I think people need to differentiate between a “ban” or a “suspension”. If it is not final, its is a suspension, if you can never log on again, it is a ban. I agree that at this point they should remove all suspensions as it seems many people, including myself, are getting suspended for things we haven’t actually done. But keep the bans as it keeps the hackers from using stolen accounts.
This is a good point and I think it could work as indeed the hacked accounts have a full ban on them where as the rest are indeed suspended.
But I guess arena net thinks a little different on this part and it is in their right to first actually check out if it was proper to suspend them or not as a lot of people have been saying they were innocent even though they were not (not accusing anyone here, just stating from other threads)
A simple email, stating what had been done, would surly help. All these people suspended fur cursing would know exactly what they said. I truly believe many of them don’t remember the things they said. In my case however, I have been banned for defrauding someone of in-game items, currency, or services. Now there is no possible way anything I have done while playing solo up to this point could be interpreted in such a way. If they took the time to send emails out explaining these things, they would catch them selves before mistakenly suspending innocent parties, and avoid so many un happy customers.
Yeah in your case I am sure that it has to be a mistake if you never came into contact with others (like me I am too busy enjoying the game with my brother, I even have map chat turned off so I don’t get annoyed by other people)
An email stating (for example with a language issue) What was said, or what character name was considered inappropriate would help with a lot of the “I am innocent” “oh wait, yeah I did say that, that one time.” As they would now know before posting here what they did wrong

MMOs attract all kinds of maturity levels. Unfortunately ArenaNet has to play virtual parent and teach some folks how to interact in social settings because apparently some players haven’t been taught that yet.

Agreed. I just feel sorry for Arena net who probably feel bad right now because people are trying to make them seem like the bad guys where as they are doing their jobs correctly and should be praised for it

1) I’ve had the same Arenanet account since Guild Wars 1 and I’ve never changed the password. Unless these hackers went back in time and figured out what i used almost a decade ago I don’t see how that’s possible.
And yet you wonder why someone might be able to guess or brute force the password?

Yea I believe I would get a warning to change my names if that was the case, apparently that is what has happened for the other people popped for using a inappropriate names.

I don’t know if they do it with two names but they have stated that if enough seperate claims (different names, multiple vulgar conversations) BEFORE the original suspension gets set up than yes it was stated it gets escalated into a larger suspension or even a ban

Hey I was playing about twenty minutes ago, I tabbed out to google something and when I tabbed back in my game was in black and there was a message saying my account had been permanently banned. A couple days ago I sent the support team a message on these emails from them (I got about 115 unauthorized attempted account login emails) All from different regions in China. I’m thinking Chinese hackers got into my account and started spamming or something to get me banned.

Alright, so i have been waiting to get back on my GW2 character for about a week now. I’m not 100% sure when my account got banned, but i know it had a 4-5 day window of it. I havent been on since the 31st, and now when i come back and i try to get on for the first time in a week it says, “This account has been permanantly banned for a violation of the User Agreement and/or Rules of Conduct.[[en.ERROR_ACCOUNT_BLOCK_PERMANENT_SUSPENSION_FOOTER]]”
I had a level 49 or something asura necromancer named Horuseth on the realm fort aspenwood. I got my cooking up and bought gems and traded them for gold… i don’t really know what i did wrong, but some things that Arena Net may think that i did are

Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other people’s game experience by not actively participating in matches in good faith, a.k.a leeching.”
i AFK’d once in a battleground to go get some food? i had auto run on and was going forward

I got my cooking up to a high level after paying for gold with real world money buying gems. I also wasted all of my karma buying cooking materials…
Arena Net may have gotten those confused with me? i dont believe i deserve to be permabanned…. nor have i done anything wrong enough to be permabanned…?
When i look at my email account, i see that the password for my guild wars has been attempted to get changed? im wondering if i was hacked during my absence from the game, if thats the problem, thank you for banning the account and not letting the hacker get possession of my stuff, if that is not the case then please try to fix it as soon as you can.
If a support person could get back to me anytime soon, i’d really appreciate it. I have been waiting a very long time to play this game and the fact that i am now permabanned from it has gotten me increasingly annoyed by the hour

Rhia how is it a nightmare? The system said hmm this account appears compromised, which from what you are telling me it sounds like maybe it was, the system then perma banned the account so the hacker couldn’t do any damage and you could get it back, you then filed not one but two tickets which by the way WILL NOT get you seen faster. You need to submit only one ticket following the procedures outlined in the sticky for hacked account prioritization tickets and then update that one ticket.
They are a bit behind but working to get some systems in place to make things go faster. I mean they could have just let the guy go ahead and hack into your account and if you’d saved a paypal or CC account to the gem store let him buy 5000 bucks worth of gems/stuff.
EDIT: Also the staff here isn’t able to do support directly from this page you just have to wait for the ticket to be handled.
I submitted two tickets because i had no idea how i could have been banned, the first one is me saying umm you guys messed up i am banned for no reason fix it please. The second is after i read the forums and looked online and realized they messed up alot of people accounts so i sent in another ticket explaining my situation and all of my details in the format they requested before i realized i could edit a previous ticket.
And for the record they did handle it wrong. I have played dozens and dozens of online games before, some of my account in other games are/were worth thousands of dollars at any given time and none of them have ever been compromised. Now here with my maybe 5 hours of game play and my lvl 38 ele with 2 green items is SOOO important they needed to perma ban me to protect me instead of simply banning the IP’s besides my own trying to log onto my account.

