I can’t believe the complete apathy on ArenaNet’s part with this. I paid good money for a Deluxe Edition pre-order on this game and I’m stuck at this junction of my main storyline quest and to my knowledge, MANY people have been complaining about this from the very start and ArenaNet has not even responded to the effect that they are at least trying to resolve this issue. As for keeping Traehern alive through the quest, that is just stupid and nearly impossible for all but the most skilled players at or about Level 60.
Although the game should not be too easy, it should at least be able to be accomplished with reasonable expectations for all who buy it and staying alive yourself is hard enough at that level but having to babysit a careless NPC at the same time, just amounts to a broken game and poor design on the developers part.

Just tried it again, 2nd research team doesn’t move even when the whole cave is cleared. There’s bone walls blocking all southern entrances but that doesn’t stop a true mountain goat. I got south of the bone wall you are supposed to get through (I think), and still nothing happens.

Trahearne says I just need to defend him while he summons reinforcements, but he doesn’t do anything, lazy kitten that he is.

Just did some extra testing.

Climbing straight to the first research team instead of where the quest tells you to go doesn’t trigger anything.
Climbing straight to the first research team after looking at the initial location (with the dead npc’s), skipping the 3 barricades, doesn’t trigger anything.
Going into the cave before triggering the search for the 2nd research team means the only monster there is the Veteran Savage Abomination. He is invulnerable but will become killable when you get close.
The 2nd research team hasn’t spawned yet, though if you kill the Veteran monster, the quest will tell you to talk to the leader of the 2nd research group (but he isn’t there). Crusader Afanen will get stuck.
If you then pick up the 1st research team and enter the cave through the southern entrance(not letting Zrii plant a bomb), the 2nd research team will have spawned.
The Veteran Abomination will have respawned, is invulnerable again and will stay invulnerable. Multiple npc’s are invulnerable aswell, causing an endless/pointless fight for all eternity, once again making it impossible to complete the mission.

Because of this mission i am unable to get POI in Fort Trinity which is un lockable only through personal story. I am stuck on 99% for world map.

It seems I’ve got the same bug too. The NPCs in the cave won’t move. Trahearne is the only NPC who follows me in the cave after meeting the researchers, but the southern exit is blocked and nothing else happens. I would guess a cutscene is meant to happen here and it’s not triggering because there’s a bunch research team further back in the cave who need to be there. So now after a very long instance, my progress is blocked.

Simply incredible. From the rapidly respawning NPCs, to the terrible wave based combat, this mission is just an utter failure in every regard. The fact that it cannot even be completed when a single NPC dies (and let’s face it, it’s not like self preservation is high on their AI behaviour list) AND ArenaNet haven’t even responded to this thread is beyond belief.

Creating a mission that requires you to shephard kitten NPCs is already a massive design fault, escort missions are NEVER a good thing, this was established, oh, I don’t know, 10 years ago? If you ARE going to do escort missions, you betterkittenwell make sure your AI is up to the task, and clearly, the AI in this game is incredibly badly implemented. I would be ashamed of myself if I produced AI at the level of quality exhibited in this game for any publisher.

Rapidly respawning NPCs are yet another poor design decision, in the best case scenario, the player will complete the otherwise shallow and lacking content in twice the time they normally would, but in the worst case scenario they’ll simply give up as they’re unable (or more likely unwilling) to advance. Once again, rapidly respawning mobs are something that most other video games stopped doing, because they employed quality control.

In conclusion, this is yet another hideously executed mission in a long line of poorly scripted and poorly designed “story” encounters.

Don’t even get me started on the voice acting.

STILL the exact same behaviour.

After dozens of ridiculous strafe fights the second team doesn’t budge. All the NPCs are good for is pulling too much mobs and then stand idly by while the player gets beelined by up to 6 risen at a time.

I got a whole of 3 drops out of the whole instance. Repair costs for ONE piece of armour are around 1,5 silver for my (by now) level 80 elementalist. Add to that the run/teleport to the start of the instance and this quest is nothing more than a frustrating time and gold sink.

I simply can’t believe you have been unable to reproduce/fix this bug for WEEKS now.

Also: All risen grubs now produce the “this content has been temporarily disabled” error message in chat when they die. Their behaviour (epileptic twitching right and left after they spawn) is unchanged.

As of 9/25 even with the updates, Still the same problem. Kill everything in the cave, The 2nd team simply stands there and won’t follow you out of the cave.

Will say the fixes did make the quest a bit easier, But that team won’t follow you out of the cave, Also There is a Toon stuck under a chest, Not sure if thats supposed to be there. Its in the spot the 2nd team will NOT leave, against the wall,

Go the the end, its blocked off, team stays in that spot. I sure hope they get if fixed. Frustrating.

I can’t believe this. This quest is still bugged for me. After a total of ~5 tries, I think I’m finally giving up. The research team just does not move after I defeat the ettin boss and am asked to escort them.

3rd try – Team is still stuck, after looking back at the screenshot it may have been because I didn’t revive trahearne (see minimap)

4th try – After defeating the several zerg undead waves, after skipping the cutscene I’m teleported in between one of the walls at the stone house at the top of the hill. I’m stuck and am forced to try again.

