.
Really wish this would get fixed just want to continue with the story line . Keep this bumped

The quest as a whole I have got about halfway through i reckon and no further . Just keep getting disconnected which is a pain in the backside starting all over again. Tried it about 6 times yesterday all 6 times getting disconnected at various times
The first time, my lag began as soon as I entered the ruins. Several frequent near-disconnects that led to a big me-booting disconnect as Trahearne summoned his minions. Every subsequent attempt I’ve made it to the boss outside the cave, but never past him. Five attempts so far. Only time I ever have connection issues with GW2 is in this personal story instance.
I am having the same problems with this. I have done it 5 times now. The first time I got stuck with the movie/film icon above my ranger’s head after leaving the cave and had to relog. The other 4 times I got kicked from the server after Trahearne’s minions. It’s frustrating because I cannot progress with the storyline. I hope it will be fixed soon.

The disconnect happens at completely random parts of the quest. Sometimes the crash occurs at the beginning of the quest in the fort. Another time in the caves. One time a disonnect happened when the final boss enemy was at 15% health….which was particularly frustrating…..
Anyone try this quest since the restart last night? I don’t want to start a 40 minute quest just to get disconnected when the last boss is at 10% for a 7th time.

Appears to have been fixed. I was getting this issue, at random points, successfully completed it tonight. Good luck, hope its fixed for all.
I am also having the same problems with repeated disconnects. In general I don’t know why you can’t go back to a checkpoint when you disconnect. The same as if you die. It is ridiculous to have to do a story instance of this length over and over. It is one of the biggest problems with GW2, how unforgiving and unhelpful it is if you hit technical problems.
Necro’ing because It stalled for me rights before Zrii should blow up the barricade. Agent Zrii after the horde of undead leaving me with time lost and frustration. :/
Also: Thanks for allowing the barricade to be hopped over – only to be teleported. :O
Got this quest bugged too. Looks like after a year this quest is still very buggy !
Objective : “Retrieve the second research team.”
Can’t go in the cave, the crates are blocking it (and Agent Zrii is … not here to destroy them !). I looked for her, but seems like she disappeared :c
Guess I need to do it again from the beginning …
(Note : according to the wiki, it may be because Zrii died before Trahearne’s speech)
