underwater black screen
heres the dxdiag txt
is this what you need?
Attachments:
Got logged out before I could post and lost what I had typed, I know it’s a separate issue but you might want to have a look at that anyway.
dxdiag tells me:
AMD Radeon HD 7800 series
AMD Radeon HD 8550G + HD 8600M Dual
My NVIDIA card doesn’t give this bug.
If full dxdiag could help I could send it but if it can’t I’d rather not bother.
“Did that 10 times, 5 minutes ago, all normal.. so what??”
From what others are reporting, this covers multiple versions of Windows, multiple graphics cards and even cases on Macs apparently. The core issue appears to be that the graphics quality setting isn’t staying at it’s specified level, which seems more bug than environmental issue. It may be that a change in quality would go unnoticed on higher-end systems, which might(?) explain your success.
In any case, in the interest of resolution, which we’re all interested in, my specs are:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 10240)
Intel Pentium N3530 @ 2.16 Ghz
4096MB Ram
DirectX 11.2

I’m glad.. but three days just to walk your character into the water?
Yep! Too busy farming sarcasm for this response…
GPU specs plz
Not sarcasm, just frustration. But I apologise. You do have a great game, and it’s because it’s so great that something like this, which jars you out of the experience, got my feathers up. I’m eager to get immersed again in the game world. Specs provided in a separate post.
Hi folks! We just managed to get our first reproduction in studio for this issue and are investigating. You could help the effort by:
1) Post the type of graphics card you have in this thread (or PM me your info) and
2) File an issue with Customer Support so we can get your DirectX Diagnostic info. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

The black screen isnt the real issue, (yes it is but there’s more to it than that). The graphics settings change themselves when you go underwater and refresh themselves. I use subsampling and it changes back to native every time i go under water OR change maps OR see a cutscene. it’s all one problem.
My video card is AMD Radeon HD 6530D. 512mbs. run in 1920×1080. But I use subsample instead of native.
Well mine is very, very, very bad lol. Bought this comp brand new a few years ago just to be able to play Civ 5 and FF14 which I must say I had very little issues playing those games.
But I soon discovered I was given a very crap graphics card when the rest of the computer was pretty good spec wise. So here it is:
NVIDIA GeForce GT220. hangs head in shame lol…

This seems correct. I just tested this. I normally play the game on “auto detect” unless I am in WvW, Dungeons, Drytop or Silverwastes as all of those places get very bad FPS for me. So when I go to these places I play on “Best Performance”.
However because I have been going to Drytop and Silverwastes a lot recently I have just been leaving it on “Best Performance”. But it seems changing maps or indeed going under water will send it straight to “auto detect” quality for me. However the screen only goes black for me when submerging, not when changing maps so I never noticed it for when I was changing maps.

I too am having this problem on 2 different computers. One with the specs in my signature, the other:
late 2013 15in MBP Retina; OSX 10.9.5; 2.3GHz Core i7; 16GB RAM; Gforce GT 750M
I do not have the graphics resetting (tested a little bit) but both machines run on best performance already because of all the other graphics bugs with the Mac beta client. (no sarcasm just sorrow)
16GB RAM; AMD Radeon 6970M 2GB VRAM

Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz RAM 8GT Win10
My black screen lasts about 3-4seconds and happens every time I go in the water, so quite a bit different than in the video that Nevaahe.6308 posted. Black screen or any kind of freeze doesn’t happen when I come out of the water.

This post is the textbook example of 0 understanding of how games work.
The following information could shock you, so grab hold of your table or something else that is stable:
Not everyone has the exact same computer components and installed software that you do (Gasp!).
Meaning not everyone (Like me) has or indeed has ever had that issue.
So next time, instead of the snooty response in an area where you lack expertise, try giving them your specs and describe how and where the issue occured along with any circumstances that might be relevant.
Thanks in advance

My graphic settings reset every time after a cinematic, changing map or after getting that black screen.

I’ve got the same problem with graphics settings resetting and getting a couple-second black screen when I go underwater
macbook pro 2011
intel i7, intel hd graphics 3000 384mb
I want to add my experience as well. Since the last patch, GW2 just freezes randomly and I have to force close it and restart the client. This is in addition to the random black screens that happen.
My CPU is Intel i5-4670k and my GPU is Nvidia GTX970.
Edit: I had it happen twice in 10 minutes in WvW.

This post is the textbook example of 0 understanding of i) I already apologised for being snooty hours before your post, ii) I already posted my specs hours before your post, iii) I have expertise in this area.
So next time, instead of a snooty response to an arbitrary and obsolete post, try reading the entire conversation.
Thanks in advance
just keeping this bumped, hoping for a fix or update on when it will be fixed..
Any news devs?

Mine didn‘t have black screen, it would stuck for 3 or 4 seconds when i dive underwater, whatever the performance i choose.
Here is my labtop, i hope it would be useful :

on a separate note: The game optimization and FPS has always been bad, brutal in silver wastes and dry top. You guys are worried about expansions and gem store when your game is fundamentally broken.
Before anyone jumps on me, I’ve put in support tickets and updated drivers. There’s no problem on my end. This far after release it’s really unacceptable that the game is so unplayable. Optimize your game already.

Thank you so very much for fixing this \o/
Yes, thank you VERY much!!!!
Awesome! It appears to be fixed for me too. Thank you devs.
I too am having the black screen problem of this nature. I dont have a graphics card and I have been enjoying GW2 without one for over a year now. I hope I dont have to get one just to play HoT because that will mean buying a new computer. Here is my DxD. Ill be sending it to customer service as well.

oh hey, it is fixed. I just tested it. That was fast.
I’m very glad to see this issue fixed. Thank you, David and everyone else who worked on this!
Thanks so much for fixing this so quickly!
fixed as well.. it seemed to stop as soon as the announcement notice in the corner went away. This may indcate that there was a problem with the way the UI shows on the right side. I say this because the way the XP dust went from the UI right log to the xp bar during the first beta weekend was also causing problems, and they removed it..
But anyway.. Thank you for the fast fix.
Truely
Glad to hear it’s fixed for so many people! If anybody is still having an issue, please let me know (with hardware specs too plz.)
Sorry again for the inconvenience!
