Any updates on this bug yet? .. im already lvl 80 and i cant run my story quest coz of this bug…
Many don’t realize it but this is actually going to stop me from getting my Legendary Weapon , im already working on all the gifts.. i hope this will be fixed soon.

Just tried to do the saving the skritt story line today and although I understand that we do not pay a monthly fee for the game but I do believe with what I paid for the game and the amount of reg cash to buy gems in the near future is it not a bit ridiculous that when i can not progress I find out that the quest line has been bugged for over two weeks? Seems to me that support team and or developers need to remove content or block content if they can not seem to fix it in a timely matter. And sorry I don’t believe over two weeks is a timely mater considering that the game has not been out very long to begin with and you still got paid my sixty dollars. Now I am no expert on it but you think you could have blocked or locked it or something. Not every player lives on the forums so I did not find out about this issue like some many others till it was too late. At least put it in the news I do read that!

Not surprisingly, I have just tried the Hatchery and just now found out after playing through it twice that it has been bugged for weeks. I have looked at the other thread in which Jeffrey Vaughn states that the fix has been made, but won’t get patched till the update goes live. That was on the 23rd of October? It’s now the 12th of November…. Come on guys, this isn’t fair!

Been waiting a few weeks for this, I’ve been patient about it but this is getting pretty annoying now, especially since this is something that should have been a high priority. A dev already came on here before and said they had a fix for this a long time ago… still not fixed… this isn’t the only personal storyline bug either…

When it the personal story The Hatchery going to be fixed, it has been bugged for over 3 weeks, not one update addresses it?

I have another bug with my sylvari story, Eye of the Sun is also bugged, there is no way to aim the turret at all, no way to shoot the wall of poison unless am I doing the story wrong? can you help me (us) out?

I believe Lost Shores starts on the 15th, so I expect the patch will be then to bring in the content for Lost Shores and audio/event fixes.

The Bug Is Still There i have Cleared out the same destroyers cave / hatchery mission 8 times now and nothing happens apart from the oozes re-spawn You have not fixed the bug so i suggest you do so feel free to log my account admins as im aware you can get my details and test it for your self the problem is still outstanding and due to your lack of incompetence you are now ruining my game play and time.

The vitriol is excessive and unwarranted, granted. And yes, ArenaNet has earned a lot of respect for what they’ve created.

However there is also room for criticism here.
Based on timestamps in Mr. Vaughn’s posts in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/The-hatchery-bugged/first it took less than four hours to track down and fix the bug and the fix was ready four weeks ago. The only reason it isn’t live yet is that the fix was made on top of a bunch of music changes that they weren’t comfortable releasing until now.
First: four weeks for a bug preventing storyline progress is hardly a “want it NOW” mentality.
Second: Fixing a significant live bug on top of what should be a feature branch is, frankly, a rookie mistake. It should have been made on the “Current live” branch for immediate test and release, then merged back into the trunk.
Third: Fine, forgot to fix the bug on the branch, it happens. It took four hours to track down and fix. Tracking it down is usually the hard part. Just reapply the known fix to the live branch. Absolute worst case it’s another four hours and would have gotten this fixed in live several weeks earlier than it is.
Fourth: It looks like this showed up immediately following a patch to prevent doing parts of this mission out of order. Since then it seems like it has been broken for everyone. That looks like the “exploit fix” was never tested.
Optional fifth: If I am understanding the history here correctly, this bug showed up before, was squashed, then reappeared. Now it’s entirely possible that the recurrence is unrelated to the original, but it still whiffs of a lack of regression testing.

So yes, ArenaNet has done some incredible things (e.g. rolling out updates without having to take the servers offline – screw you Patch Tuesdays). But that demonstrated level of talent just makes the above problems even more incomprehensible.

You should really re-think your development and release process.
You originally fixed the bug in “trunk” which happened to have the audio updates.
“Live” didnt have the audio patches yet, so that’s why we are stuck.

Why would you check out “trunk” instead of “live” to fix it?
Why does a major update (audio affecting all storyline quests) go into “trunk” instead of a “branch” that will later be merged into “trunk”?

It’s not a matter of priorities, it’s just bad timing, really. A general audio fix went in about 2 hours before the bug was reported here and I fixed it, and unfortunately, the audio fix left the story step incompatible with Live. In the upcoming update they’ll be adding the audio fix, so the fixed story step will also go in.

As a developer myself, it astounds me that when it was realized the fix for this quest was made on a branch of the code that included other changes that would not be pushed out as quickly, that the fix was not then also made on a branch of the code that could be pushed out prior to the audio fixes. This is just bad management.

