TgUpdate 1.11 everytime i open the launcher
Someone else was getting this issue, but I don’t think we found a fix to it. I can post the basic Mac troubleshooting/basic fix steps, but there is no guarantee any of it will work. You may need a support ticket regardless to figure out why it is continuously updating the client version. So, I’ll post, try them if you like, but it may not help. (I doubt you’ll need step 5)
Also, make certain you are running the client and any troubleshooting steps as an administrator (on an administrator account).
This long, but read each step completely before continuing:
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
You can also try holding alt while clicking "GO " in the finder menu bar unhide the correct Library folder, but that was never successful for me in the past. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Please submit a ticket to support if you cannot get this issue to resolve, then post your fix from them back here to help others who are also experiencing this problem. See the sticky at the top of the Mac forum about submitting a ticket.

Also can you let us know if you have made any changes to the client or GW2 files prior to this change happening.
Have you made sure you are running the game from an Admin account?

Hello.
Am i the only one that experiences a update every time i launch my launcher?
Every single time a box pops up and says “Downloading tgUpdate version 1.11” which takes about 30 sec
I had the SAME ISSUE; Tech Support is very “non-engaging” or “meaningful.” I asked here (in this forum) for help, I got the canned replies. Some well intentioned but nonetheless did not provide a solution.
I asked that someone please upload and share their loader. I got some reply that said “I didn’t think it was possible” from a user; again thoughtful but did not resolve my need for update 1.11.
I am providing a link to the dmg so you can simply copy over to your system and then paste in your .dat and bingo your updated and it works very well. I do agree with the sentiment that it is much better.
I will edit the reply in a bit with the link to download, let me know if you don’t know how to copy and paste your .dat (17gb) file.

^— Yes well you realise that we are simply other users not actual tech support -_-
The ‘canned replies’ are canned because they are what commonly fixes issues for the mac client, we’re just random people who have managed to figure out a couple of helpful things and are willing to share it with people who unfortunately have issues.
Good on you Foxx! I wasn’t going to say anything in response to the “canned replies” comment, considering I was as nice as I could be when I was hesitant to upload a file from the game that could possibly break the eula, not to mention, push my bandwidth limit. But hey, I guess if us trying to help him was unappreciated, he could rely on tech support or google solely for his help next time. But even still, it’s not always canned responses we provide, we just give those for issues that seem like the common problems seen here daily that are easily fixed by those. And we are a little more creative when the problem is fairly unique, but I never want to risk a possible ban.

I’m having this same issue! So i deleted the entire game and just downloaded it fresh. That sadly did not work.
You can try Travis’ suggestion above I guess. But no one has come back to confirm it helping them or anything. So, I don’t know if you want to risk it.

I got everything working with a combination of: Deleting everything. downloading Travis’s file. once travis’s file was in the applications folder, I did what kylaa said with the terminal. It had to download some update, then was good to go.
Glad you’re up and running well again

I mean no disrespect to anyone that attempted to post.
I was being critical of support from AreaNet and a lack of help from the community in getting the files (very difficult to do when your client is malfunctioning) to manually update the client.
I appreciate any assistance and the “canned” replies however, the replies (while thoughtful) were not helpful and there was nothing more in assistance given.
I was resourceful and located with much difficulty, I was able to obtain the latest patches and manually apply them.
I have shared the files to assist with this somewhat common anomaly with the tgupdater.
As far as my bluntness, I again was not trying to inflame, discredit, be little, offend, be unthankful or any other negative sentiment. I was merely being “to-fact” and “critical” as being critical is very necessary for personal or professional growth.
The support of AN is certainly equivalent to “nonexistent” and hence, we help each other. For that I thank you all and I hope it is reciprocal by my files for this current issue for some with tgupdater.
Warm Regards!
Travis Johnson.9603’s suggestion fixed my problem w/ the updater ALWAYS launching. I put his file in my Applications folder, let it redownload any missing updated, and no more 1.11 updater on each launch Thanks!
hello, how do you copy and paste the .dat file?
When in your applications folder right click Guild Wars 2 and select ‘Show Package Content’. Then go trough the following maps. Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/GW2/ And that is where the Gw2.dat is located.
But i’m not really sure if Travis uploaded this file. Too much to download just to check. So either it is this file or it is the complete gw2 application, in which case you just copy and replace it in applications.

I have shared the files to assist with this somewhat common anomaly with the tgupdater.
Can you tell us what you did to manually fix the relevant files on your end? Some of us might want to try to replicate this instead of downloading other people’s files.
It happens to me too, i will try Travis link… but this game is really a joke like ANet support.

I’m pretty new to Macs, so I’m not sure how to go about doing this. Can you please post instructions? I tried downloading your file and putting it in my Applications folder, but all it did was replace the original client file and then I was unable to open it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

As I log in this morning I now have this new little downloader window before I get to the start menu. And now my hero window is open as my character loads in and my screen view is point either straight up or straight down and spins madly when I try to turn, thus making the game unplayable. I logged out and back in 4 times (even did a system reboot between logs 3 and 4) to the EXACT same results. Game was running fine last night except for the gem store purchase problem, but whatever they did last night has broken the game.