5th try – Playing conservitavely, taking my time, going at a slow pace making sure my entire team is alive and with me. I arrive at the cave, defeat the boss, rescue the team but the team is STILL stuck (even after clearing the entire cave).

I can’t find a second person to do this with to at least see if that works. No one wants to bother since this quest has a reputation of being bugged. I can’t consistently ask on map chat since I get suppressed for saying LFG Forging the Pact several times in a while.

One more thing to add, now whenever I kill Risen Grub in the cave I get the message “That content has been temporarily disabled. Please try again later.”

Please shoot me now, This morning I grabbed my coffee and sat down to play, I giggled like a school girl when I saw a update. But still then I said to myself wait better go look and see if its fixed. Well they didn’t specifically say this one is working but they said they fixed many.
What the heck I am going to succeed this time I am sure of it! Well it started the same as usual, I practiced cpr on the first dead npc even though in the back of my mind some crazy woman’s voice was yelling " Nooo Dont!". As I went up the hill to the second mob I see a message in red saying " that content has been temporarily disabled" Im thinking " omg please let that be them working around the bugs" Well silly me after 10 of those messages, and dragging that abomination half way down the hill so the kiddies are closer to where I want them to be it happens again, as soon as the monster is dead Kekt runs back into his corner and wont budge. And btw I dont have any friends that want to waste the time doing my personal story line.

Something is wrong when your entire party is killed (multiple times) and you are left alone with broken armor because you get constantly rapped by npc zergs. After my 5th try, I give up…

This is ridiculous. I’m up to about 20 tries on this quest since “fixes” have been put in place. Last research group continues to just stand there. There is absolutely no reason that I should have to wait another whole week for a patch, especially when you say you have identified the problem. Sorry, but that’s just flat out ridiculous.

Have wasted way too much time/gold on this ONE quest, without compensation and without actual fixes. Something needs to be done NOW.

Back to Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2…

I am so ******* tired of this. They say it’s fixed, but it still bugs. This is my 4th time wasting my time on this. It is REALLY frustrating and it’s pissing me off. Atleast make it that when we leave the instance, we do not have to do everything all over again. Thank you.

Adding my name to the long list of people who can’t play the game because this quest is bugged.

I can’t even enter with a party member. Whenever I try to enter the instance, It doesn’t give ANY of my party members the option to join it, I just zone to the mission automatically.

After reaching the end, totally naked and broke, it was heartbreaking to watch as the NPCs stood there smiling at the walls. I never want to play this quest again but, alas, I’ll have to do it with EVERY character aspiring to finish the personal story.

still bugged.. I must have done this quest atleast 10 times minimum on my ranger..
traherne don’t die but the reseracher just stand there as usual after you talk to them ( after you kill the veteran ).

I did clear the cave from all mobs before I killed the Veteran ( though few spawn after you talk to the Resecherser )

I’m really dissapointed and I’m loosing interst in playing the game .
I cant complete the 70-75 zone because I need a POI that I can only reach when doing the personl storyline.

Getting a decent back uppgrade from later in the questline is alson not possible.

I got my quest to work on my 2nd try. After defeating the veteran abomination during the 2nd research group rescue in the cave, let the research crew settle down at their designated places before talking to the Asura (forgot what his name is).

This is may not be a legit solution but it worked for me.

I was just able to complete this. Not sure what I did that worked but here are the steps I took. I completed everything normally up to the cave and then

1 – I entered the cave and triggered the grubs but I did not ever hit a grub myself. I let my party kill them all as i attacked the other enemies. This stopped the ‘content unavailable’ message.

2 – I stayed to the right and went right to the 2nd group without clearing the cave first. After I killed the boss there I found a little passageway thru a spider web that I went down just a bit and that triggered a conversation I hadnt heard before.

3 – I moved with the group and led them from enemy to enemy the rest of the way through the cave. It appeared as long as they fought they didn’t run back to the starting stop.

I’m not sure which of these did it but Im guessing it was #2. The dialogue happened with the whole team appearing to head down the wrong passage. Guessing maybe the trigger point is off even though the star updates.

Unfortunately when I finally had gotten to the very last boss my computer decided to shut off with about 10 seconds left before I killed him so I’m headed back to retry it. I’ll let you know if I make it through again.

Just completed this. Only issue was the stupid grub’s being bugged(seems to be their loot that is bugged at the moment, and didn’t affect my ability to complete the mission)

I was able to complete this today after the patch, twice with different characters. Once on my own playing necro and once in a duo playing warrior. Trahearne dying didn’t appear to make a difference as he probably went down about 3 times when I was playing the necro. The NPCs in the cave actually followed me this time. However, I got a new bug with a repeated popup message of ‘that content has been disabled’.

Was so looking forward to this patch in the hopes that I could finally complete this damnable quest with my character, but after reading how many people are still experiencing this bug, I just don’t even feel like trying. I’m not about to deal with a quest that gives the player some of the most incompetend AI ever seen in a game just to rack up loads of death penalty/armor repairs with the very small chance of avoiding the glitch.

Please, for the love of God, just let us skip this quest until it’s fixed for good!

Honestly, I didn’t have a problem with getting through forging the pact, but then again I went in a number of levels over the quest requirement, with a full compliment of food, repair canisters and revive orbs, just in case. I believe I killed all the enemies as well, and rather easily too. Oh, FYI this was on a theif.
