I really wish this would get fixed soon…Im trying to level my second ranger at the moment and dungeon groups are giving the boot because of pets being broken right now..

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.

On further inspection, ranger pet “avoid combat” seems to work if you click it after your initial attack to call your pet to retreat. This is still quite impractical. Please fix this nasty bug.

Check your pets again, it might have been a back end bug, as mine seem to be working as intended now, at least it doesn’t just randomly attack things as I run by they…as it was when the bug was first introduced.

DISCLAIMER – Not saying it was fixed without a notice, just saying that mine did Avoid Combat tonight, even when I was attacking something.

Yep, I just read the patch notes and came here to voice an opinion.
Really losing my patience with both the community manager and devs ignoring this. Actions speak louder than words and they don’t seem to care.

I was excited to see that there was a patch today with some fixes, but disappointed to see that only a few of the ‘major’ bugs were actually fixed and the bulk of the patch was to implement new items. :\

Don’t they realise that people are not interested in buying things when the game is broken for us?

  • Ranger pets attack regardless of ‘avoid combat’ toggle
  • Ranger pets attack when using “F2” skill, even when on ‘avoid combat’
  • Challenge motes are still hidden and preventing players from progressing achievements

I’m not playing this game until they fix the pet, it’s been more than a week. Patch after patch we have been ignored, sorry Gaile but it’s been more than a week since you assured us that it would be fixed, i hoped this patch would finally put an end to the ranger pet fiasco but it seems that priorities lies with cash first, players later. We might hear the “Be Patient, it’s coming soon” or other white knights of the forum saying “You are being a childish” among many other things but look at the patch notes and you will see how much they are “Working on the problem” adding more stuff to the Black Lion, yet ignoring many bugs or fixes like the HOM or many other bugs that have persisted still since the FOV patch.

What do you want me to think? If you want players to be content and reduce toxic behavior or “Black Knights” on the forums and within your game, just be clear and say what is going on, instead of going with this rep damaging secrecy thing, it’s unbecoming and it clearly creates more negative atmosphere around, if you cannot fix rangers, just say it “Look we have problems with the ranger pet bug, we really need more time” don’t say things like “Soon” because soon might be interpreted as something else. I know being a dev is hard work, it’s never easy and you have your work with HOT, but do not ignore something important as our class mechanic such as the pet. Some people have stopped playing rangers for dungeons, fractals and other game types because of this problem.

Finally, with all that out of the way, with all due respect, we deserve a little more clarity on this, thank you very much.

And on a personal note, I can’t figure out George’s behavior. A few days ago, I swear that he started attacking more than he had been doing, where before he was pretty consistently sitting on the sidelines cleaning his paw. I felt — and sure, this isn’t likely — that I needed to hit F1 fewer times over the course of the evening to get him on the job. But that must have been my imagination, right? Or… did anyone else notice this at all?

i noticed last night that a couple of times i hit F1, my pet stood like it was going to attack and sat back down.

Thanks for the update. The f1 problem ,as you describe it, seems to be intermittent, but I have experienced it off and on from time to time. I switch pets when it happens and it cures it.

On the surface, it sounded like a boolean issue to me too! But after 2+ weeks of my minions (err… “pets”) still doing whatever the hell they want when set to avoid combat, my guess is that the boolean var is working fine; it’s the code reacting to it that’s severely hosed!

Honestly no we shouldnt. No Class mechanic should ever be broken for any length of time in such a way that it inhibits playing that class. i was kicked from 4 dungeons tonight because i was ranger.(Yay! This seems so familiar from last time!) Groups mind you, that i had started, that i had posted in the LFG tool.

Am i aware it happens? Yes, and it should always be on the highest priority of bug fixes possible, which if it isnt already on that list ill be surprised.

Please don’t forget to fix the F2 “Pet skill” while you are working on this! When you use the “pets utility skill” it should NOT send the pet in to attack when it is on ‘avoid combat’ mode.

Another update, still no fix.

Sad thing is that it worked well before.

Here is a hint for your devs :

1 – look how the code was BEFORE the update that broke it.

2 – look at how the code is NOW.

3 – COMPARE the two. It should give you a good start to find what broke it.

I have been waiting patiently for the current pet bugs to be fixed.

My pet has been attacking without provocation anyone or anything that gets within range – and then it protects enemies by bodyblocking my arrows – I have to move around to the side to do damage.

Please fix these soon – the “ranger hate” has returned.

Ok, I understand that the 3/16 patch did a pretty good amount of damage when it comes to introducing bugs into GW2. I also get it that there were bugs that were more game-breaking than this particular ranger bug where the pets are not able to be set to avoid combat. After all, the F3 (Return to Me) button does still recall a pet that’s run off towards a targeted enemy. So we rangers still have some control. But, with that said, constantly hitting F3 makes it a hell of a task for the ranger to simulate a proper working game mechanic. He must NOW micro-manage his pet’s behavior.

In dungeons, it can be catastrophic if the ranger is not very attentive to now having to play micro-manager to his pets. This bug has caused the ranger to be somewhat vilified (if he wasn’t somewhat before) by the other classes in the LFG tool. I’ve seen some dungeon posts lately that have a comment of “NO RANGERS!” Kitten! And do I blame these players for not wanting a party member that can’t control his faculties properly which could cause a dungeon run to be much harder and potentially unsuccessful? No, I don’t blame them… in essence, the ranger is playing handicapped! And they don’t want their time wasted because the ranger in the group can’t control his beast and causes a wipe.

In competitive play (PvP, WvW), having extra button clicks can easily throw off your rotation, skill cool-down subconscious timing management, and not to mention – cause premature pet death. In competitive play, you need to be at the top of your game, which is often required to successfully out play and take down your human opponents. But, sadly, no ranger is at the top of his game since March 16th, because his used to be loyal ally regularly goes rogue and causes problems.

Anet, please give us back our most loyal ally by restoring our Avoid Combat game mechanic back to FULL CONTROL (pre-March 16th functionality) ASAP. It’s been 2.5 weeks and we’re starting to hurt pretty badly (look at these posts).

I’m a Ranger with heart and soul and am used to work a bit more for my class to be on par with others, so I did find a way for me personally to work around the recently increased pet aggressiveness in dungeons and fractals. I do understand that the devs must be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of bugs they introduced on March-16 patch. However, I can’t deny that my initial patience is wearing thin.

No doubt, this will be fixed. Still, it’s hard to understand how this and many other bugs could have made it into the game in the first place. 5 minutes of playing Ranger revealed this bug. I think it’s undeniable that the quality control team was hard at sleep here or went on a holiday trip or something.

In regards to future releases I truely hope they learn somehting from this disaster.
Another bug festival of this scale and they might as well shut down their game entirely.

Edit: Ok, just saw Jon’s post on the Ranger forums. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Just saw this. It should give you some hope.

Thank you all for being patient with this. Something we introduced on 3/16 broke passive mode. We believe we now have a fix for this and it is in testing. As soon as we confirm this fix has solved this issue we will push it to the live game at the first possible time.