Slight work around for the camera issue Tigralily is once logged into the game, hit COMMAND+TAB to get back to your desktop. Once there, just click on the GW2 game icon in you dashboard (bringing the game back up). It fixes the camera issue, albeit only temporary. If you log out of the game, you’ll have to do this trick again to fix the camera issue.
Gem Store and Transgamings updater is STILL busted for mac users though.

Look I think we all just need to come to terms that ANet and NCSoft are never going to take this client out of beta and are not very supportive of it in any way shape or form. This update was a half ***ed way to try and fix the problem. Now I am a coder so I can say it was not given much attention. It fixes some but doesn’t fix most of them. Most have to manually edit the files to get it too work. As of today I will be uninstalling GW2 and just cutting my loses. I am extremely disappointed in the overall lack of support and extreme lack of work on the “beta” client. Shame on ANet and NCSoft for being totally clueless for a great game to cross over to MAC. Blizzard has been doing it for years with WoW, but I guess you guys aren’t even in the same league anymore. I thought for sure they were going to make Blizzard work harder to maintain #1 status but in the end GW2 is just another windows only game. Blizzard has the MAC market on lock. Shame on ANet and NCSoft and I hope they read this because they need to know that if they don’t treat this MAC client with proper care (which they will say they are but as we can all see they aren’t) they will lose the MAC market to WoW and in turn lose a ton of money.
(edited by king tyler the wise.8460)
Did not start getting this update problem until I used Kyllaa’s solution in attempt to fix a crashing problem. I reinstalled hoping it would fix the update problem, but with no luck. Now I’m stuck with constant crashing, and this update… You can see how these two problems don’t go together very well.
Sad to say, but after all this time playing this game and nothing being fixed, I think King Tyler may be right on this one.

King Tyler the Wise is pretty much nailed it. It’s a sad day when the community is trying to find fixes and work arounds to a broken client, while we get nothing from the official tech ‘support’.
ANet, I have held you guys in such high regards. Pre-launch, you guys talked so much to the community about how this game is going to be amazing, and CARE about the players interactions. Why don’t you?
You guys release an Official Mac Beta Client (and pick a horrible company, transgaming, in the process) but don’t really support it, like you support the windows side. If the Gem Purchasing was broken for all Windows 7 users, you guys would have fixed this Tuesday, but since the issue is only effecting OSX 10.9 users, it’s not as important.
Another sad customer.

I understand that it’s easy to get upset when there is a problem, however I’m sure that there are people working to resolve it. We have to stop and think that they are not doing it intentionally, it’s just that stuff happens, and we need to learn to be patient, and to provide them with as much information as possible in order to fix the issue. We are lucky to have a Mac client, being that the majority of gamers are on Windows or Xbox or PS4. Luckily ArenaNet chose to support Mac rather than a console. I know that the Mac client is through transgaming (cider) and is a wrapper around the windows client, it’s not exactly the best, but it has been working for most and allows us Mac users to play a GW2 (the most excellent game out). However, we also have to consider that we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes…perhaps the cider client was just to allow us Mac users to play right away, and they may have people coding a proper Mac version. We just don’t know as of yet. It’s also critical to be aware that every company has it’s issues, including Blizzard, they have their fair share of issue, not to mention their “cookie cutter” games that draw people in, but don’t exactly have good gameplay or content within them. Blizzard has grown beyond it’s own scope and their quality has really come down to a point of awful.
Just be patient, provide any information that’s requested, and I’m sure we’ll have a fix at some point. And who knows what the future will bring.

My bro was explaining this to me earlier and suggested that maybe this is that tipping point where they have to break down and make a full client. I’d rather be patient than break down and get bootcamp.

I’m not sure why ArenaNet would keep such information “behind the scenes” if they were indeed working on a fully native Mac client. That personally would give me hope. Without any information, it’s kind of hope-less.
I’d like the producers to have a frank conversation with us. If the answer is they don’t see a full Mac client as a worthwhile business investment — that’s fine, I would appreciate that answer (if that’s the answer). Then I’ll stop wasting my time playing on my Macs.
My feedback to them would be: you can make a generic OpenGL engine that runs natively on both Mac and Linux, and possibly Windows, and thus also exploiting other targets like handhelds, PS4 and Steam Machines easier. It might be the future of the company if there’s the will to do it. Less a technical challenge, than it is institutional.
It’s an excellent game, and I’d like to continue playing it on my platform of choice, just not one that implies I’m always going to be stuck with a Wine client.

