Target nearest now targets off screen enemies
Targeting has been broken for a long time, it’s just “less worse” in a few aspects :S https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Targeting-Still-Broken-Please-Fix-It/
Targeting has never been “right.” But it took a HUGE Step BACKWARDS with the September patch. It’s like they used old code for target nearest enemy when building the Sept update. Now that it’s November, maybe we’ll see target nearest get back to where it was pre-Sept patch? :/
Some people have said they prefer the current set up, since “nearest” always means “closer.” Some of us intentionally point the camera to hone in on foes in that direction and prefer that “nearest” mean “closest within my field of view.” There’s really no good way to reconcile those preferences without a specific option.
In addition to the changes mentioned above, I also seem to autotarget “furniture” much more often than after previous patches. In the Modniir chain (in the Harathi Hinterlands), I find myself firing at centaur weapon racks instead of the 10-15 centaurs that are actually trying to kill me. I suspect that’s related to it being easy to autotarget a world boss (who are, in some ways, also furniture), but I figure I can manage to manually target a world boss eventually…whereas while fighting 10-15 foes near me, I can’t afford to waste any damage.
Honestly…. this is a godsend.
Target nearest enemy should do just that….. target the nearest enemy.
I’m not sure where this “field of view” thing originated…. but it is extremely awkward to attempt to target an enemy who can be right next to you, just offscreen, and you can’t target them because of the way you have the camera rotated….
Additionally, take a look at this screenshot prior to the patch….
I’m trying to target the ettin who is closest…. but the game will not let me because he is hiding behind the sapling like something out of a bad cartoon.