I’m going to throw my voice in and say “insufficient branch management.” However, I wouldn’t be so quick to call this a “rookie mistake”—many projects don’t lend themselves to this type of branching strategy. Furthermore, we can’t assume that the change was naïvely merged with a very complicated feature—it is entirely possible that the audio changes mentioned were expected to be pushed out much sooner than they did. Don’t forget, also, that more branching means more QA. This kind of organization is complicated, and we don’t have all of the information.

I think that there are branching and resource organization strategies that would greatly alleviate this kind of problem. It is, however, very difficult to change development habits across even a very small organization dealing with small, discrete projects and products. ArenaNet and Guild Wars are none of these. It could be better, but that isn’t the same as failure.

Hopefully, the teams involved can learn from this. That’s one of the fun parts of creating software.

this is a shame, you guys don’t put this as a priority
take a look on the image, everything is done, but the nothing happens.. them a need to scape from the instance area to play the game , and my main story line don’t progress
… please fix this , soon as possible…
I really like my hero, and i don’t want to start a new one now, i’m lvl 57 ,i really would like to continue with this one

The fix for hatchery was sopoused to be applied somewhere in November. It’s 13 th now and still no fix.An awful long time for something that was ready almost a month back,
makes one wonder doesn’t it? Bad part is it completely blocks your personal story.

Yep still broken I see. Though unlike many before me. I just hit this bug a 2 days ago. So its new to me. Hope it can be resolved soon. Thanks for your efforts and for an amazing game.

As for everyone else still with the problem. Just do some exploration and lv up your char in other areas till it gets fixed. No need to stay at lv 57 (using Rehnzo as example). My char is lv 70. Still plenty to do. You could also work on a side char while you wait. That is not as bad a thing as you might think. Gives you a chance to see different story lines and experience different classes and races.

Use this time waiting as an excuse to try new things. Unless you are or have already done then. Then in that case. Have Fun.

I don’t know who’s fault is but why this issue hasn’t been fixed for the last almost two months??, it’s not only frustrating to the people that got stuck but also I’m feeling left out, like “meehh, let them wait this bigger event is more important” posture.
I bought the game to have fun and I’m just getting tired… of waiting.

Please fix your priorities first and let this kind of fixes a smoother and faster release, I was enjoying the game until now, I know some will tell me do another thing blah blah blah, I did for almost two months!!!!! this is unacceptable!

I’m on my 3rd Alt in the time its taken this bug to get fixed, and honestly, I just want to complete the personal story on my main. This is a pretty huge problem considering we’re about to do a Refer-a-friend event, doesn’t give new/potential players the warm fuzzies… and I’ve referred a friend already who is also experiencing same bug… If only we’d known it would take a month and a half to fix a simple storyline quest… Or been able to go back in time and redo the choice.

I’ve been frustrated about this bug for a while, but I’d like to thank you, Jeffrey Vaughn, for awesomely responding over and over again in these threads. And thank you sincerely for pushing for a quick fix and for addressing the problem promptly. Despite the extremely long wait, I appreciate the work being done. Plus now I get to run through a long series of quests without level gaps, so I’ll pretend this was all just a ploy to give me a fluid, cinematic experience-type story.

Surely you can understand there may be some confusion, however, when there are multiple patches this week.

While I am normally the first to tell people to put away the pitch forks, I feel at the very least this highlights the difference between the model set forth by Guild Wars and traditional MMO’s. A bug which causes players to feel as though they can’t play their character would not be allowed to stand for a month in a pay to play MMO. It is immaterial that there are other ways to play and level; players still feel that way and are unhappy. If they’re in a position where they’re deciding whether they want to stick around and possibly spend money on the gem store there is the possibility that it may influence that decision.

Someone was commenting on this bug in map chat one day and another player responded with a possible “duh” solution to this issue that may be a workaround. Of course couple more days until fixed but for anyone antsy, here’s what was proposed. Maybe ask around and try it people.

This particular quest that’s broken had another path. Attacking the Centaurs i do believe? So maybe find someone who took that path on your server, and run it with them and it should let you progress to the next step? Might be a pain in the butt to find someone who took this quest and hasn’t done the level 45 step yet, but worth a try. Also, if someone tries it, and it works, let us know. (Personally I don’t even want to log on the character i have that’s stuck until it’s fixed.)

Alright, thanks for fast response so I didn’t end up wasting any ones time. I remember joining a friend awhile back for a Hylek quest even though we weren’t both in Vigil/Priory but we both got credit for completion. I suppose at that point it didn’t matter that we weren’t same same faction but we had chosen the same step despite it.

But might be something worth thinking about adding :P

As much as I respect the effort being put in, it’s outright silly that people have been waiting nearly a month (!!) to progress on their personal story. It’s very discouraging to see my client update itself and finding out that it wasn’t patched (even though I know it wont be).

Everything that can be said about this issue has been said, so at this point I can only express my frustration and wait patiently for the patch to arrive. Hopefully next time issues like this can be given a higher priority, with it being a pretty major part of the game.
