Just bought Guild Wars 2 downloaded the beta client it’s started and downloading fine on my macbook pro running mountain lion 10.8.2. I then attempted to install it on my mac mini, with mountain lion server 10.8.2 operating system installed. I can open the install select the location and install seems to have completed ok. The download loading window pops up the same as on my other mac as does the update loading window. Then on my macbook pro I’d have to wait a bit and then guild wars 2 would start up. On the mac mini it doesn’t start ive tried clicking on the app deleting the guild wars folder in application support, i also check in activity monitor to see if it had started but there was nothing there. The mac mini is newer than the macbook pro and a better spec. Any ideas?

Hey invisiblematt, tech support has said that ANet does not respond to threads on this forum. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to open a support ticket in order to get someone to help you out. Best of luck.
Why are you trying to play a video game on a server OS? Perhaps this is your first problem?

If he has the hardware he should be able to run it just fine. The only major differences between OS X and OS X Server are the additional applications and functionalities Server ships with. Server has built-in utilities that are geared towards filesharing, network management and communications — like a server should. Otherwise the two have identical functionality under the hood.

I found someone else with a similar problem. Im not quite sure why this fix works but it does. I am admin on the computer but i can launch gw2 if i open the .app file and go into the cider folder, open termianl type sudo, and drag in the file. Permissions on the computer seem fine, but as long as it works i dont care

It’s an issue with root on a server. Admin isn’t equal to root. The client version is much more lax about root permissions.
Oddly enough, I just read about this today. You may want to try it out.

Please write back and let me know if it works for you.
FYI: in 10.8, it is located under “login options” https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5040624

you can applescript the shell command too. Just open applescript editor and paste this in, replacing your sudo password and user (typically root)
do shell script “sudo open /Applications/Guild\\ Wars\\ 2.app” user name “rootusername” password “rootpassword” with administrator privileges
this would be for server though, not client.
