Hey there.
I’ve been trying to get somewhere with my personal questline on my human elementalist Ninethir Zeirdotter, at level 30, on Piken Square. I’m on the quest “The Sad Tale of the Ravenous”.
Now, I do believe I have decent gear for my level, and that I do a fair amount of damage. I’m not bad at keeping out of reach for eventual attacks.
Nevertheless, I get epicly owned whenever I try to get somewhere with this quest.
As the Risen attack, not only do the NPCs get killed within two seconds, which apparently hasn’t happened to others (I’ve checked some walkthrough videos, and I’ve talked to friends of mine), but I also get oneshotted by one of the Risen mobs. Imagine my frustration at this, eh? It doesn’t matter what I do; the NPCs will get brutally murdered and possibly eaten right before my very eyes, and my poor elementalist gets her skull smashed to pieces after running around and desperately dodging attacks for a little while.
I’m not sure what’s going on here, if it’s just me who’s really bad at this and this is supposed to happen, or if something’s wrong.
But I’m fairly certain that the NPCs are not meant to be slaughtered within two seconds of the Risen mobs reaching the camp without me (or them) being able to stop it from happening.
Am I just completely lost in the woods as a defenseless little girl, or did these mobs gain a rare superpower as well as a taste for human elementalist flesh?
Regards,
A rather annoyed elementalist currently recuperating from a humiliating defeat.

My necromancer was getting killed too. I believe they have shadow step and a fire aoe. Turns out these pirates don’t swim. lol. Well, they do swim, but underwater, they aren’t as deadly. Sadly, on land they may be too tough for me.

Anet might have changed the skills of the pirates and didn’t check this scenario.

I typically let the npcs agro the mobs first … When I tried to do first damage I wound up agroing the entire zone. As each npc went down, I’d rez them.

I also did most of my storyline on my ele after I was several levels above it. Focus + earth stance helped a ton for rezzing/survivability.

I also noticed this bug going through the quest on my new guard – i’ve done it before twice with a ranger and a warrior, had no problems, but this time the mobs were crazy. All of the pirates ran up together, basically stacked in one glob, all stopped just before npcs and buffed themselves (with might/fury/swiftness, seems similar to ranger warhorn buff), and came in to attack. They then stack fire fields around their targets, and leap through them, meaning all of the mobs have fire armor. NPCs died basically from the first leap and i had to kite them very carefully, and quickly revive the pirates before the next wave arrived.

Also should note that the mob spawns here still often walk backwards away from the camp to attack what I assume are ambient mobs – the fact that 30% of mobs were late to the party is the only thing that let me survive.
