We don’t shut down accounts for inactivity. I wonder if you have received a phishing e-mail. Please see the Common Phishing E-mails thread above and be sure you do not share any account info with anyone as a result of those fake “letters from ArenaNet.”

He said his actual email account was shut down for inactivity, not his GW account.

I have been besieged with email verification to change my password. The emails look completely legitimate, as if someone has my email and keeps slamming the system with it. I’d like to change my email to stop this, but of course it’s not that easy. This could just as easily happen with a different email.
I have no idea why someone would do that, since it doesn’t work…I’ve even added the security app to my phone as a precaution. What does anyone get out of repeatedly requesting a password change?
I need to know how to change my email address on here….I’m really irritated that I cannot just change it. I am trying to close that email address and the Submit a request is not helping me at all. I purchased GW2 with a credit card and I don’t have this code they keep asking me for….I did the digital download…..

On the ‘Submit a Request’ form you can leave any of the areas blank as indicated, but you must choose a selection from each Category drop-down menu, or you will get an error. The reason you must get assistance from CS for changing the email address associated with your account is to keep others from compromising your account so easily, and locking you out.
Good luck.