I just came home from work and tried to log on to guildwars 2 and it said i got a Account block permanent suspension

Maybe things are improving. I got my hacked account restored today after just 24 hours. I still lost all my money and materials which I don’t understand as the email validation should stop a login from another IP even if they have my username and password as I understand it.
I think there is more than one hole in Anet’s account security.

Considering I’ve never used that password for anything else ever, and more importantly the fact that modern MMOs have been using authentication for years now to combat this very issue and yet GW2 does not? Yeah, I do.
You can blame the victim all you want however the sheer number of people having this same issue speaks for itself.

So as the topic title says, just 10 minutes ago we got booted from WvW for rematching went to Lions Arch, and ten minutes later I tried clicking on the Borlis Pass world and I got kicked from the game for no reason. It happened right when I clicked the world. Now I am getting a message saying I am permanently banned.
My ID is Firestorm.8605 and in game name is Virus. Please respond. My friend made a bug report in game with the details as well as he was witness.

I can confirm this, as I was playing with him when this happened. I sent a bug report, but this needs to be addressed immediately. A game-breaking bug such as this shouldn’t be in the game.

i was there when it happends he tried to enter world versus world trying to enter borlis pass and lion arch was also bugged for a second where you can’t move and all npc’s where gone and after the bug was gone he tried to enter WvW vorlis pass and got banned without doing annything wrong.

If you really were being polite then your posts wouldn’t be deleted for being “unfriendly”. o_O
Anyway, you are just going to have to wait, just like all the other people whose accounts were compromised. In the meantime, I suggest coming up with a long and secure password, one you haven’t used at any other places, and make sure you don’t use it anywhere else… ever. I also suggest getting a new email address just for gw2.
And since you’ll have time to wait, I suggest a scan of your pc using a reputable antivirus scanner as well as a malware scanner.

Yours says An error in authentication? That doesn’t sound like a ban/suspension and that end part just where it says ACCOUNT_BLOCK_PERMANENT_SUSPENSION_FOOTER just started today for some reason after an update don’t think its supposed to show there.

Yes, Anon, How beautiful that they simply suspend without warning. Meanwhile I will wait my 63+ hours for “Racial/Ethnic Slurs” despite it being something said to a friend jokingly. All parties involved were most likely sure of this, despite this it seems that ArenaNet thinks it’s plausible to give no warning besides a ToS. They’re in their right to do so, but hey, whatever.

So as the Title states, I was running through Ashford Plains and I got some error message that popped up saying I had been blocked from the game. I try to re-log and I am greeted with the message I’ve attached to this thread.
I have never hacked, spammed, or botted in the game, so I don’t understand why I have been banned. Also to put toppings on the cake I just bought gems aswell earlier this evening.

“Hacked accounts – If you submit a support ticket for a hacked account, ensure it is properly prioritized by following these instructions. We’re resolving prioritized hacked account tickets within 72 hours.”
The ticket was submitted per instructions, 72 hours have come and gone….

I’m not sure how exactly they are handling this, It’s as if using a single distasteful word triggers a AI reaction to suspend accounts. Which, in all honesty is a bit outrageous, but they’re in their rights to do. If they want to lose players over it they are certainly on the right track. But even in my case I know that what I said was stupid, I just figured " Eh Whatever, it’s just a game, I didn’t say it to or at anyone so it’s not as if I could possibly offend someone. " but then I remembered about the time my suspension came through: These people… eh Nevermind.

I can read and I’m not alone in this issue, but I’ve never been so disappointed in a game. I tried to log in today and get the perma ban error. I’ve never tried to cheat in-game, have only talked to 2 people both real life friends and only in whispers, have never been disrespectful to any one, and the worst part about it to me is I get no REAL reason why I was banned permanently from a game I just dropped $60 on, just a violation of user agreement. Seriously? I can log into my account on the webpage, even let me change my password and start a forum account. I have been hacked before once on another mmo and known other people that have been hacked and they ALWAYS change your password so you can’t log back onto your account, so tell me why my password still works? I’m really at a loss… no customer support number or Im, just put in a ticket and wait god knows how long for a response and no promise that I will get my account back. I did nothing wrong and feel that Arenanet has cheated me out of my hard earned money. I can promise they will get no more of it.

Small little update to this, apparently I’m banned but my character is still logged in and standing in the place where I got banned. Gonna try to get my friend to send a screen shot, not sure how it will help, but that’s really weird.
