Please fix the Mad King Says game....
It… does not. I believe there is “Mad King Says” and “no Mad King Says” variants for every emote, and you get a random selection each round.
I distinctly remember (from this year) “You should act SURPRISED!” “Did you hear me say ‘Mad King Says’? No!” and other such strings.
The “Mad King Says” ones are in the majority (I guess to give people enough to do to not get bored) but the other ones are definitely in there!

I’ve done that event several times this year (and last) and there have always been times when he hasn’t said “Mad King Says.”
The current script is fairly accurate imo. If you recall from your childhood, a clever strategy for the designated “Simon” was to offer 90% “simon says” or 90% without “simon says,” trying to trip everyone up by making them complacent, i.e. what the French call, “Le Fake Out.”
I also recall a few moments where he says like “you should KNEEL. Wait, did I say Mad King say? No!” and for me it’s not a bug, just another way to fool inattentive players. Also, from what I recall it never “killed” players for doing it at wrong moment. It just knocked down and took almost the whole health but never an instant death.
He’s not nearly as fast or sneaky about it anymore. Only TWICE did he not precede it with “Your Mad King says…” (big pause).
New Player Experience again? More “dumbing down” of Guild Wars 2? More of the “everyone’s a winner” mentality? No challenge = no fun.
EDIT: I used to have a sweat-soaked keyboard when I finished that game. This year, dry as a bone. Never once came close to missing one.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

Oh boy, I’m afraid it could be involved… no more dumbing down “pliz”!?