So I just had this problem start after this Dec 10th update, but a friend of mine has had the problem since he downloaded the game a month or two ago. A “temporary” fix for the problem is to turn off wifi or disconnect from the internet then launch the client. The updater doesn’t run when not connected to the internet and the client launches. Then reconnect and start the game. It usually works for me, but sometimes prevents you from connecting to Black Lion in game. I hope this works for you guys!
I have the same “Downloading tgUpdate version 1.11” problem. I opened a ticket with the GW2 support and got the answer that their support system is currently not allowing file uploads and in the meantime I should please open another ticket at NCSOFT support.
Now I have to tell you: I didn’t try to upload a screenshot, because all you can see (as you know) is this small window with a progress bar and the information “Downloading tgUpdate version 1.11” – really no need for a screenshot. So it makes the impression, that the support really is not aware of the problem.
Sosmi, there is a thread where this is discussed along with the mouse problem and blank screen for gem purchasing. You could add your Mac details to the thread and it may help speed a solution

The fact that Blizzard has been supporting BOTH pc and mac for over a decade contradicts this idea. Also ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) will support, pc, mac, and both consoles. And all the talk about “we REALLY don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes” that’s because nobody at ANet will communicate to any of us what they are doing, have done or plan to do.
ALL of us have every right to want to know exactly what’s going on. If they ARE working on a native beta client or not. After a YEAR, we deserve that much.

World of Warcraft is a much less intensive game, it was a lot easier for them to design architecture that would support the game on both Windows and OSX – not to mention that it was released when mac’s used PPC rather than Intel… Different kettle of fish.
Also the fact that ESO has been designed with consoles in mind is actually a really crucial part because it means they’ve had to build it in a very different way.
Arenanet have always been windows developers. Creating a game in OpenGL requires a different skillset and given that Windows is the largest market when it comes to gaming it makes sense that they would have been reluctant to spend extra money that they probably didn’t have just to develop the game natively on other systems. ESO has a MASSIVE advantage in that it is a very well established IP that is coming from an RPG background rather than an MMO background – which means they have a lot more money to work with.
I am done listening to excuses people want to make for ANet. I now want answers. So anybody else that has “reasons” or “excuses” as to why, after over a year we have not heard A WORD. Do not waste your energy typing it. Thank you

Having the same problem now.
For about a week, I’ve had the TgUpdate every time I opened the program. When I logged into the game, I had the camera issue described above, with the camera wildly spinning even if I gently nudged the mouse. Minimizing and then maximizing the screen solved the problem, so I would just go about my business, no big deal.
Starting today, for some reason, whenever I start GW2, TgUpdate would launch, download completely, but then GW2 would just close. No launcher, no nothing. It doesn’t matter how many times I re-open the program, it just closes once the TgUpdate is done.
I live in a moderately remote place, and I really don’t want to have to delete my files and re-download 17GB on my slowish connection. Is there really no other way to fix this issue? What is going on?

Make sure you change the em dash (the long dash before “use-dos-cwd”) to two dashes “- -” (but without the space between).
Once you put the command in correctly you will discover this does not fix the problem, though. The last patch seems to be fundamentally broken for whatever reason. This will be fixed days (most gem store bugs get fixed quickly) to months (laser hawks forever) from now. And when it does get fixed we will have a chance of a staff member informing us but we will likely hear absolutely nothing until then. And don’t bother with emailing support because they will be completely clueless, tell you to do the same exact thing you’ve already done and then close your ticket. Don’t blame support, it isn’t their fault (blame should go higher up in the chain).
Add me to the list of people gettings this error :-(
Well, I’ve tried all sorts of things to resolve this tgupdate issue and presumably the resulting gem buying issue. I’ve repaired the app, repaired disk permissions, tried on a new login account, changed the directory structure permissions to 777 of the app and tried as admin and super user accounts. I’m out suggestions in terms of things I could do on my system that could somehow be interfering.

I am having this problem too. I was going to buy gw2 as a christmas present for my brother but I am not going to buy it until they fix this problem.
Add me to the list of trouble with Logging in getting tgupdate and also the Mouse camera problem. Seems like they just don’t care. they break something and just go on there merry way. I have spent a bit while playing this game to be so frustrated. I too was going to purchase this game for my brother for christmas but after this I am not. Why even come out with a MAC version if your not going to support it? Sorry I am venting. I hope all have a great xmass and Happy New Year

After staying away for a month (due to the mouse spin issue) I played for about 7 hours yesterday on the Mac Beta client because the previous patch update corrected the mouse spin issue for me. Happy Days!…… However, I’ve logged in today and downloaded the latest patch (1.1 I believe) and it’s brought back the mouse spin issue again. Is there any way of rolling back the patch update on the version I have? possibly without uninstalling the client?.
The mouse spin issue is likely caused by the 1.11 patcher always firing at launch (so the game doesn’t have the mouse since the patcher stole it or something). The fix is to command tab out of the game then command tab back. This is apparently a common cider bug where the mouse sort of gets lost by cider.

This is exactly my situation. I put up with tabbing out to solve the spinning issue and waiting for the patch to load before play, but now it loads and just quits after the TgUpdate thing.
I have no idea why this worked, but I changed accounts on my iMac to my son’s account, then GW2 loaded after the tgUpdate and I could play.
TgUpdate 1.11 everytime i open the launcher
